Joni I think the skirt is cute, especially with the ruching. I don't mind the length actually, though I know a lot of us here have adjusted to the longer hemlines that have been trending the last year or so. However for work, ideally you'd have either short or tight but not both. This is a recent purchase, right? If possible I'd be curious to see this skirt in a size up. It doesn't look too bad from the front, but the side and back look a little too much of both worlds (and I commiserate on the vavoom fit here, I have the same issue with pencil skirts myself). So with a short pencil skirt you'd want a loose enough fit to offset the short length, and with a slimmer fit you could go longer, like a little below the knee.

As for the top, I do like this blouse much better than the shell yesterday though it feels a bit too fitted to wear with the already fitted short skirt. This blouse would look amazing with wide leg pants or a longer flared skirt especially with those heels. I would prefer to see this shorter skirt with a looser top, and if you can't give up the heels, at least pumps that don't have a platform. Tall heeled boots are another good option.

I also agree with everything Day Vies said; with a shorter skirt it's good to offset that with a looser top, and with a longer skirt you could work a more fitted top. Adding hosiery will almost always tone a look down, too. For going out after work, you could always swap the top with something more fitted if that's more appropriate, and also remove the hosiery. With my pencil skirts, I generally follow the "shorter the hem, lower the heel" mantra to keep things from being too vavoom all the time; so with my short pencils I like to wear flats/flat boots and a slouchy top, and with my longer pencils I like to wear fitted tops and all manner of footwear.

And also wanted to say that I wore one of my pencil skirts today after reading this post this morning, thanks for the inspiration :}

The shirt was a splurge on Thomas Pink. I love the fit but not the pricetag.

Thanks for the comments. I work in a mostly male environment (VC company in San Francisco) and there's often a lot of going out after work. I'm usually wearing something with one eye to the fact that it has to take me through the evening as well. I do find striking the right balance hard.

As for the heels, I can't give them up - I'm too far gone in my heel addiction. Plus I like being tall...

Is the skirt designed to curve upward between the legs in the back? If not, I think it's riding up on you and might not fit right (though the front looks like it fits). Hard to tell from the pictures. If the skirt does in fact fit right, I think the above suggestions will definitely "de-bombshell" it enough for work- it's all about the proportions.

swap the jacket for a baggy sweater and the heels for flats and you're good to go.

I vote really nice dinner then dancing especially given the platform stilettos. To my eye the material and cut of the skirt and jacket were designed to hug curves as a result it would not be my first choice for work wear.

Given that the skirt is also about 3-4 inches above your knee you might have problems with coverage while sitting (this could be remedied with opaque tights) but would require a lower heel -- even a pointed toe flat for balance.

Because the shirt (which is a wonderful fit!) is the same fit as the skirt there is no counter weight. If you went for a longer A-line skirt that skims your hips and butt then falls straight, the shirt would work just fine. Otherwise a body conscious fit on top and bottom will always suggest a night out rather than work.

This doesn't look like work wear to me, in that it draws much more attention to your hotness than to your competence, if you know what I mean. A looser blouse or sweater with higher coverage would help scale down the intensity.

I agree with Jules. You look hot, and have a hot bod. So it shows. If that's alright wight you at work, great, if not I think a flown blouse and slightly lower shoes would help tone it down.

You have a great body and wearing body con clothes and pumps, it's gonna be hard not to look hot! I have nothing against "office hotness" but if it is not what you are going for, I think even a pair of booties would tone this down a bit. But I would personally try a looser top since the skirt is very body con - that is my personal comfort level for work. Then again I don't have your bod :)
There's a woman I work with who definitely likes to look her best, still has long hair at 50, etc, and is very attractive. She wears body con skirts and pumps but goes for flowier tops and jackets... she looks great.
Edit, I'm not making any comment about your age which I assume is well under 50. Just painting a picture of someone I think of as a work-appropriate office hottie.

Same pencil skirt, but after the comments yesterday, I tried to tone things down. Does this look better, or do I still look like I'm going clubbing?
