Karie, The scarf with a print and the ruffle blouse was my attempt at maximal. I am not sure I have the features or frame to pull off a truly maximal look. I am experimenting to see what if anything works.

That emerald green coat is gorgeous - the color is perfect for you. My favorite outfit here is the tweed texture dress and the fringe cardigan. I've always heard that when you wear neutrals to combine different textures/fabrics. You've done this and you look stunning. I like the colors you've combined in the third outfit, but for me it's a bit busy at the neckline with both the scarf and the ruffled blouse. Maximal is trending now though, so you're right in step with that. The green booties are fabulous!

La Pedestrienne, Robin F, Joyce B, good idea to try removing the fur collar and retake pics. I will have some time for that Monday. I have another coat with a removable fur collar but it has maybe 25 buttons and is a nuisance to fasten and unfasten!

Brooklyn, one thing I strangely forgot to do is try the green coat with my green glasses! Even though this color is unusual, I have a number of wardrobe items that are similar in color. I seem to gravitate to this color.

Bijou, thanks! Maintaining a positive attitude and dressing nicely are extremely important to me. I have a chronic illness that can be debilitating at times, I end up hospitalized periodically, and this past year had the additional stress of multiple deaths in my family. I'm not complaining or asking for sympathy, just stating some facts. I saw how both my aunt and my mother dealt/deal with stress, chronic pain and handicap from the polio they had as children and post polio syndrome. I try to model myself after them. They both kept going no matter what, and my aunt in particular (sorry mom) always dressed and groomed herself impeccably. If I live like them, find the joy in people and activities despite the other circumstances in my life, I feel content.

I love the colour of the green coat and think it would be wonderful when it gets cold. The neutral outfit is stunning on you. Wishing you a speedy recovery. I often dress up when I am faced with a challenging situation, as it makes me feel happier within myself. As someone who only knows you from the forum, I had no idea that you had a difficult year as you always look beautiful, stylish and poised.

I love the neutral outfit, being a person who leans toward low contrast looks. But I also think the blend of textures in that outfit is really fab. I also really like your jeans and gilet outfit. The coat is a beautiful colour. I agree with Lisa that that the fur seems a little overwhelming but as you say it could look better with movement. I think the colour is quite unique, so if you love it you should keep it.

I like all the outfits, the coat is nice too but double check how it looks without the trim if that's how you are going to wear it. I love the color combination of coral with lavender, it's unexpected and looks very happy.
I am glad you are feeling better, I wish you a prompt and full recovery.

Agree that you look great in these! Love the moto and the gilet really seems to suit you. I also would like to see the green coat without the fur, I like the color but just not sure about the fur. Otherwise I love it.

Thanks for modelling the emerald coat! It looks fab on you IMHO. I'd be curious to see it with the fur ruff removed as well. I don't find the ruff *too* overwhelming, but I think I might like it even better without. I have a love-hate with faux furs on coats at this price point. My old J Crew duffle has a shearling ruff, and it still looks so beautiful; the faux ruffs always look just a little ratty to me, a little less luxe for sure. It's the one thing making me hesitate to buy this coat, but at least it's removable. Hmm.

FWIW, I have a small head too, and proportionally broad shoulders -- I have to be careful about not wearing jackets that are "too much" -- the 80s would've been a nightmare for me; thank goodness I was in diapers back then. In any case, you haven't made me any less tempted to buy this parka! Gah.

I can see why folks responded to positively to the all-neutral ensemble. It is restrained, and very well put together; the lines are very elegant and the palette does suit you, even though it seems brights are a happier place for you (you just *look* happier trying on the brights!).

Style Fan, thanks for your feedback. I feel better today finally!

Mirjana, It's nice to get your opinion. I am leaning towards keeping the green coat. It's so different from anything else I have now.

Lyn67, your point is so true! I never thought of myself as style educated, but YLF is a fashion classroom!

I think common(not fashion educated or interested) people respond positively to some harmonious, tonal lean and more conventional outfits much more easier than any other styles-but think we are all fashion educated here (from Angie) so we can fully appreciate your happy colors and fashion forward stylings (maxi gillet, sneakers to coat, and so on...), too!:-).

Banoffi, I need to check if the fur can be detached. Some fur collars can, and some cannot. I love the coral leather jacket. It was hard to find one, but when I finally found it, I pounced. I wear it frequently.

Coral, fuschia and jade, emerald, light teal and blue greens are my happy colors.

Suz, thanks for the lovely complement! I have worked hard to develop my style, as you know. It's been an important project and often an entertaining distraction while I have experienced multiple losses, health issues and significant stress in my work place. I currently feel confident and comfortable in everything I am wearing. I own my style. My mindset has been that I can feel miserable due to health concerns (of which I have many) but I am not going to complain when I head out of my house, and I am going to look my very best regardless of how I feel. I have certainly reached my original goals of putting together a wardrobe that is stylish, helps me look good, feel good, and works well together and with my lifestyle. I'm happy when I get dressed, and that wasn't the case before I found YLF. I have developed a much better sense of what I want to wear, and how I want to present myself. I'm not saying everything is perfect, far from it, but, I'm happy with the journey. I know this is going to be an ongoing process, but there is some satisfaction for me in having come this far and feeling like I am entering a new phase. It's not really wardrobe development anymore. It's a phase of fine tuning my style, honing the details a bit, and wardrobe maintenance.

Can I just say that you look amazing? WOW. Your style has gone through the ROOF this year. Stunning. It's like you've fully come into your own.

I am sorry about the surgery and hope you are okay. It is never fun....

So. I like the coat. I do not share Ummlila's perception about the fur but it just goes to show that we all focus on different things.

Love the gilet outfit. Wish I could wear my own with flats but I fear I am too short for that. I'm going to take mine on its first outing tomorrow for exactly the kind of event you are describing. I have to introduce a friend of mine at her book launch and people will be there dressed in everything from jeans to fancy dress.

Pink jacket looks amazing on you. (There, I share Ummlila's perception...which just goes to show that great minds sometimes think alike!) :)

As for the neutral outfit, it is exquisite on you. Love the lines and angles combined with softness. Really lovely.

I really love the green coat. All this color makes me so happy! The neutral outfit is completely lovely too, but all that color is just joyful.

The lines and the textures of the all-neutral outfit that garnered compliments are very good.

I like the color of the green coat, but I'm not crazy about the way the fur trim is lying on your shoulders because it makes your head/ hair look small in comparison.

I love the pink leather jacket every time you wear it, no matter what else is in the outfit. I think it's your magic color. The little scarf is a great addition.

Also, kudos for even posting right after surgery. Hope you feel better soon!

I am still in surgery complication recovery mode, so it's a shorter work week than usual for me. I have mostly been sleeping, or heading to the doctor. My plan was to build outfits starting with my shoes. This is not my most polished week. Clothes are wrinkled. No makeup.

First, let me show you the Emerald Green J Crew coat I ordered. What do you think? K/R

Outfit 1: Wool Rag and Bone Sneakers, Derek Lam 10 released crop flares, an emerald green Equipment blouse, and the Rag and Bone gilet. It was an outfit that worked hard from 7am when I left for work until 9:30 pm when I returned home from the Friend of the Library Author Lecture after work.

Outfit 2: Nude SW cage sandals, James Perse tweed texture dress, Rebecca Taylor fringe cardigan, Suzi Roher fringe chain belt, fake pearls and silver bangles and hoops mixed with my aunts bangles. I was bloated (which happens when you have kidney surgery) but I still recieved a lot of complements on this outfit. I'm not sure what people were responding to, but everyone seemed to like it.

Outfit 3: Green booties (Ecco) Very comfy, high rise skinny jeans, a new J Crew top, my Rebecca Taylor coral leather jacket, and a green Drakes London Scarf.

Lessons learned: All three pairs of shoes are still comfortable. The green booties are the least stable and some caution applies to wearing them on wet linoleum school floors. They are fine on carpet. I was happy with the gilet. It traveled to and from work with me on my commute and didn't wrinkle. It provided good warmth on an early fall day, it looks stylish at an afterwork social event where the dress ranged from casual to moderately dressy. Picking shoes first can lead to more waffling before settling on final outfits.

So, what do you think? What about that coat?
