The canalisation system is impressive! </p> <p>In this Dritteman tour I learned, for example, that Vienna was the first city to have a working sewer (one covering all the disposable water from all areas of the city) - as early as the 17th century; the mouse/rat ratio per inhabitant here is 1.5 to 1 (Paris has 6 rats for each inhabitant, NY has 8 rats for each inhabitant and LA as much as 10 to 1... according to my guide) and the overflow chambers and channels are 20 meters wide! </p> <p>What is also astonishing is that a didn't get a single spot on my clothes! I guess I can advertise for their cleaniness (according to the guide there are 200 workers cleaning the channels daily and they take up to I-don't-remember-how-many tons of solid material sticking to the walls...); I must say I was very careful, walked slowly and always on the very middle of the lanes to avoid coming near the channel walls.</p> <p>Plus I did change my shoes last minute for a brown pair of flats!
