What an amazing experience that must be...I have watched several times at museums and art centers and always find myself mesmerized. Have not been to the Aria in LV...was it a permanent installation or a temporary exhibit?</p> <p>Karie - we DID have a wonderful time! Kind of surprised me, as we did not know anyone else who attended but I think there were a lot of people who came as "strangers" and left as friends. A fun event.</p> <p>Aubergine - I was intrigued by your comment about how some of the photos looked like "alien" landscapes. Many of Chihuly's pieces and collections are based on sea forms and each one has specific names, such as the "Macchia" series (the large pieces on pedestals that I photographed...like freeform bowls with wavy edges). The vivid landscape behind my husband and me is a major seascape, I"m pretty sure.</p> <p>Suz - Glad you enjoyed these photos. I know you like rich jewel-toned colors; these pieces are definitely more in the primary color range but there is a wonderful range of hue and intensity in Chihuly's work. Thanks for commenting.</p> <p>I forgot to mention that there was a lot of metallic attire at the event. Most of the women wore black plus something shiny and glam. There were a few intensely red dresses and some very short bodycon dresses, also&nbsp;a few full-length dressy skirts with elegant tops. He seems to have a presence all over the world, but I think it is well-deserved as his creativity is amazing. My husband decided he wanted to attend the gala and I had to scramble to put together an outfit from clothes already in my closet. Kind of boring black jacket, sequin-trimmed sleeveless top, black trousers -- all from Macy's.</p> <p>If you enjoy vivid, intense colors, then continue reading; if not, thanks for allowing me to share the beauty and visual stimulation of my New Year's Eve. The museum was open, wonderful food was served, a fairly competent band played hits from many eras, and a champagne toast at midnight was followed by the singing of "Auld Land Syne". Since we always stay home and have a quiet NYE, this was definitely a highlight of 2013 for me.</p> <p>The large gallery in which we dined is called the Glasshouse; it is surrounded by a magnificent outdoor garden with many large glass sculptures. The Space Needle is just a few feet away and I have included a couple of the fireworks photos so you can see the perspective we had. I was a little worried about the safety of this whole enterprise but, as you can tell, I lived through it! I would definitely recommend it to anyone who thinks it looks like a fun way to spend New Year's Eve.</p> <p> </p>
