So it seems universal that light colored bottoms are the key. I never realized how heavy the bottom layer appeared until you all pointed it out! I am stuck on the dark colored bottoms because an up close look at the fabric has a deep purple/gray woven through the pattern and I wanted to match that. But in the picture I now see what you see - a lot of light colors that need to be balanced with a lighter bottom and lighter shoes. Such valuable feedback - thank you!

So, here's my plan: I just ordered new dark skinny jeans from the Gap that did not work out, so I think I will exchange them for some denim more suited to Spring - maybe white or a color in the tunic. The skinny skimmer jeans fit me well and they come in a variety of colors - I will start there!

Also it seems universal that hemming is the way to go (Sorry Deborah!). You can't tell from the picture, but the sides of this tunic are ruched to create more of a ruffle and, with the beige "underskirt", there is a lot of volume that my hips do not need. Hemming the top will tone this down a little and make it more proportional to my body shape.

Thanks! I look forward to posting new versions of this tunic

Love the idea of the tunic. I would actually leave the beige layer and go with pants in one of the colours in the tunic. This could potentially work over a knee length pencil skirt to.

I think hemming will help with the layering too. The cargo jacket is a good choice for a topper but all of the hems are kind of distracting. I think it will look much sleeker without the extra petticoat showing. It's a fun tunic top and you look happy in it!

You're right - the colours are so pretty and fresh on you. But I agree. It's a bit much with the layer. Hemming's a great plan. It does feel as if lighter bottoms (white?) might be a good bet here.

Your smile is so infectious. You really do look as if you are having fun with fashion!

Thanks for agreeing with me re the hemming! It's actually just a serged hem and my mom has a serger so it will be a quick and easy fix. I will have to think about a lighter bottom layer - not sure I have anything! Will have to check the storage box of summer clothes under the bed....

Another yes for both hemming and a lighter bottom half. The abstract floral lovely by itself.
It is a great shape on you. I think removing the beige would work. I'd like to see it with a lighter/brighter bottom half - white or red jeans & lighter shoes?

This tunic is a pre-YLF item that I used to adore but I am no longer sure of. I like the colors but the beige "petticoat" has always felt a little much. I think I will have my mom (sewer extraordinaire) look at hemming the beige fabric so that it can't be seen. I am wearing the tunic with charcoal skinny pants and brown flat boots. The other thing that makes me struggle with this tunic is what to wear over it when the cool Spring weather is calling for a topper. Today I paired it with my new utility jacket from the Gap which felt okay but I now look at the pics and think... Meh! I really enjoy your thoughts and feedback so what do you think? I am open to ideas. Thank you!
