She left today for a “block” study course for the secondary teacher training she is doing mostly extra-murally this year. Her husband went along to care for baby, as the course is in a city 1.5 hours away ( actually in Sal’s city). She will hopefully become a biology teacher as she already has a science degree.<br /> Here is a photo of her and I and baby granddaughter with face blocked out, at her afternoon tea party yesterday afternoon. We do not have any Omicron in the community here yet although we are expecting an escape any day. All her friends that attended are double vaxxed and she/husband/myself and my husband are triple vaxxed. Just feeling blue because I'm turning 30 next week, &amp; had been looking forward to my birthday party for it yesterday (Saturday) </p> <p>This is the outfit I had planned for a picnic in the park (which I figured would be safer due to COVID) but ended up having to cancel it, since we entered partial lockdown on Friday (mask mandate continues, but now all the non-essential services are closed &amp; restaurants are dine-in until 6pm 'only'). </p> <p>So I wore it instead to go on an evening walk with DH to get takeaway... it's supposed to be a 'Mexican pizza' with 'nachos' but really they're just Doritos lol! The note from the kitchen staff was nice though - makes me feel better about still supporting local businesses during this next inevitable round of layoffs &amp; economic downturn... </p> <p>I suppose this particularly hurts because we weren't allowed to celebrate birthdays growing up, but I set a date for this one *months* in advance. 30 feels like a milestone because I've been through a lot this decade (e.g. living across 4 different continents) &amp; had wanted to reflect on that with my new friends &amp; new family(!) in HK. But even before Omicron hit here, people were cancelling left &amp; right (not COVID related reasons). </p> <p>I understand people have other things to do &amp; COVID isn't their fault (or mine!), but am just feeling a bit down because it's been like this my whole life - a mid January birthday means often being overlooked because people are too tired &amp;/ or broke to celebrate properly with you after Xmas &amp; NYE lol, COVID notwithstanding... </p> <p>Anyway, sorry for the downer post - this past week has just been overwhelming with the lockdown, the cancellations, navigating online vs F2F teaching again, &amp; also getting my Booster shot... am sick of 2022 already! </p>
