I love that movie. I really wanted to be ready for anything. I used a very small, lightweight backpack from REI in which I kept my wallet, phone, glasses, binoculars, and small camera. Sometimes I wore that and had my binoculars and camera crisscrossed over me. That's the main reason I looked sort of rumpled most of the time. Road trips can be fun. We took one a few years ago and went to the Tetons, Yellowstone, and Glacier NP. Then we took another after our son's graduation from college in western Massachusetts to Memphis, where he was going to start grad school. He dressed a lot like I did - nylon hiking pants, hiking shoes, etc. </p> <p>Your AAA experience reminded me of a time when I needed AAA to give me a jump for my car battery. We lived in a condo at Lake Tahoe, and I told them the name of the condos, and when the guy came he yelled at me and threatened to strand me because I didn't give the street address. He really scared me. My father worked for AAA and he told me I should have turned the guy in for unprofessional behavior. The guy could have lost his contract with AAA. Last year I visited my 50th state, North Dakota, and so when we were in Vermillion SD, we crossed down into Nebraska and then Iowa for my husband. Talk about being prepared: I had a nanopuff vest and jacket, 60/40 coat, fleece shirt and the hoodie. I wore the hoodie every day early in the week until it warmed up. We left my old car with our son, who has been living in St Paul for a year without a car. We had a wonderful time, seeing parts of the country that are kind of out of the way. Well, unless you live there. If you do, consider yourself lucky! The week got gradually warmer.<br /> What I wore:<br /> 1. Jeans and tee, hiking shoes<br /> 2-3. Memorial Day - nylon hiking pants, graphic tee, hiking shoes<br /> 4-5. Layered up in the early morning (40F), and then later in the day - nylon hiking pants, graphic tee, hiking shoes, grey hoodie, Patagonia nanopuff vest, Tilley hat<br /> 6. Nylon hiking pants, graphic tee and hiking shoes<br /> 7. Striped shirt, jeans and hiking shoes for dinner.<br /> 8-9. Grey print shorts, white boatneck sleeveless tee, chambray shirt for AC, white sneakers.<br /> 10. Denim crops, striped tee, white sneakers<br /> 11. Grey shorts, white sleeveless embroidered top, white sneakers<br /> Bonus Pics:<br /> Devil's Tower, Bison in Custer State Park, SD, truck parked next to us,<br /> Mt Rushmore, bighorn sheep in Badlands NP, uh oh - several hour delay - we needed to buy new tires, view from our hotel in St Paul.<br /> Verdict:<br /> I took too much for cold weather. I packed for the forecast, but as we travelled, the forecast got warmer and warmer. I could have used some sandals. I only brought hiking shoes and Stan Smith sneakers. Our trip was terrific. Everything was great, but I was really wowed by Custer State Park in SD. It's fabulous! </p>
