Oh what fun! I'd wear this in a heart beat. :)

I've wondered about whether a petticoat would look costume-y or not too. I bet it'd be fun to wear regardless.

Hmm, Janet, by light tights do you mean nude? Other than nude I don't own any light colored hosiery, nor do I like it on me. I think it's a little cold for sheer nude hose though and I haven't managed to find a suitable replacement for my dead nude opaques (it's really hard to find non-Caucasian "nude!")

I think it's a lovely outfit. I agree with Janet re-boots and tights though, that's a good idea. I think your skirt would look great with a poofy petticoat. I bet you could whip one up with a bit of dress net and some elastic.

I really like this a lot. I do see the issue with the different greys (boots and top) but to my eye it works because of the cream detail in the top. I think it's a great rescue of a dress. I don't know how I'd feel about it with a petticoat underneath, but I guess it wouldn't hurt to try. I find the length just fine as is.

I love the way the weight of the skirt makes it fall straight - the slight pleating it creates is very appealing to my eye, it looks rich. I too have found out, after looking at my photos, that sometimes I'm mixing warm and cool grays or cool grays with other warm colors... so helpful to see it in photos and avoid it in the future.

The skirt looks good to me as is. I also enjoy the pairing of the boots with the sweatshirt. The colors look fine on my monitor and I like how the tougher style of the boots complements the lace. Also envious of your ability to wear high contrast footwear with a skirt without any sign of stumpification.

I think the dress/sweatshirt pairing is great! I actually kind of want to see the colors of the tights and boots reversed, if you know what I mean -- a lighter color of tights and darker boots. I see what AM is talking about.

AM, you are right about the boots. They are like a dirty taupe, definitely warmer in tone than the rest of the outfit. I agree a light grey would probably be better. They are the only light colored boots I have though. I did try some black boots but it made the bottom half of my outfit way too dark.

With the petticoat I was thinking something like these allsaints skirts from a couple of years ago that had built in petticoats.

I can tell that that skirt is beautiful. I posted awhile back about a similar winter skirt that I've had forever. I love the skirt and sweater paired together. I don't think the skirt is too long at all. I'm having a hard time visualizing a petticoat underneath so I'll leave that to others.
I'm not as crazy about the boots...but it may just be the lighting in the picture. The boots look a little "dirty" in color compared to the light shade in the sweater. But again, that is being really picky and may just be a photography trick. Overall you are rocking that skirt and should definitely keep it in rotation!

This "skirt" is actually a dress that is somewhat orphaned but that has survived several purges because it is well-made and quite flattering. It's also useful for certain types of conservative, dressy winter events. It feels rather too conservative and classic for me for everyday though, and I also find it really difficult to style as a dress (plus the top part is slightly too big so it always requires a topper). I do really like the pattern, which is a grey tweedy herringbone. Today I decided to try to make it more me by wearing it as a skirt and pairing it with more casual, funky elements like my lace-front sweatshirt and slouchy midcalf boots.

What do you think of the length/fullness of the skirt? I have to admit that I generally prefer my winter skirts (worn with tights and boots) to be on the short side because of legline lengthening issues. I am not fond of the tall boots/long skirt/no visible leg look so with this length I am limited to midcalf and booties, which is potentially stumpifying. So I feel like maybe this skirt (it covers my knees) is a little too long. It's also very full but heavy so it hangs rather than poufs. I am toying with the idea of getting a petticoat-style slip that would puff out this skirt (and others that I own) a little more, but would that be too over-the-top and costumey?

Calvin Klein dress, Hinge sweatshirt, Remonte Dorndorf boots, random black tights.
