Suz, we definitely had big cats! But not domesticated house cats. I'm not sure what they did about the rodent issue...considering Mexico City was one of the biggest cities in the world pre-Spanish invasion there were also big groups of people. But I'm not sure I've read anything that specifically addresses rodents in the Americas! Now I'm very curious though. If you haven't read it, 1491 is a very interesting book, not without its problems, but well worth a reader's time anyway.

Deborah, that necklace is gorgeous. I only have one long necklace, but I'd like to get another one in silver! And MG, thnx for all of the suggestions for future party outfits. Unfrumped, tights definitely help hemline issues. It's funny that I wear all of my shorts mid-thigh but feel strange in skirts and dresses that hit much above my knee.

Thanks to everyone else for weighing in! Esp the bow lovers, heehee! Adelpha I'm now so tempted to try tying a big scarf around my head. Sorry that I ended up posting and running: my sister's bachelorette party was last night and ended up running from late afternoon to 3 in the morning. lol I just got back from the hotel, so it's time for cuddling with my pup and catching up w YLF, which is such a great 'down time' place.

The shorts and tights look is adorable on you!! So cute.

And I love your "pilgrim" dress with the big bow. What a creative and pretty outfit on you.

I didn't realize that about cats. Did we not have mountain cats here? Cougars? But I guess those are not domestic animals (uh, to say the least...)

I wonder how indigenous populations managed the rodents. Hmmm. Interesting. Because they were growing and harvesting grains (corn, at least) so there would have been some...

E, I love the tights with the shorts, they look cozy and casual, totally holiday wear in my book.

I also love the whimsy of tying a bow on yourself, but must confess I don't fancy the sash so much. I want it to be crushed velvet! And not so pale a color, something bright or rich! Pssst, feel free to ignore my nonsense

Great outfits. When I was your age I used to wear square silk scarves, fairly big ones, tied around my head with a bow. I felt great in my bows!

Love your cooking outfit! One of my favorite looks is wool shorts with tights (and I'm waaaaay too old to wear them myself) so I'm just smiling as I look at those pics! Also, the navy dress is lovely - and I can see why you love wearing the gray booties - very cool! And, a pink bow? Well, that is perfectly YOU. Just lovely!

Two wonderful outfits. Love your cooking outfit! I love the look of shorts and tights:). Your navy dress is beautiful and it's flatters you. I "get" the bow and I think it's fun. Not being that "whimsical" myself I think would have opted for a long pendant with a touch of whimsy...but that's me, and I think you look gorgeous. There is a girl local to me who makes the most lovely Jewellery, much of which has that lovely sense of whimsy. I could see something like #1 working with your dress as another option.

Very cute! I love the shorts/stripes/cat brooch combination - it's practical, whimsical, and cute all in one. The dress outfit is very pretty, and I don't think I'd find it particularly severe, though I like the bow addition. There's a certain whimsy to the bow - like when your cat humors you and wears one for pictures. You have a real knack for mixing colors beautifully.

Your shorts and tights are adorable and the blue dress is lovely. I don't find it severe at all, but I can see how you might. If you are looking for alternatives to the big bow around your neck, you might consider A) a scarf in your hair, long ends over one shoulder, or B) the sash around your waist, C) a festive shrug or cardi, D) a long necklace, E) a trio of pins at one shoulder (or one large one).

Just between you and me and all of YLF, I might have worn yoga pants. It was just the husband and me, and hey, they were nice yoga pants.

Super cute! Love the wool shorts and stripes. I get you on the dress. But it works perfectly for family and with tights the shorter lengths are less of an issue.

As you might imagine, these are my Thanksgiving day outfits! My sister hosts the dinner, but as I'm the only vegetarian in the family, as well as the only one with lactose sensitivities, I essentially cook my own meal and bring it over. So for the cooking in the morning & early afternoon, I put on a comfy casual outfit that was based on these russet/rust/nutmeg/burnt orange/whatever this colour is called tights. These are the brightest of my coloured tights and thus the least worn; usually if I wear them they only peek out between my knee length skirt and tall boots. But I enjoy holiday dressing, so I couldn't resist the pumpkin pie reference (the best part of Thanksgiving imo)! I love this colour best with greys, but I needed to make sure I wouldn't overheat in the kitchen, so I chose my wool shorts and a cotton striped tee (easy to throw in the wash if I stain something, although my apron usually prevents that). I don't have a Thanksgiving themed brooch, so I opted for my cat, as cats didn't exist in North America before the Europeans brought them here. And since my kitchen has hardwood floors, it was slippers all the way.

For the actual dinner, I changed into something dressier: a tropical wool dark navy dress that I think of as my Pilgrim dress. It's another placeholder dress; the navy is a bit darker than ideal for me, and the hem a bit shorter, but I love its relaxed but flattering shape: it has princess seams instead of a defined waistband and has a few inches of ease compared to my body, so perfect for letting me stuff myself. I paired it with my cranberry tights, to lighten up the blue, navy blue socks, and my new grey boots that I love and can't wait enough. It still felt a bit more severe than what I was going for though, so I pulled out my other silk sash, a pink one, and tied it in a giant bow. Because nothing says playful and festive like presenting oneself as a gift box, right? I know the giant bow look is not for everyone (my mother usually loves my style but can't get behind the bows, lol), so it won't hurt my feelings if you think the outfit would be better without it!

No outwear pics, as between cooking and Thanksgiving itself, I didn't get to go on a walk. As always, comments and suggestions are welcome! (Sorry the pics are out of order; the uploader didn't like the profile pics for some reason so I had to rename them and tack them on at the end.)
