I adore the interplay of colors, shapes, and textures. The diamonds in the jacket and in the center item of the necklace, the petals of the necklace flower echoed in the belt clasp, the circles of the ring and necklacen etc. Genius and so much fun! And I've only
looked on my phone. (Wish I worked with you. I'd be running into your office every morning, demanding "Let me see!")

Ladies you all are so wonderful! Thanks for the feedback!

@Ceit; I got the jacket from Winners, which is pretty much like the Canadian Marshall's. I'll need to check the brand again but it's a relatively unknown brand.

@BethAnn: I am busty too! This is why I look shorter waisted than I already am. I love the belting under jacket trick though. I believe I learned the trick from InsideOutStyle!

@Suz: I will need to check out Sona's outfits and see how she wears crossovers. I find the trick with crossovers is to have a Drapey waist-surrendering style. It's challenging to find one in hip length! And as for the jacket: it's the second day in a row that I wore it... Oops, repeats I love the jacket that much!

@Angie: thank you! Waistlines have definitely been tricky for me so I had to resort to some optical illusions to make it work I think sometimes, that's the best I can do given my body type limitations. I still prefer surrendering the waist though due to sheer comfort (and thanks to your blog for opening that idea up for me)!

I like the way you tackled your waist and skirt challenges. Well done. A maximally wonderful outfit. You are adorable.

A crossover blouse would be brilliant for you! Sona wears them really well. She has IT tendencies.

I love this outfit on you. Sorry it didn't feel good, but it looks great. That jacket is such a winner. It's no faux pas to wear it again!

You're branching out and looking fabulous doing it! The "faux peplum" looks great on you -- sorry it doesn't feel so good! The jacket is a wonderful bit of "pop," and the silhouette is really flattering.

I hear you on the tucking. I'm not short waisted, but I am a little busty, which can create the same effect. I like the idea of a crossover blouse!

Thanks ladies!

@Lantana re:blouson top: I have two now but they are a bit too long (all my tops are long). I probably should look for one that is hip length to balance my proportions out.

@Shevia: glad the post made you smile!

I think Penny (Lantana) has a great suggestion with the crossover top.

The skirt looks good to me.

I like the way you've styled the skirt but I hear you on the sensitive tum issue. So instead, how about a crossover blouson top? That would be gentle on your tummy and skip the short waist issue entirely.

My apologies, first of all, if the photos are not clear. The dressing room I ducked into did not have the best layout so I wasn't able to get a good photo. I did have a reason to go to the dressing room this time though: I tried on a magenta mini and two cowl neck sweaters. The sweaters were ok but the wrong bottom will fail to conceal my lovely muffin top, but the magenta mini was not available in my size.

... Wait a second... MINI? I thought you hated separates, Katie!

And there goes the theme of my WIW: skirts! Remember when I posted something about business casual and professional outfits for IT's?
http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....d-triangle

The lovely, Una suggested pencil skirt... Which brings me to my second point: remember that post I made about uniforms and capsules?
http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....d-uniforms

MaryK dazzled us with examples of how uniforms could be not-so-drab... So last night, after trying out my spoils from Reitmans, I whipped out the reptile pencil skirt I made 2 years ago and tried different outfits. This outfit was one of the results.

I tried tucking but I looked too short-waisted (I already am). The reptile skirt is too high-waisted for semi-tucking so I decided to belt the only way a short-thick-waisted IT like me could (over a top, under a jacket, faux peplum style) and that's what I've come up with. I had the belt off since I left work (my tummy is sensitive to restrictive garments) but I put it back on just for you :)

I'm still lukewarm about skirts, though. Untucking makes my look really sloppy (especially if most of my tops are long) but belting is uncomfortable. So I'm still deciding whether or not it's for me.

Oh and I did a faux-pas and wore my funky draped jacket again. It just felt good with the outfit.

Thanks, Una and MaryK for the inspiration!

PS: I finally got my Gap Ultra Skinnies using the 50% off coupon I received in the mail. I also touched a $1200 Dries Van Notten dress pant when I was getting my drapey jacket taken in... OMG I almost died in glee....
