BJ, I haven’t really transitioned the work clothing as yet. I still had a lot of work- appropriate clothing that was/is moderately dressy without seeming corporate or “office”. And I still really like those clothes, think I would wear them on weekends or out to dinner or whatever when not working, so will continue to use them while they are still in good nick.<br /> Today- shout-out to JamC who went there while visiting Auckland in January- on a day off we have been on the ferry to Waiheke with two good friends, now that all 4 of us are 65 we can go for free! We went further on the bus than last time and had a restaurant lunch overlooking a beautiful beach. My outfit could go to work but with different shoes (I wore the Skechers today and took a puffer jacket.)<br /> I want to be able to stop work or take long breaks once husband stops covering the young vet’s maternity leave hopefully later this year. But I feel he might find it very difficult to let go of his professional identity as well. I think I might like to work in a charity shop one day, but not yet.<br /> I have taken up a dance class, Scottish Country Dancing! I’m not very good at it at all yet but having fun on one evening a week. Also a once a week walking group.<br /> I don’t think I can manage as much volunteering in the future as Mary does, although I did sometimes think about the “one thing” per day, Mary! But the “one thing” might just be getting out to the supermarket!<br /> And Janet, I love that your husband is into early human/Neanderthal history! Over the years, we came to realize he has ADD, which explains so much. So retiring was a stressful idea for him — he wanted to have a firm answer of how he was going to fill his time without a cattle ranch or an IT consulting firm to occupy him! LOL He’s discovered some hobbies that he throws himself into — stargazing, early human/Neanderthal history, tending to the Japanese pines in our garden (he even bought two 50yo bonsai trees)… Meanwhile, I joke that artists never retire, so I just keep making work, although I’ve lost any desire for the “hustle” to sell. My doctor is usually in scrubs as the clinic is associated with the hospital nearby. </p> <p>My retirement coincided with the covid outbreak, I hadn't intended to completely stop working at that time, but I had recently switched over to working part-time when covid began. I worked at a college library but once classes went online for a couple semesters, my contract was no longer renewed and so my retirement began.<br /> I do miss dressing for work, it was always fun being with the young students, I enjoyed their energy and loved seeing their fashion choices, lots of the girls seemed influenced by Kim Kardashian back then. I could pretty much dress in whatever I please, although I never wore any of my jeans to work back then.
