Lyn, the hubby is now Chief Photographer Officer, since my younger daughter went off to college. He always snaps several pics (most of them bad) and tells me to change poses and cracks jokes so I smile.

Here's a bonus pic for you -- I turned the camera on him and told him to pose ...

So happy poses, Shiny!!:-)) Who's making the photos?:-)
In fact I very much love your interpretation of an old khaki skirrt.
I never was a khaki wearer, but now I really want a similar skirt, not trendy or edgy, just predictable khaki(mabe a bit darker, as blonde myself too, but with great fit, and stichings)!

No, it sounds great! I just never thought of it. I'm basically a newbie when it comes to pairing colors. I'm trying to get out of my 20-year rut of thinking colored items must be worn with black, charcoal, white, denim and nothing else, so I am taking notes left right and centre for inspiration. I like the red and burgundy together, too.

Adriadne, yes cobalt and also inky blues, with burgundy, is what I'm seeing, in the fashion rags and in the stores. Is this just me? It may be. My eye acclimated to this color combo awhile back. I purchased a cobalt Jcrew wool coat, was wearing it over everything, including a burgundy sweater dress... and the combo just looked totally cool. Definitely fresher than beige and burgundy, but beige came back recently. So i dunno... and need I repeat that i do not have much of an eye for color???

Also I was noticing in the magazines true-red (blue-based) along with burgundy. Which was what I was going for here, with the purse. And I kind of like that combo.

Please if anyone has a better eye for color and thinks I'm all wet here, correct me!

Shiny, I like this a lot! It reminds me of all my adorable teacher friends who wear tall boots with Smartwool socks peeking over the top and cute corduroy skirts with cozy sweaters. A look I can never pull off since I'm not an apple-cheeked blonde soccer babe.

That said, it doesn't seem quite like the direction I've seen you going - more dressy and a little luxe (a word I hate, but a look I love).

What do you think? Sounds like you're bidding the skirt a fond farewell?

I love the compass necklace times a million. Your cowl top is great--never would have guessed it's ancient.

So, burgundy with cobalt, you say? I have to try that. I just bought burgundy and cobalt long merino cardis from GAP. First burgundy item I've bought since high school, when I wore it a lot and got sick of it. It's just starting to look fresh and appealing to me again.

*adds cobalt shirt to top of fall shopping list*

Suz, yes it's quite a revelation going on over here! Khaki always equaled to me "casual." And as I've been saying on my other thread, this is where I struggle the most. Yeah, I know, most people equate denim with casual, but I've never been a jeans gal. Jean jacket, sure. Not jeans. I have jeans and all that... and nice ones... but I still just don't feel it, ya know? Do I need a mental alteration, or what?

Not sure I'm ready to give up chocolate brown just yet... that's the next experiment.

Thanks Pil -- it's great to get that objective eye, as I cull through the more stubborn items languishing in my storage/holding area. I am beginning to realize a lot of why I've held on to certain items is for obscure sentimental/emotional reasons. All I have to do is look at this collage here... http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....e-planning ... and see how this skirt doesn't really fit the color direction I've gone in, the last 5 years. Dress in #15 does have beige in it -- can't see in this photo. Just in a small color block at the shoulders. Small doses I can do. Otherwise, everything is blue-based cool tones, no?

I think what a part of me wants to figure out is how to incorporate burgundy, long one of my favorite colors, in a palette that has zero beige/camel/tan at all... I know it can be done. This is what is on trend now, right? But the trick is to mix it with navy or cobalt -- NOT beige. And this, I can do. So I'm keeping the top for now, to play with that.

Caro, it is lightweight, though fully lined. But yeah. I feel you feeling my vibe there... I have so moved away from khaki pants. I now recall I bought this skirt as a way to gently "up" my style from uniform ubiquitous predictable khaki pants... to khaki skirt with some structure and a bit of zing (the stitching). I did love this skirt for a long time, because it was segueing me in a new style direction. I'm glad I saved it this long, because it is like Shiny fashion style archeology! But I am beyond it now... and khaki... I'm beyond that. It's not the best look for me.

Yeah... going to release it.

Goodbye, skirt! Thank you for the experience. But we are parting ways...

Lots of pics because DH took a lot of them.

Occasion:
Monday with crisp barely 70 degree weather. Running errands out and about, capped off by dinner at favorite local pub (YES we eat out A LOT).

Method to madness:
It's Monday. Not a weekend, but also not a weeknight where we normally do much more than go to local casual pub. Call it a segue day. Perfect day for wearing something older rather than newer. Save the newer stuff for later in the week.

Outfit:
- Horribly old burgundy BR knit cowl neck top. Despite being fairly ancient, has not pilled or faded, but I've treated it with TLC. It's like my magic top, or something, because I've worn it a zillion times. I love the color. In these photos it looks black, but it's not. It's burgundy. YEAH! Burgundy! Burgundy is on trend again!!!! I am hanging on to this one until I acquire a replacement that will last me the next 10 years....

- AT skirt, beige with burgundy and pink stitching. Also ancient. But, I may release this one. It is getting snug in the waist. Worked fine until dinner. I debated having the tailor remove the waistband and put in a stretchy ribbon instead (I just need maybe 1/4 or 1/2 inch, no more than that) but ... well... it's ancient and I've moved away from beige. I am okay wearing it this season since beige is back in style. But overall I think I will release this one soon, or after season's end. DH complimented this skirt tonight so that makes it weird too.. he never compliments. Yet he liked this enough to say something. But I think that may be because he's so preppy he lives in khakis himself... and probably found it odd to see me in something khaki colored. I am writing a novel about this skirt now, but I also decided that this beige, even though a skirt not a top, really doesn't work that great with my skin tone. And also, it kind of hangs funny, but skirts tend to do that on me. Though this pic was taken at end of day, and so maybe the skirt was rumpled after hours of wear.

- new leopard booties and red Moschino purse (new for me, consignment find). I like the dose of pattern plus bright red juxtaposed with the burgundy. This was what I was going for.

- ATL jean jacket. Was needed for much of the day.

I did try this skirt on with the denim shirt (11) and also the chocolate brown silk collared shirt (10). Both worked okay. I may not release this skirt until I wear those two outfits. Both require taller boots. Or, I'll give myself permission to replace this skirt with a different one, if it finds me this season.
