@ Suz thanks for the link to experiment of yours with the jackets. I have added it to my favourites so I can go back and think over the options. I notice your body is in different proportions to mine. I have a short torso but long legs. I wonder if that makes a difference because I want to make my torso longer.

Thanks everyone. Its looks like number 1 with the jacket is yay. Actually number 2 is not actually a jacket but a cropped cardigan. It is probably too tight to wear like that. Usually I wear it open over dresses.

@Mo thanks for the link to the website. that is really informative. I have tried longer shirts with hip length jackets and wondered why they looked off to me. I think I will keep experimenting with this look.

I love this look and like to wear it, too. I've found it can be tricky, however, and what works for one body might not work for another. You might have to experiment a bit with length of tops, style of jacket, and styles of bottoms (eg boot cut, skinny, or skirt). And the level of contrast between your top and bottom (and jacket and shirt) also seems relevant.

I did a sort of experimental post about this here, trying to learn what works (and why) on my own shape. Maybe you'll find it interesting. http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....th-jackets

I definitely go for the cropped jacket/long top silhouette! You just have to be careful that the jacket ends at a flattering point on your body. Play around to see what lengths work best for you. For me, I like either a big difference in length (e.g., cropped at ribcage jacket, shirt to hips) or a small difference (an inch or so of the top peeping out).

#1 is perfectly fine - I do it all the time.
#2 does not work for me because the top is too tight: it highlights your "muffin top" which is not visible at all in #1. If you wear that vest open over a slightly looser top - just skimming your body, not clinging to it - that would work too IMO.

I think the #1 looks great. #2 seems like the jacket is a little too tight (bunchin gup) and falls at a not as flattering place on your torso.

It's hard to tell from the angle of your photos, but I really like the first look. There is great continuity in colour, from the jacket to the top to the jeans, and adding the scarf really elongates the whole look. Why not try the jacket in #2 with some different tops, and try it undone to see how that looks. It's a nice colour on you and worth playing around with some more.

I actually prefer a bit of shirt showing and a cropped jacket. The first one looks just right to me, but the second one looks a little off.....is that jacket even shorter or is the top super long? It's funny, I can't put a measurement on it, but there is an amount of shirt that looks right to me. I just eyeball it I guess! Maybe 6 inches or so? Anyway, I think this is a great way to wear your jackets with jeans/slacks!

I wear a lot of shorter jackets with longer tops peeking out below, and I like the look.

#1 looks good -- the jacket seems to be hiking up a little because you have your arm up but otherwise it works. In #2 the jacket looks quite short -- I don't think that one is working as well.

I think this works! I do it all the time.

1 looks adorable. In 2, maybe the top is a bit too long? I feel like there's something weird about the proportion of jacket to top showing there.

I have quite a few short jackets. I wear them with dresses but like to wear blazers with jeans. does the long top underneath the blazer to elongate the upper body look weird? Is it out of proportion ? suggestions on what to do with all my short jackets appreciated.
