<p><div>What a kind thing to say JulieJohn! Thank you. :)</div><div><br /></div><div>MG, I know! I mentioned in another post that I'm letting my hair stay longer so I can try updos in the summer heat, but I really miss my neck when I wear it down. Oh well. I only have 2 oxfords, the cognac pair doesn't work barefoot, and I thought the grey pair might be too dark (I feel like I get a lot of feedback on how my shoes are too dark, lol). But you're right that sturdier shoes are a nice way to unsweet an outfit!</div><div><br /></div><div>Shevia, I'm not surprised you like the hat, as you wear hats so beautifully yourself!</div><div><br /></div><div>MsKatieKat, thanks for such detailed feedback! It would be lovely if there were more super lightweight regular jackets out there for spring/summer.</div><div><br /></div><div>Gardenchick, how funny, I wouldn't have thought of these as earth tones! But I do look best in muted colours and leave the brights for others. Like you, I enjoy seeing different colours on other people.</div><div><br /></div><div>Thnx RachyLou!</div><div><br /></div><div>Thank you Deb. :)</div><div><br /></div><div>Jeanie, ugh, we are sadly long past boot weather here. I'm just glad I can still wear my closed toed shoes for a bit at least (I hate sandals). Sadly, I don't have many hot weather jackets: they're almost impossible to find in my experience, and then if I do come across one with potential, it doesn't have full length sleeves (which I prefer for sun protection). Very frustrating and if I ever manage to get good at sewing, I'll be addressing that gap first thing! I wear slouchy berets all the time in cooler weather: they're my favourite! For warmer weather I've got a few sunhats: I agree that this little fedora isn't the best shape for me, I look much better in my straw cloche &amp; a little grey cloth sunhat I have, but that would have just added to the sweetness. I feel like most of my hot weather looks are compromises between my preferences/what flatters me most and what works for this climate. Sigh.</div>

<p>You look lovely in watermelon! &nbsp;I love the tonal matching. &nbsp;I like the idea of the jacket but not this particular jacket. &nbsp;I bet you have another jacket or cardi in your closet that will add the needed frump. &nbsp;Boots would be good but I guess you are past boot weather down there. &nbsp;I can't remember seeing you in a hat before. &nbsp;Somehow I picture you in a more floppy hat. &nbsp;

<p>Like!<br />
Love the shade of the skirt, the top with it, and the belt and hat! These shades of color are all too "earth tone" for my coloring, but it's fun to see how you make them work. Everything fits very well, too.

<p>Oh my goodness, E you are just way too adorable in this outfit! I really like this tone on tone combination and I like the way you accessorized the look with the hairstyle, white belt and fedora! I'm not too crazy about the jacket or the belt over the jacket though, but mainly because of the proportions. If the jacket were about high hip length and more tailored, I think it will work. But overall, I just love that this outfit has just the right amount of sweetness and an unexpected edge with the fedora.

<p>Look how long you hair is getting!&nbsp; This is so pretty.&nbsp; I like it best without the hat or the jacket, actually.&nbsp; It says "spring" to me, not necessarily "sweet."&nbsp; But I think the quickest way to unsweeten something is to add some tough shoes.&nbsp; A pair of your oxfords would have been fab.

<p>I dig it by itself most, then with the hat. I want to like the jacket, it is fine, just not up to E standards as I see them. However if you feel good in it that's all that counts! You're right the color of the jacket is just fine on you, complements your honey-colored hair. You are such a breath of fresh air every time you post, thank you!</p>

<p><div>Thnx JackieC!</div><div><br /></div><div>Suz, perhaps I'm looking for a different word than sweet? Femme? I don't know. I don't have a problem with sweet per se, and clearly I've worn lots of outfits in the past that could be considered sweet, so maybe it was just my mood that day. Plus, I was going to a cafe after my errands, and I try to dress less conventionally feminine when I'm spending time at a cafe to lessen the chances of guys talking to me. I did try it with navy but that seemed to make the skirt brighter! Perhaps I was just in a fussy mood. I'll definitely try it with white, thnx for the suggestion! I wear a lot of white-ish shades this time of year.</div><div><br /></div><div>Awww, thank you TG!</div><div><br /></div><div>Neel, you make me laugh. Thnx for the input!</div><div><br /></div><div>Aida, perhaps it's just not possible to de-sweeten the outfit, hehe. I do want to come up with some less femme ways to wear this skirt though.</div><div><br /></div><div>Aubergine, I agree w you re: perferring the unbelted jacket! Perhaps it's the crumble? hehe</div><div><br /></div><div>Thanks Carter. As I said to Suz, perhaps it was just my mood that day?</div><div><br /></div><div>Alasse, I swear I'm not ashamed of sweet! I wear all kinds of sweet clothes. I think I should have searched for a different word…frothy? I don't know. I think I prefer a touch of the sensible, pastoral/rustic, to go with the sweetness and provide a contrasting note.</div><div><br /></div><div>Columbine, I think the jacket looks awkward belted too! I just thought I'd photo it that way in case people wanted to know how it looked belted. :)</div><div><br /></div><div>Thanks for weighing in Angie!</div><div><br /></div><div>DoubleH, I wonder if it looks different in a still photo vs real life, too, because the fabric fluttered as I moved. The limitations of photography I suppose! But thanks for the feedback &amp; the welcome back. :)</div>

<p>The pinks look so refreshing together! They totally put me in the mood for sorbet.</p>
<p>Of the options for adding to the outfit, I think I actually like the jacket unbelted best. For me, the belt around the waist and the fitted top under it&nbsp;gives it enough structure, and the color almost goes with the dessert theme. (Maybe it's light brown sugar or a pie crust or something?)

<p>I like the outfit with the hat, especially! It's fun. I'm not sure it "de-sweetens" but it does add that quirky element.&nbsp;</p>
<p>I'm not sure about the jacket. It's a bit formless unbelted, and a bit bulky looking belted. Also, I think the round collar gives it a sweetness of its own. I am thinking that the way to de-sweeten might be with the addition of a sour (or a dark neutral -- in your case, navy or charcoal?) or else maybe with some sharper lines? Or maybe it's just okay to <b>GO</b> with sweet. Nothing wrong with it on you at all.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Or instead of de-sweetening -- freshening up with a bit more white?? I think that would be a gorgeous look on you.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Slightly cooler temps mean I can wear my skirts (they all fit at the waist, so make me too hot once it's above, say, 85/29), and I reached for this linen/cotton one. It's an almost watermelon pink, at the very edge of how bright I can go before being washed out. I really like it, and it seems perfect for warm weather (although I see in these pics that the hem's falling down&nbsp;in one spot), but the colour makes it a bit challenging at times. I prefer wearing it with knits, whenever I add one of my frilly woven blouses, I suddenly feel too femme.</p>
<p>I love wearing shades of the same colour, so I couldn't resist adding a blush tee on top, and the off white belt seemed to go best. But then of course the whole look was terribly sweet, a bit like a bowl of sorbet! First I added my bee brooch, as insects are not a traditionally girly subject (and echoed the pewter with a hair slide). That was fine for at home wear, but when I went out to run errands, I wanted to cut the sweetness a bit more. I came up with two options and thought I'd show them both to the forum to get your opinions! (Apologies for the photo dump.)</p>
<p>The first option is a little straw fedora, fairly straightforward. Does it de-sweeten things?&nbsp;The second option is a deliciously lightweight, drapey jacket. I thrifted it last year because of the 70% linen/30% silk blend, the&nbsp;little round collar, and big pockets,&nbsp;despite the beige colour. I originally intended to dye it grey, but I was afraid dye would destroy the feel of the fabric, so I've been putting it off. And much to my surprise, the beige didn't look terrible (soul-sucking? hehe)&nbsp;with this outfit at least. I tried it over top the rest of the outfit, inspired by some Japanese styles that I've seen, and I actually quite liked it. I think the way it changes the proportions definitely cuts down on the sweetness, but does it look intentional? I also tried it with the belt over top, just to give you another option. (The jacket and hat together didn't work, probably due to the different beige shades.) If it helps you make up your mind,&nbsp;I'm not bothered by&nbsp;a bit of frumpiness in my look, as long as it seems intentional, and I prefer to look quaint, so a bit quirky and old-fashioned.</p>
<p>What are your thoughts? For my errands, I wore the jacket unbelted, and felt good, but for the future I'd love to have more input. My feelings aren't easily hurt, so feel free to be honest if you don't care for it!
</p>
<p>ETA: forgot to say, my hair looks a mess in later pics because the only spot I can stand for full outfit photos is right next to my vent! So if the a/c is on, it blows my hair around mercilessly.</p>
