<p>An Eva post! Yay!&nbsp;.) That close-up of the bow is pure gorgeousness.&nbsp;I can see how the pale blue jacket reminds you of Austen outfit. The dress's colors are great on you (you look very pretty, by the by) and the oxfords with scrunched socks are indeed period. You always make me wish I dressed more period (well, I did, but that will keep till the Mon. WIW post.)

<p><div>Thank you Diane! There's nothing like cotton for the heat, and this is a lovely almost satin-like cotton.</div><div><br /></div><div>Aubergine, it's so funny people had imagined my name! I should've had a guessing contest first. I just think of everyone as their username, although I'm sure you're not actually named after a vegetable in your offline life. lol</div><div><br /></div><div>LeopardLuxe, those oxfords sound lovely! I'm on quite a small budget, but perhaps I'll get lucky and find a similar pair secondhand when I'm shipping again.</div><div><br /></div><div>Claire, yes to the pacing! I agree that a different sock would have helped lighten things: I first tried it with my light taupe socks but they're hand knit &amp; too thick for the shoes. Of course, in hindsight I should've just used my taupe ankle boots, which probably wouldn't have been any warmer in the heat, but ankle boots in warmer temps didn't occur to me!</div><div><br /></div><div>I don't have any chafeing issues, so I bet I'm walking at a slower pace than you, but for me regular clothes definitely work just as well as gear. Pencil skirts would be a challenge, because they'd limit my stride, but luckily I prefer how full skirts look anyway. I can see how sourcing gear would be a challenge to anyone on a budget! My Aurora Shoe Co shoes are insanely comfortable for walking &amp; leather but they've got a bit of a hippy/hobbit vibe going on that doesn't seem like it would past muster for you. My other favourite walking shoes are Timberland, whose ethics seem quite good, and I think they have a variety of styles, not just the rustic ones I gravitate towards. Might be worth looking into!</div><div><br /></div><div>And thanks so much for the compliments: I love how you approach style &amp; clothing, so it means a lot.</div><div><br /></div><div>Thank you Neel &amp; Emily!</div>

<p>Hi Eva! That is such a pretty, breezy looking dress. Perfect for the heat, and because the fabric is&nbsp;woven, the humidity as well. I hear you on not breaking out your high-summer clothes until absolutely necessary. When the summers are as long and hot as ours are, we must pace ourselves! I love the floral pattern for you, and the shoes do bookend your hair nicely. I think (since you're not shopping right now) a lighter color&nbsp;or low cut sock might be enough to lighten up the bottom.</p>
<p>I walk everyday also, and my gear is wearing out. I've been toying with the idea of not buying any more of it, but just finding "real" clothes that don't chafe, as well as some leather walking shoes that can also be worn with jeans. It's not like I'm running a marathon or working up a huge sweat after all. Thanks for inspiring me to think this way! Gear is expensive, worn by too many people for too much of the time (around here anyway)&nbsp;and I'd rather not spend a large chunk of&nbsp;my clothing budget on it. Plus it's nearly impossible to thrift, because the pieces are so worn out by the time they get donated.&nbsp;</p>
<p>I'm glad to see you're back Eva. I'm always so impressed with how well you know yourself and are able to seek out clothing that flatters you while stile meeting your ethical and budgetary standards.

<p>Welcome back, Eva. That dress is such a lovely storybook looking dress! It looks fantastic on you and I rather like it paired with the oxfords and scrunched socks. I think it would look equally adorable paired with a paler oxford of some kind&nbsp;(I just picked up some Born Ashleigh oxfords in tricolor white, cream and taupe/gray and when I saw this dress on you I thought how lovely those would look with it&nbsp;as well.

<p>
<div>Aida, lighter coloured footwear will definitely go on my list to look out for. I think I prefer oxfords to other flats nowadays, so I'll have to see what turns up! Sadly in my climate even as a sandal hater I end up having to wear them for most of summer, as once it's over 90/95, my feet need to breathe.</div><div><br /></div><div>Diana, twirly dresses are the best aren't they? :)</div><div><br /></div><div>Thank you TG!</div><div><br /></div><div>Thnx Shevia! I'm thinking about incorporating the word storybook into my style descriptor, as I really love it.</div><div><br /></div><div>Gigi, I'm glad everyone likes the colours on me: I wasn't 100% sure of the background colour of the dress so it's very reassuring!</div><div><br /></div><div>Jeanie, that blouse sounds delicious! Definitely perfect for me. Thanks for the welcome back.</div><div><br /></div><div>Joy, what a kind thing to say!</div><div><br /></div><div>Suz, luckily it's still a bit cooler in the mornings so I can open my windows then and keep the inside feeling nicer. Wait until the true heat arrives, it'll be shorts every day. Sigh.</div><div><br /></div><div>Thnx Caro!</div><div><br /></div><div>Thank you Kiwichik!</div><div><br /></div><div>Oh that's a lovely song Astrid &amp; I can imagine it slower as even more beautiful.
<p>Thanks, I like my name. Btw I've always liked E - every time you posted I thought of the Proksch composition "Warten auf E" (Waiting for E) that my sister learned to play by heart last year. It's beautiful and I always ask her to play it when I'm home. Here's the best version I could find online, although my sister plays it a bit slower and I prefer it that way:<br />

<p>What a lovely dress! Nothing beats a nice twirly dress for summer. </p>
<p>It's great to see you back, and glad to hear you had a good break.

<p>Very pretty, E(va) Those soft pastels love you back. Like LACeleste I'd like to see lighter footwear though, like dove gray oxfords to match the blazer or cream perforated smoking slippers. I don't like wearing open-toed footwear much either, so I have to make sure I have light colored lower-contrast closed-toe shoes for light colored summer outfits.

<p><div>RachyLou, good luck in the heat! :)</div><div><br /></div><div>Thank you AG!</div><div><br /></div><div>Vildy, I love the way you write, with slightly unexpected words that have such a wonderful cadence (the purely in this case).</div><div><br /></div><div>Thnx Dee. :)</div><div><br /></div><div>Astrid, I just looked it up to make sure I was 'hearing' your name right in my head. hehe I was, and it's a beautiful name!</div><div><br /></div><div>Thank you Alicat! I spent a few years trying to make bright colours work for me, but now that I've ensconced in soft ones, everything's much easier.</div><div><br /></div><div>Thnx K! Claire's a wonderful name too.</div><div><br /></div><div>Thank you Shedev!</div><div><br /></div><div>MG, the sewing has not even begun yet. *blushes* My sewing machine isn't working quite right &amp; I've taken on a couple deadline-sensitive knitting projects for gifts that have kept me busy. But I was just talking to my sister the other day &amp; she's going to come help me set it up (she was quite a sewist in high school although now she's too busy). It is a 5 panel bodice (and why doesn't everything have princess seams?! they're so wonderful) attached at the waist, but the skirt is more complicated: it's just little pleats at 4 points around that are sewed down from the waist and open at the high hip I think. Thnx for the hair feedback: I love my bob but it's so hot here in the summer that I'm probably keeping the extra length for now so I can put it up. Before I got my latest pixie, my strategy was basically to get a jaw length blunt bob once a year, let it grow out, and then bob it again with the weather changes.</div><div><br /></div><div>Gryffin, I almost added a straw hat, but I wanted to put my hair up instead! I'm glad you approve of the shoes &amp; socks; I like the idea but I'm not sure the colours were quite there? Anyway, I'm all about the sturdy &amp; practical!</div><div><br /></div><div>Thnx for looking that up MG! When I get the machine set up &amp; have done a skirt, I'll definitely be looking into dresses as a next step, as they're a fitting challenge in rtw for me. Although I also really want a long sleeved peter pan collar blouse out of the lightweight lawn I got for Christmas. I have almost no summer weight long sleeve tops, which are so nice for keeping the sun off, so that might come first. Anyway, I love a couple of those patterns!</div>

<p>Here are a few similar patterns.&nbsp; I went with Simplicity b/c they're, well simple, but most pattern brands will have something similar.</p>
<p>sleeve options:&nbsp; <a href="http://www.simplicity.com/p-9565-misses-and-plus-size-amazing-fit-dress.aspx" rel="nofollow">http://www.simplicity.com/p-95.....dress.aspx</a></p>
<p>with pockets: <a href="http://www.simplicity.com/p-6062-misses-miss-petite-amzing-fit-dresses.aspx" rel="nofollow">http://www.simplicity.com/p-60.....esses.aspx</a></p>
<p>same thing but slight empire waist: <a href="http://www.simplicity.com/p-5818-misses-plus-size-amazing-fit-dresses.aspx" rel="nofollow">http://www.simplicity.com/p-58.....esses.aspx</a></p>
<p>this one is a straight up princess seam so you don't have to piece the top to the skirt, and so less bulk around the waist:&nbsp; <a href="http://www.simplicity.com/p-1824-misses-plus-size-dresses.aspx#t-0" rel="nofollow">http://www.simplicity.com/p-18.....s.aspx#t-0</a></p>

<p>Eva - so glad you are back!! I missed your posts and your beautiful outfits!! Lovely and charming dress. It's made for twirling!! I like it with the oxfords and scrunched socks, I think playing against type is not just practical but goes with the period feel. A perfect dress for a morning walk and the jacket is brilliant with it. Although a small bunch of violets and straw hat would not be amiss!!

<p>How pretty!&nbsp; How is the sewing coming?&nbsp; I ask because, from what I can see, that is not a difficult dress to make - looks like a 6 gore skirt attached to a 5 panel bodice, yes?&nbsp; I love the sturdy oxfords with it too, sandals might be too ... precious?</p>
<p>Oh, and I just love your hair up.&nbsp; I think it adds to your whole 19th century vibe much more so than the little bob (which is also darling).
