<p>Thank you Alasse! I do love the cold. Between knitted accessories and my heavy vintage coat and sturdy boots, I think winter could easily become my favourite season.

<p>I'm glad to see you posting again since that means you're feeling well. Your sweater is a splendid colour on you, and looks store-bought; very nice! The vintage coat with its full skirt is lovely, too. Now you know you'll do well in the cold!

<p>Thnx Deb!<div><br /></div><div>Thank you Astrid. And yay for cosiness! :)</div><div><br /></div><div>Thnx Windchime! She doesn’t seem to mind the snow on the neighbourhood walks, but going to the park/woods where it’s deeper definitely annoyed her. Of course, it was her first experience with it ever, so perhaps she’ll learn to like it in time. *crosses fingers* How funny you had an anti-snow husky!</div><div><br /></div><div>Carter, I should have been clearer! Whoops. I very lightly felted the sweater in the washing machine &amp; then just cut a couple holes for legs; over a year later no fraying in sight. So you’d probably be able to just cut a leash hole. And the shape of a sleeve is great for a dog sweater; half of it is longer than the other half!</div><div><br /></div><div>Sorry about the mixup Thistle! The center of the country seems to be in a definite cold grip. At least you have a new baby to snuggle up with. ;)</div><div><br /></div><div>Diana, puffer-free Northerners unite! I did a lot of reading/researching prior to casting on the sweater, which I think helped me out. I did make a couple little errors (the bottom buttonhole isn’t lined up with the rest &amp; as a I knit the band while I went I can’t easily fix that) but luckily they don’t really show.</div><div><br /></div><div>Thank you Aquamarine; there’s nothing better than curling up with a cup of tea in my world. :)</div><div><br /></div><div>Thnx RachyLou! My knitting’s getting better, which is always exciting. I think you’re right that the wool leggings are too dark for the outfit; I had imagined they’d be balanced by the darker red of the cardigan, but that’s definitely not the case in the photos. Luckily the public only saw my coat &amp; boots! I’m not sure if Thistle will approve of booties or not, which is why I’m hesitant to plunk down $$ in case she declines to walk in them. Luckily she’s fine with sidewalk adventures, even w the cold &amp; snow, so no puppy pads are needed. But I don’t want to give up my woods for the next few months, so I need to find a solution!</div><div><br /></div><div>Thank you KL; I agree w you both re: the leggings colour!</div><div><br /></div><div>Thnx AG, I’m pretty thrilled with how it turned out. Yarn isn’t cheap, and of course it took ages to knit because I used small needles &amp; a thinner yarn, so I was terrified I’d finish it &amp; never want to wear it. Instead it’s made me want to knit more sweaters! Yay!</div><div><br /></div><div>Hi Jeanie! I cheated on the fit by using lots of ribbing. There’s a whole panel of ribbing up the back too; you can see it on my <a rel="nofollow" href="http://www.ravelry.com/projects/thecharmofit/raglan-sweater---adult-cardigan">ravelry project&nbsp;page&nbsp;</a></div><div>if you have an account. And if you knit it in one piece, like I did this, you can try it on as you go (I opted for bottom up but you can do top down too &amp; try on), which lets you catch problems before they get too advanced. I suppose I’d call it a very muted heathered maroon/burgundy? Or a cool brick red? I’m bad at names. I know for my colouring colours described as ‘muted’ and ‘heathered’ are often magic. I can wear a more saturated/clear burgundy too though and even a cranberry, as long as it’s not super bright. And I try to stay to the cooler side of things, although this red isn’t a blue-red. I hope that helps!</div><div><br /></div><div>Thank you Beth Ann! I think I’m going to need it too, which thrills me to no end. ;)</div><div><br /></div><div>Thnx Jackie!</div><div><br /></div><div>Joy, I hope eventually Thistle converts to Maggie’s snow loving camp! But for now she’s not a fan of how it clumps between the pads of her paws.</div><div><br /></div><div>Aww thank you Unfrumped &amp; Tulle! :D</div><div><br /></div><div>Thnx Gigi!</div><div><br /></div><div>Firecracker, I waited until I had a year of knitting under my belt &amp; lots of reading/researching before starting a sweater. So I think that helped! I love changeable clothes too; that’s a great adjective I hadn’t thought to use in a sartorial context before!</div><div><br /></div><div>Thank you Suz &amp; you made me laugh! I’ve only recently realised that some shades of oatmeal/beige are just very light taupes, so I can wear them. Feels quite exciting to have a new colour family open to me!</div><div><br /></div><div>Thank you Aubergine; I’m glad it looks good/professional to others’ eyes! I love how the turtleneck of Thistle’s sweater sort of makes her into a bobble head. LOL</div><div><br /></div><div>Thnx Janet! I’m enjoying the new climate to death, so hopefully Thistle will learn to love it too. ;)</div><div><br /></div><div>Thank you Texstyle! Can you believe I got the coat for $20 inc shipping from Ebay?! Craziness. It’s worth so much more than that.</div><div><br /></div><div>Thnx Karie!</div>

<p>Wow. #1, you have a really neat and tidy knitting hand. </p>
<p>#2, the gold silk is very flattering to you. I'm not sure if the dark leggings flatter the dress, but then again I can't say I'd prefer to see lighter leggings either.</p>
<p>#3, I think pic 5 is perfect fairy tale.</p>
<p>#4, whoa! Snow!</p>

<p>Wow, I am super impressed that that is your first sweater ever! My first one was a disaster! </p>
<p>Love this outfit, especially the coat. I too am a proponent of the puffer-less winter wardrobe. Layers of wool are just as warm!

<p>It took me a while to realize which Thistle you meant. :)</p>
<p>It is bitter cold here. We haven't been above freezing for some time! You look lovely and ready for the cold, as does your Thistle. I especially lve the hand knit cardi. Such a rich color!

<p>I was so totally confused about your walk with Thistle! Two different states and a new baby (for our YLF Thistle), and I just wasn't catching on! Now I get it! You and Thistle both look fantastic. Love, love, love the sweater you knit. Great design. Great color. Also love Thistle's sweater that you made from an old men's sweater. I defintiely need to try that. I've been having such a hard time finding a dog sweater with the leash hole in the right place for a harness.

<p>I like your spunky attitude--OF COURSE you pulled on your sleeveless silk dress on the coldest day so far this year! And what a beautiful silk dress it is, and how amazing does your new sweater look over it?! This is a good tutorial for how to wear dresses and skirts in winter. </p>
<p>Poor Thistle looks less than cheerful about the snow. We used to have a female Husky who felt the same way.

<p>We had our first cold day today; when Thistle and I headed out for our morning walk it was 17F/-8C. Nowhere near the cold snap that the middle of country is receiving, but definitely the chilliest weather I've seen in a few years. So obviously I started dressing with a sleeveless silk dress. Over it went my newly finished hand knit cardigan Have I shown it to the forum yet? I photographed an earlier outfit with it but I'm not sure if I've posted it. In case I haven't, it's my very first completed adult sweater, and I basically designed it (mathematically at least)&nbsp;myself by mashing up ideas/structure from&nbsp;a couple different patterns &amp; stitch dictionaries&nbsp;along with the measurements of some of my favourite knitwear, and I'm thrilled with how it came out! The yarn is from a US ranch-owned small business who spin their yarn in an old-fashioned way, hence the rustic look of it. It's a heathered burgundy colour &amp; I love how it changes depending on the lighting.</p>
<p>Um, sorry about the gushing.&nbsp;Back to the outfit! So under the dress went silk long johns, then wool leggings (not hand knit; acquired from LikeTwice) with thick hiking socks for my feet, as they've been extra&nbsp;fussy lately and like the extra support. This was more than cosy enough for hanging about in my apartment! I liked how the textured woolens downplayed the silk too, making it look more country. For fun I added my little fox brooch and gold rings.</p>
<p>For outdoors, I pulled out the big guns: lace up sturdy boots (there was snow on the ground) and one of the mid-calf fit &amp; flare vintage wool coats I got on ebay last February. It has a detachable hood, and I thought it'd be interesting to try wearing the hood instead of my usual knit hat to compare/contrast. I opted for my mitts that have fingers but not tips so that I'd keep most of my hands warm but still have the dexterity for taking photos and picking up after a certain puppy.&nbsp;Honestly, I was completely warm and cosy walking about in this, except for my nose &amp; cheeks, which eventually adjusted. It was very close to overkill in fact!&nbsp;I'm pretty sure I could wear in significantly colder temps without any discomfort, especially if I added hat/scarf/mittens, which is pretty exciting since I'd hoped the style of this coat would make it a puffer replacement for me. Since everyone in public only saw me in my outerwear, the little fox wanted to come play on my coat collar, and who was I to deny it? ;)</p>
<p>All feedback welcome as always! Sorry I've been scarce about the forum recently; health &amp; a sudden need to knit things like mittens &amp; gloves has meant I've been limiting my typing.
</p>
<p>ETA: when it's cold enough for me to be in a heavy wool coat, I put Thistle in her cashmere sweater (made from the sleeve of a thrifted men's xl sweater). Here's a bonus photo of her modelling it that I took during our evening walk! She's not terribly impressed with snow &amp; might be acquiring some booties soon.</p>
