Many thanks everyone for putting up with my analytic antics! I so appreciate your feedback and will continue to post some of my experimental outfits!

E, I think you are right, high contrast would be blond streaks in dark brown hair I wish I could figure out how to get my grey-scale pics to transfer to my computer from my phone. I'm fairly certain that my hair isn't low contrast when comparing the lightest sections to the darkest, but it may be closer to medium, or somewhere in between.

You look great!

I think the earrings are more med contrast, because they're next to your med value top/scarf. I could be wrong tho. I also wouldn't call your highlights high contrast, as that would be more like blonde streaks in dark brown hair. I think a grayscale pic of your hair would show it is pretty low contrast to itself, although the highlights look lovely!

I love how you put things into action and run experiments w your style.

You look so very relaxed and chic! What a perfect look and color for you.

I wouldn't have thought to do mid to low-mid contrast at all. You are able to actually do what I wish I could: analyze and then use that info. I just like to analyze and philosophize about my style, process it in my brain, and then I go with my heart haha! (Which is why I need WIW photo sessions, because it's objective. Sometimes it looks different in photos than it does in my head and the mirror.)

Please keep posting photos as you go about your experiment. MWAH!

Now that I have learned so much about value contrast and color contrast, I would like to apply this information to further improve my style. I am therefore challenging myself to come up with ensembles on a daily basis that fulfill the medium value contrast (MVC) Low to medium Color Contrast (LCC) paramaters which I determined to best for me.

I will then see how I feel with these changes, especially because my more typical ensemble has both low value and color contrast. I am aware that my analytic approach is not helpful for everyone, but for the purpose of working on my closet, it has served me well so far.

Today, my medium contrast is formed by my dark blue J Crew Matchstick jeans and my grey J Crew Cashmere Waffle henley. I am considering both of these to be neutrals, denim can count as a neutral. The grey is a mid tone grey and the denim is dark making the medium contrast.

The color is clearly pink. (Two neutrals and a color) I kept it in a mid range. I did a grey scale on it and it is exactly the same value as the sweater. I couldn't figure out how to transfer it to the web or I would show you. In my case, I actually have pink nail polish, eye shadow, blush and lip gloss. It's a lot of pink, in several different shades but they seem to complement each other.

I added a pair of silver earring with white opals. I think this works ok. It adds a very small amount of high contrast, and I have a very little bit of high contrast going on in my hair where there are some very light parts compared to the rest. The close up is so you can see the earrings.

What do you think? Did I get the concepts right?
