Tulle skirt fabness. </p> <p>I have finally been learning that I must be disciplined in my travel capsules or things won’t go together. This means both color palette and silhouettes. (We did the cruise because our friends had booked it and invited us along.) I had been to Japan before and yes, the trains (especially the high-speed Shinkansen) are not to be missed! Yes, you definitely need guides. There is more English spoken there than in the past, but still it's very difficult to get around by yourself as an English-only speaker (although the Google Translate app is really helpful!). We used Tours By Locals dot com for day tours in Tokyo and they were great. Also if you want somebody to plan your entire trip, I highly recommend ATJ Tours, whom we used for our Australia trip last year. My rule was "every piece has to go with every other piece," and my colors were navy, olive, maroon, and white.</p> <p>Anyway, here are some of the outfits I came up with.</p> <p>1. This was for a fun cooking class during a sea day on our cruise. It's also a version of my travel outfit, although for travel I wore navy pants and a blue/white/gold Hermes scarf.<br />2. The ship asked us to dress up a little for dinner so here is my olive tulle skirt with sparkly maroon tee, maroon moto jacket, and leopard kitten heel pumps just for fun.<br />3. It was pretty cold for most of the excursions so here's an example of layering -- fleece lined yoga pants, black turtleneck, olive/black leopard sweater, nice warm fleece-lined high top sneakers. And I added my down coat on top of all of it and silk long underwear underneath.<br />4. And here we are in front pf Himeji Castle, the largest castle in Japan.<br />5-6. Another couple of dinner outfits.<br />7. More layering for another excursion.<br />8. Another dinner outfit, same sparkly top with my new denim bomber jacket. The jacket didn't see as much action as I'd hoped during the daytime excursions because it was too lightweight to wear on its own but too bulky to wear under a down coat or jacket.<br />9. More layering: Turtleneck sweater, graphic tee, down vest, jeans, sneakers. Not seen: long underwear and down jacket.<br />10. Oh! There's the down jacket! This is Miyajima Island with its torii gate that is submerged when the tide comes in. Very fun.<br />11. Another dinner outfit -- same dress as no. 5 but with denim vest over instead of sweater under.<br />12. I really liked this outfit --maroon tee, jacket, and sneakers. And it brought good luck because...<br />13. ... we finally saw some cherry blossoms!<br />14. Another excursion outfit -- same graphic tee, yoga pants, denim shirt. This time with gold sneakers.<br />15. Near-repeat of no. 3 but different pants and no underlayer. As we went further south it got warmer, thank goodness. This was for an excursion to Beppu, which is famous for its hot springs. So of course we had to indulge and it was very very nice!<br />16. By this time I had decided I didn't bring enough nice things for evening and was desperate for something new, so I picked up this leopard shirt in the ship's gift shop and popped it over black pants and turtleneck. Not the most amazing outfit but it saved my sanity.<br />17-18. As you probably know, Japan-born Shohei Otani of the LA Dodgers is maybe the greatest MLB player to every play the game. I bought this shirt last year with the intention of taking it to Japan, and it didn't disappoint. The locals loved it! And fun fact: I saw a similar one (full length, not cropped) in a store window for 220,000 yen -- which is $1,377 US dollars!!<br />19. Wore this to leave the ship. Same pieces, mixed up and with a different scarf.</p> <p>So... that's not everything I wore but I think you've seen all the pieces at least. It was a great trip and I HIGHLY recommend Japan to anybody!!</p> <p>Oh, and I bought this amazing Issye Miyake handbag (pic 20) at the airport for the equivalent of about $375 -- looked at the price in the US and it's $815! SCORE!!</p> <p>Anyway, thanks for looking and I always appreciate your comments. </p>
