I found out about him on Gertie's New Blog for Better Sewing and have spent quite a while drooling over the pictures on the Whirling Turban website. </p> <p>My shoulder drape is sewn in, simply because the tropical wool is quite heavy and my dressmaker didn't think it would sit right otherwise. I don't have any other straps, and that was actually annoying. I think I need to add a waist stay so that the bodice doesn't move around so much. </p> <p>Lyn67, my dress is actually two pieces. I thought maybe the skirt would look good with other tops, but now that it is actually made up, I am not so sure!</p> <p>I will attach some photos, but the front is a princess seamed bodice with a seam line under the bust to get the very close fit. There is a strip of material cut on the bias which swoops down and matches up with the ties at the top of the sarong skirt, giving the impression that it is all one piece of fabric. The back is completely shirred, not with elastic in the bobbin, but with channels and pieces of 'proper' elastic caught in the side seam. There is a side invisible zipper that unzips from the bottom but is held together at the top under the arm. It is pretty difficult to get into when you don't want to mess up your hair!!</p> <p>The skirt is a true wrap skirt, which does up with a button on one hip and another on the other hip. </p> <p>Thanks for the comment about my purse, too. I made it from the leftover scraps! Hehe. What I really love about it though is my fake flower that looks so real. I just really felt like I needed a flower with this dress and was chuffed when I found this in a furniture store.</p> <p>It's off to the dry cleaners now! I bought this material from Elliott Berman Textiles when they had an amazing 50% off sale last year. I hoarded it because I just loved the colour and drape so much and decided not to sew with it myself but to have a professional dressmaker make something for me. I couldn't bear the thought of ruining the fabric, which is always a risk when you are a fairly novice dressmaker, like myself! My dressmaker did a stellar job of making it into a dress, and was the one who suggested I wear the shoulder drape as a wrap. She made it extra long, especially for that purpose. It was such a comfortable fabric to wear, so perfect for our mild winter weather. </p> <p>Still, before I wore it, I was a bit worried that I would look over the top...</p> <p>Nevertheless, on the day I wore it, I received a couple of lovely compliments, from being told I looked like I was from the cast of Mad Men to being thanked for looking gorgeous!
