Great blazer, love the ove the colors here with your longer silver hair, so fab! I think the blazer works well - but agree-- blazers with longer lapels (1 button only) and that have a crisp angle at the hem look always sharper and more slimming on me- over the years I learned to pay attention to this thing myself, too.
But of course I have the curved hem blazer's too-- and generaly wear them more casual or preffer them made of a softer, more drapey fabric and perhaps cut shorter-get a good use of them for skirts and dresses. Other than that I find proportions OK-you don't have to worry-but I laso have a long torso and know what you speak about.

This is a wow! The colours are beautiful, subtle and still deep. I think their soft tones eliminate the ‘bisection’ problem. Quite perfect!

I did notice the rounded corners at the bottom; I think they echo the curves of your silver curls nicely. I also like the way this blazer curves around you when seated, giving you a professional yet soft appearance. The strong line of your broad shoulders lets you handle all these gentle curves well; some of us worry we look soft and lumpy when things we wear are too soft.

Sal, one thing about this blazer that may be throwing my eye is that the inner line is curved towards the bottom. It seems a small thing, and maybe no one else would notice, but to my eye, my blazers that have a crisp angle at that point look slightly better on my frame. This is an old blazer. When I buy anything new, I pay attention to that detail. I agree that sometimes I cannot identify what it is that makes an item coordinate better with certain pieces vs. others.

Suz, Gamines definitely pull off short jackets, and all sorts of fun details that look odd on someone with my build. I probably have two different length blazers, regular and long. There is variety but most are fairly conservative. I am not sure I have multiple ways to style them, but I am happiest with my sleek lines.

Donnat, Shevia, JAileen, thanks for your complementary observations!

I really love this palette on you and think the proportions work. As others have said, the phone angle does impact the way we see it, and footwear also plays a role. A pointy toe would make it feel more sleek. Even a pointy toed flat.

I'm also a fan of shorter jackets (for myself) but that works for a gamine type. And I like regular length and longer jackets also -- I just have to work a bit harder to style them! I have blazers at all lengths and enjoy the variety, but I will prefer different bottoms and footwear with the various styles, much as Sal says.

Unfrumped, I appreciate your comment about proportions and backside issues. It’s something I check when I make a purchase, but then do not pay enough additional attention when I am creating outfits.... I also relate well to the ideal of curating wardrobe items that mix and match and work well across multiple seasons. One off items take too much space and are not used enough for the downsized, more environmentally sustainable life I anticipate in the next couple years.

Jonesy, Yes, the cell phone distorts proportions. Your comment made me realize that the mirror in the seated pic is angled away at the top, which also causes distorted proportions! Some day I should make an effort to improve my photography methods!

Liz, I am working from home, so sneakers are comfortable and safe on my hardwood stairs. Historically, I have preferred shoes or booties with a heel (low heel). My back and shoulders feel better with my Sneakers so I will probably continue to wear them indefinitely. Sometimes pointy toes on flat shoes look better to my eye than sneakers.

Sloper, I have several longer length blazers which I have previously posted. Two of them are less fitted than this blazer but they are still sleek. I have one oversized blazer that is not sleek, and I do not wear it despite loving the color and material. I recently put it in my hold bin and am considering whether I should pass it forward to someone else. I will look at Net-A-Porter first, and maybe I will do a blazer outfit lab.

Ophelia, I think I have a lighter color skirt that might help me see if a change in contrast level would help.

Irina, yes, I like the blazer with my cropped jeans. Cuffs create another horizontal cut so I do not like them for my style.

Angie, thanks so much for your complementary words and suggestions. I love the look of short and cropped jackets on everyone else, and can understand why they would work well with wider leg trousers and with a-line dresses. I hope you share a picture of yourself wearing the Red Hobbs jacket and colorful Boden dress! The colors are so vibrant and happy! I also appreciate your support of my ongoing penchant for long sleek lines. They have become a key element of my signature style!

Slim cat...I like “classic with a twist”! Thanks!

Smittie, thanks, I am adjusting to my longer length silver hair. It works like a statement accessory, and if I add other statement items things can get too busy. I have had to refine my colors and patterns and the nature of my accessories (necklaces, earrings, glasses frames) so they complement instead of compete with my hair.

Suzieq, Cardiff Girl, I am glad the proportion of this blazer works. I planned to work on improving my outfit proportions this year, but this is really my first post. I plan to continue with more as time permits.

I understand your concern, but think this looks great.
I am frequently “ cut in half” because I have long torso compared to kegs. But I don’t always like the “ back view” of some shorter jackets with pants.
I do wear some shorter jackets with wider higher waist pants or skirts.
I think that there are aspects of blazer style and fit that work better or not so much. Something about this blazer works very well at this length, and wouldn’t necessarily be better longer.
I also understand the contrast issues that can camouflage proportion and lines.
But, if I tried to line up all of these things, plus colors , seasonal weight, tops, shoe preferences, my outfits would tend to be one- off fixed combinations and not versatile.
I already feel like I don’t have as much easy mix and match as I’d like.
Anyway, I do watch out for these issues and it’s caused me to reject items during store or home try- ons when I see the length or cut just doesn’t work at all or only with a very limited support act.

Agreeing with others, I think the jacket looks perfect, proportions-wise! One thing I've noticed is when people take phone pics, the proportions can be distorted, overall (where people hold the camera tends to make their top half more prominent, their bottom half recede), which seems to be happening in your second pic. So maybe that's contributing to what you're seeing?

From the photo, the proportions look fine. But because of the angle and slight foreshortening effect of the photo, We may be seeing something slightly different from what you're seeing in the mirror.

Personally, I also feel stumpy/disproportionate in jeans/blazer/sneakers. That feeling goes away when I switch to booties or sandals and roll the jeans a bit to expose at least a bit of ankle. I don't understand why it feels different to me -- there must be something about the flat, (visually) heavier sneakers that I'm responding to. Or maybe it's just one of those personal things that doesn't make any sense, and nobody looking at me would see any difference at all.

I also think the proportions are fine. Blazer length and volume is challenging, I know. Wish we could get back into the shops to do some dressing room experimentation. Until then, I think Angie's guides are very good, as well as looking at online fashion shows. Also, Net-a-Porter styles their products nicely, if you want to see how they do the newer big-volume blazer looks.

I am short & have found I can mitigate “the chop” using tonal clothes.

I think this blazer fits you perfectly! Have you tried cropped or cuffed jeans with it?

This palette is SUBLIME with your hair and complexion, Staysfit!

The regular length blazer looks great here, and fab with the skinnies! Good proportions. No need for concern ;)

Although I know what you mean about "the cutting line". You might prefer a blazer that length when it's lower contrast to the bottoms. Tempers the horizontal line.

I prefer a shorter blazer - see my Hobbs jackets. But I wear wider bottoms than you do, and flared dresses/skirts. You stick to sleek.

Today, I'm wearing the Boden dress with the red Hobbs blazer. Proportions look better to my eye because of its shorter length.

Generally though, I prefer shorter jackets and longer coats.

I like the current length - I'd like to steal the whole look! It's polished, classic with a twist, nice spring-like feeling outfit. Fab on you!

Inspired by Irina and Runcarla, I tried to create my version of a plain outfit. Jeans, V-neck top, sneakers and blazer. I ended up with both necklace and earrings. When I looked at my photos I thought perhaps my blazers need to be either longer or shorter. It seems this one cuts me in half. What do you think?
