Marley, I missed you! Thanks as always for your feedback. Your observations are so useful and have given me much to think about. I'm glad that everything still has tags.

I so agree that I should stay away from chunky. The look does not work for me at all. I have tried it enough times in enough versions to realize this. It overwhelms my frame and features. i think that may be part of the problem with the geo knit sweater from Talbots which is in another post from today. Too chunky, not only a color issue.

The turtle neck observation is spot on! I do not like these chunky turtle necks at all. The fluid lines are much more flattering.

I was not able to make this pair of slouchy pants work. They felt too awkward when low on my hips. I may try to find yet another pair and if the third pair fails, I will give up.

Looking at the denim skirts I think you are correct. The longer skirt is much more flattering, and frankly, more comfortable when I wear it. Once again, the chunky issue may be playing a role. I ordered a new wool pencil skirt. If I like it, maybe I will eliminate the quilted denim.

I'm finally getting some time to spend on the forum and just had to look up your posts, SF - and see what you've been up to! What a great collection of items you've got going here! I LOVE you in the Light Summer color palette - and I LOVE your hair color! All of a sudden I am noticing your facial features - which is something that I had to kind of look for before - KWIM?

Ok - on to details!
1) The Kensie tunic surprises me because this just does not seem to be (from what I know of your style) to be you. There is just a lot going on with all of that fabric around your mid-section - and then there's some more stuff going around the neck - but I can't tell for sure what the neck is doing (even when I enlarged the pic I couldn't figure out the neck) - it looks like there is either a seam or a zipper going down the front that is intersecting with your necklace? Well, anyway - I'd ditch the necklace for sure - because it distracts the eye. As it is, I don't know for sure where to look when I look at this pic - my eyes are being pulled between the neck and the mid-section. LOVE the shoes! I think the tunic is really short to be wearing with leggings - I'd consider trying it with skinny pants instead.
2) Great colors - great outfit! Do you happen to have any cognac booties? Just curious because they might bookend your hair really nicely in this outfit.
3) Next!
4) and 5) I would consider avoiding any article of clothing that uses the word "chunky" in its description. "Chunky" is going to look just like too much fabric and too much thickness and just too clunky for your fine features! I love the pants - but here's what I think you need to try: pull those babies down so that they are at your hips - like, kind of hanging from your hips, get yourself some tops to semi-tuck into them - and then you can decide if they work for you or not! I really think that the oversized look on your bottom half could be quite flattering for your slight frame - give you a little more grounded look - if you know what I mean! I too, am very narrow hipped and small on my bottom half and oversized bottoms have changed my life! Also - if you let them slouch a bit down on your hips that will give them some more length (which I think is needed in order to make this style work!)
6) and 7) Love the color of that top on you and love the neckline on you! Not good with those pants though.
8), 9) and 10) Beautiful blue color on you. Wrong tops for that style of pant. Also, it just dawned on me that I think you look best in a turtle-neck type top that is a fluid turtle-neck, as opposed to what I would call a structured turtle-neck (like this blue one.) I'm talking about the neckline in 6) and 7), the neckline in 1) and the neckline in 2) created by your scarf. They are all drapey and fluid looking turtle-necklines, as opposed to those that are more structured, stiff, etc. The structured stiff types seem to emphasize your long neck while the drapey types soften your neck and face! Does that make sense? Also - I hope I'm not hurting your feelings, but 8), 9) and 10) - while a great color for you, just seem so staid and conservative and kind of "old-lady" - not that there is anything wrong with that (do I sound like Seinfeld???? hahhaha!) - but it just doesn't strike me as your style. Perhaps if the cardigan was cropped it would look better on you? Either way, I'd keep the cardigan unbuttoned.
11) Love the boots!
13) I'm skipping to this one because I love this outfit - so very chic and beautiful colors on you - and the boots are great - and the skirt looks like the perfect fit! 12) - I'm not crazy about. The skirt looks bulky to me and too short. A question that immediately came to my mind was "why would you hang onto this denim skirt when you have that absolutely fab one in outfit 13)?"
14) and 15) Nice color but it sounds like IRL you can tell that its not working for you. I think the turtle-neckline is too chunky and too structured/stiff for you.
16) Love the color on you - and see how this neckline is just a little bit fluid? So flattering! I'd try this top with your oversized gray pants and see how it looks. To me, your necklace is fighting with your glasses and the necklace is winning - when it comes to attention. I look at it first rather than your face!
17) Not a fan of this - but I have absolutely no business critiquing anyone's winter outerwear - I live in So CAL for goodness sakes - so I really don't know what you cold-weather people have to go through! I say wear whatever you need to wear to stay warm and feel good about yourself!
18) Same as 17) - although I like this one better than 17)!
19) You've got the best footwear collection of anyone I know! I think these are cute - and fun! Hope you enjoy wearing them!

The Light Spring palette is so pretty, it must be a delight to shop! And how exciting for you to find how the colors light you up; I'm glad you found your "season" at last. The delicious watermelon pink and turquoise pieces are my favorites in these pics, but all your pastels look great. You certainly have the figure to wear more junior pieces like the Kensie dress, but I still worry that clothes from these lines lack substance, and may seem unprofessional IRL. Love both pairs of booties, and as to the baggy track pants, I'm no judge--bought two pair, decided I look awful in them, and won't be wearing them out of the house . . .

I like the slouchy pants, but not with the cropped chunky knit. I think the sweater is what throws them both off.
Really like them with the longer more fluid sweaters. That red/berry color is lovely on you!! And I think this coat is the best of all that you tried.

Suz, this sweater may be Berry melange. I purchased it last year. Perhaps I will keep looking at slouchy pant to see if I can find something. This is my second pair. Maybe my third actually. So far all were rejects.

Sarah, you make me chuckle! Your thinking is pretty much in keeping with mine and you didn't have to read my long post! Good thing the tags are on everything you didn't like, and I already returned most of it!

Perhaps the turtleneck in pic 8 would look better with a different pair of pants?

The boots in pic 19 were irresistable! Librarian never entered my mind but I can see that. I thought wicked witch on Halloween! See where my mind went! Perhaps that will give you a clue about how I will wear them?!

I'll try and get back later to post more, but ditto what Suz said on the pants. I like the top in #2, very pretty color. I'd pass on the plaid shirt, but then I'm not a fan of snaps on plaid or denim shirts - too western.

I think you look wonderful in 1 and 2 - the colours in 2 are perfect on you! 1 is a fun casual look. I also love the new boots in 19 and the white/ivory turtleneck on you. Ivory is a lovely colour on you.

I think the grey pants are a no. The fit is off somehow, and I think they will be too hard to style. These pants need to have an elegant slouch and somehow they just don't. With your legs and frame there will be plenty of pants that do suit.

Ok - wow, didn't read all this --I must have ADD - but here's my two cents:

photo 1 - I agree with unfrumped and you look great in the dress over tights look. Not a huge fan of that dress - kinda alot of fabric - or something - not sure.
Photo 2- love the top and pants - not a huge fan of the scarf hanging so low - maybe one more time around? Colors are great.
photo 3 - kinda Paul Bunyan-ish or "I'm a lumber jack and I don't care". Maybe plaid should be paired with more refined boots? I'm not sure - just learning myself.
photo 4 and 5- too boxy, too much fabric, meh
photo 6 - 7 - like the white top - you have a great figure! like the pleated baggy pants with the more form fitting top - but not with the looser tops.
Photo 8-10 - meh - not working - to be honest - very OL (old lady) I will differ to other to disagree.
Photo 11 - cute boots
Photo 12 - can't see the scarf tie because of phone
Photo 13 - 16 - great MOTG looks
Photo 17 - 18 - statement coats that look good and in your colors - if you feel great then go for it!
Photo 19 - whew- I can't believe I made it this far - boots are cute but kinda librarian - needs to be pair with more edgy clothes IMHO.

I'm a big fan staysfit. :) I'm following and learning through your journey!

Well, I like the despised pants. And as someone with a long rise and a relatively rectangular shape, I find they work well for me. But you have to sort of let them "slouch" on you a bit -- I think perhaps you have them pulled up a bit high on your waist? And then the tops need to be just right. They work well with fluid fits, and with a semi-tuck (to create a curve). They can work well with a cropped sweater layered over a shirt (like in Angie's blog post). It's all in the styling. I don't think any of the pieces you tried with them are quite right.

I think we might be sweater twins (#2). Is it the J. Crew collection cashmere tee in berry melange? If so, I have one, too!

I love the booties in 11. Also love #12 on you (waving at my skirt twin) and today's outfit is super fab. Is that the J. Crew turtleneck also? The red looks great on you.

Unfrumped, I so agree with you about the pants! When I looked at Angie's post about Spring fashion today many of the silhouettes include pants with a baggy seat, pleats, and tapered leg. I already know those are not going to be good for me. I have a long rise, I wonder if that has anything to do with it?

Wow, so many items and good ideas going.
I will make a few comments to start:
Kenzie dress is fab. With your long limbs you can do the dress over tights well.
I'm not a fan of the gathered pants on you. Not sure why. I think just not for your shape. I think you could do a wider pant with a fitted hip-. But these are the reverse , a baggy seat with a tapered leg.
I like the straight slim pants type style-/ not leggings but with some body -- and more fluid or substantial tops. ( not saying not to wear leggings , I'm just distinguishing from pants). The pencil skirts look good.

I have continued my hunt for clothing I can wear in my new Light Summer color palate.
1. A new Kenzie dress I found on sale at Macy's paired with an old charcoal turtleneck and charcoal leggings from J Crew. The shoes are taupe animal print loafers by Beautifeel. This outfit felt so comfortable to wear! It was like pajamas! I received many complements so it must have looked good. I'm not sure it photographs well.
2. I took existing items from my closet. A long sleeve cashmere sweater, a pair of light grey corduroy pants and a new winter white infinity scarf. This gave me an opportunity to wear a great pair of purple enamel earrings that my DH gave me one year as a holiday gift. I also wore some blue- green booties. Perhaps not my best look, but it was in my colors so I was still happy.
3. Here is another attempt at a plaid shirt. I thought the darker squares looked blue but they are actually grey. I am not overly fond of the snap front. Overall this shirt does not seem right for me. Too many issues, plus it's too dark. It's going back to Nordstrom, My hunt for a plaid shirt continues....
4. This is the JCrew size small chunky turtle neck sweater (which is somewhat cropped) and the JCrew collection pull on pants. I had a hard time deciding about the pants. I had two sizes, 4 and 6. I already returned the 6 because they looked ridiculous. I think this pic is with the 4. It still looks a bit ridiculous, but I think that may be the sweater. Pants with bagginess around my hips and abdomen just look strange to me. Perhaps because I am small everywhere else? I don't know? They proportions just look wrong. I played around with them, so they are in a few pics. I tried to find a way to make them work, and I still have a pair because the fabric is very soft and nice. I also like the length. The sweater is way too itchy and I returned it. Yuck! I hate itchy sweaters.
5. I think this is the same thing only with the larger sized sweater. (size medium)
6. Here are those JCrew pants again with a winter white turtleneck top that isn't cropped, just to see if I like the proportion any better. I'm not sure? What do you think?
7. Here is a side view of the same thing. Still not sold on this one.
8. This is better, I think. Paired with a fluid merino turtleneck. (Same pants)
9. I put a cardigan over the turtleneck and still like it. Perhaps this is my favorite with the pants. Should I keep these pants?
10. For fun I tried it with a red infinity scarf also, but I don't think I would actually wear this. I like the simpler look better. I like the red and blue mix though.
11. Everybody boodties, Love the zips. They are charcoal grey, not black. They look very dark in the pictures.
12. I found a different way to wear the scarf and this time I like it. Paired with my blue and white stripe button down and my quilted denim skirt.
13. This is what I wore yesterday. My merino turtleneck, a denim skirt and one of my old scarves. The scarf has a lot of green, so even though it isn't in my palate, I used green tights and paired this with my brown flat Aquatalia boots. (It was raining yesterday so they were perfect!).
14. Here is the cashmere periwinkle turtleneck that is not the correct color for me. I already returned it. I tried it in two sizes, small and medium. This is the small and pic 15 is the medium. Which size do you think is better?
15. Today I sat in a conference from 8 to 5 pm. I wanted to be comfortable. I wore my NYDJ 5 pocket ponte pants, and my new red turtleneck top. It was very cozy. It was raining again so I picked some charcoal Aquatalia booties.
17. I couldn't help but top this off with the poncho/cape that my son calls the "ugly blanket cape". I happen to love it, and it was perfect for keeping me warm today in a freezing cold meeting room.
18. I found the same Creenstone coat I was looking at before, only this one is in a light silvery gray. The color is definitely in my palate. I keep going back to this coat. I really like the quilting. The fur can be removed.
19. I can't believe I am still purchasing shoes. I just fell for these beauties. They are perfect for Halloween! They are made by Arche, and are so very comfortable. They are made from weather resistant leather, and that is always a plus for me.

In keeping with my new closet policy, for every item I have purchased and decided to keep, I have eliminated one item that was already in my closet so I do not have a net increase in belonging. So far, in the pics below, the items I have removed tags from are the Kenzie dress, the white infinity scarf, and the red turtle neck. The red infinity scarf may also have it's tag removed by now.
Thanks for looking!

As always I appreciate your feedback.
