Fab outfit. Woven tops always take an outfit up another notch to my eye. Just a step above the casual vibe of a t-shirt. And I really like your belted over shirt formula with skirts. Perfect for tying in the look. For fuss factor, my beloved scarves can get fussy in winter, when they are prone to jostling because I'm layering a coat over them. But this does not stop me from wearing them.

Egads, Claire! We're shoe twins! Well, I have the knock-offs at least. A little media perk from a fam trip that I never managed to wear because the strap was too loose (even on my cankles!), acquired just before I moved and so two years 'new' -- finally got them to the cobbler today, hurray! Not the sturdiest of shoes, but I love the pretty simplicity of its minimal shape --- great for instantly adding 'summery' to jeans or other all-season clothing.

In your case, though, a great supportive partner for that fabulous skirt and that straw bag --- something about this outfit says Greek to me, but that could be because I don't remember visiting the south of France!

Can't wait to see the rest of your haul!

And yes, Fuss Factor completely unmakes some outfits and garment types for me. But I confess I will put up with a certain level of fuss in the interests of my budget and occasionally my sympathy with ill-paid artisans

Claire, that shade of blue is amazing on you, and I love this outfit with the denim jacket. Great sandals! (See, to me, those would be fussy shoes because one of my "fussy spots" is my toes, which are quite sensitive/ticklish - I really don't like wearing thong sandals or anything that goes between them! I also tend to blister in that area from the friction.)

Pants are always fussy for me because of my ridiculously high rise; I'm constantly shifting the waist up or down whenever I'm walking or sitting/standing during the day. Skirts, because they generally sit higher on the waist, stay put.

Button down shirts are also fussy for obvious reasons - if I can get them buttoned up at all!

Great sandals! I can't wait to see all the shoes you scored.
Funny thing about the Fuss Factor - woven tops make me squirm, but I find knits cozy comfy. Go figure, huh? Today I was bemoaning the creeping skirt waist. And it is, you guessed it, a woven cotton skirt with no stretch. I see a trend here for me

I love your new sandals. If you run off to the south of France, I'm coming with you. I've got my passport ready ;)

I hear you on the "fuss factor" too. I have a hard time with belts because they just don't stay where they're supposed to, unless I've got belt loops to work with.

I've also been converted to woven tops for the most part. T-shirts aren't doing my figure any favors lately.

Angie, I have never been to La Sud de la France, but I've heard about it. I wonder if it gets very hot there. I have a strong, positive psychological reaction to blue and white in the summer because those colors *feel* cooling to me. Some of my hot pinks and oranges are *feeling* close somehow, like I can't quite catch my breath when I look at them. Imogen has a very interesting post on this which I can't access right now--my internet connections seems to be bogged down.

Tanya and Shannon, thanks!

Nancylee, I think you're right about the Fuss Factor needing another thread!

Shevia, thank you! I will dole out my new shoes slowly, like candy, lol! I know what a shoe person you are!

Suz, I quite agree with you on the "slightly" too short skirts. I have a few that I reserve for standing and walking occasions. Sitting in them in public is torturous! I remember talking about the scooching jeans thing last winter! Seems like a lifetime ago (now that it's so hot here) but if I remember correctly, your premium denims solved this problem for you once and for all.

Oooh! Love the blues on you. The belt totally works to my eye. And I'm with you on the woven shirts, too. (Although I fear the pile of ironing staring at me at the moment...sigh...).
oAnd how lucky to have found 3 new pairs of shoes!! Can't wait to see the others, too.

As for the Fuss Factor, you have identified something important here. Anything that makes me feel as if I have to fuss will never become a long-term part of my style and will always diminish the Happiness Quotient of any outfit I am wearing down to about zero!

Some of my own personal FFs:

Skirts that are just a bit too short. These are worse than skirts that are a LOT too short. I wouldn't even buy the latter. The former, I might think passable, until I actually try to WEAR them. Ugh.

Skirts that slide around. Amen Jewell.

Jeans that need adjustment on my calves when I stand after sitting down (get stuck to my calves and need to be smoothed down them.)

I am sure I will think of others tonight.

Beautiful outfit and the belt does add the magic touch. I agree that woven shirts are less fussy somehow - less clingy for one thing - and think the fuss factor is a high priority concern. Now let's see the rest of those flats please.

Aida, this shirt is so crispy-crunchy that no amount of semi tucking will work with it, and leaving it loose just looks homeless on me because A. I have no/slight curves, and B. It is so not "this season's" new soft, slouchy blouse. So I would end up being in the *trying and can't* category, lol! Since I'm a late adapter I will be doing the belt thing until I get enough pieces to be up-to-date. :)

Rae, we must explore this Fuss Factor further. It would nice to be able to head fussy items off at the pass, so to speak!

Christie, (so nice to know I don't have to type your middle name anymore!) my happiness factor was decent. After all it was over 100F today, and I don't know if I'm completely happy in the kind of outfits I have to make-do with in that kind of heat. But I'm trying to make peace with them. If you have a fuller bust, you can wear all of the lovely tops that I can't fill out, and I'll wear button front shirts for you, okay?

Jeanne, yep, I guess I need to allocate more $ for my feet, but I think I still did pretty well!

Jewell, I keep thinking of you when I find something good that creates curves! Have you tried a trumpet skirt? You would totally rock one of those. Any skirt cut on the bias, too (that didn't twist and turn, of course). For some reason a belt with no loops doesn't bother me, as long as it's not too tight!

Your look is summery chic and I adore it, especially with the denim jacket! The new sandals are fab, and I can't believe you're making us wait to see the others- no fair!

As far as the fuss factor goes, I've found the following to be too fussy for my tastes:
-most cowl neck tops
-skirts that twist and turn when I walk
-tops that won't stay tucked
-scarves that won't stay put
-belts on things that don't have loops- Amen christieanne!
-and those tops that have the cami or tank sewn into the garment (really two separate tops joined at the shoulder)- what a pain!

Sounds like you got some great flats Claire! I'm also working on wearing woven tops over knits this season, definitely enjoying the "put together" look with the not-super-hot-nor-clingy feel. My husband prefers lower waisted skirts, so I have several of them. My style is a bit slouchier than yours so I quite want to leave your outfit beltless and loose topped as that's how I would wear it, but the belt does look good here

Great new sandals. Please model the rest they sound divine. I think if you are able to purchase bags and other clothing for $1 you should allow a higher limit for items that must please your feet and get more wear and tear than say a skirt. You've done amazing in the bargain dept.
I agree with the fuss factor. I no longer tolerate any item that requires all day adjustments. I have tossed these into the donate pile religiously much like a shoe that is painful.

First, I love the new sandals and can't wait to see the new pointy toe flats. I think spending a little more (under $20 for each of those shoes is hardly a lot though - really good bargains) for cute shoes that you will actually wear and enjoy is so smart.

Hope you had a high happiness quoteint on the book club outfit - the skirt and top with denim jacket is a winner. That littel jacket is so fun!

I wish I could find cute blouses that fit me - the bust thing gets in the way of it being easy. But I like your Fuss Factor theory. There are items that are too fussy for me - belts on things that don't have loops, sometimes the bottom layer cami under another top. Fit could be part of it. Oh - jeans that slip down the non-existent hips.

Good to see you!

Your instincts on the belts are dead on - the blue belt definitely brings the skirt and top together, totally telling the eye that the skirt actually goes up to your natural (tiny!) waist. Aren't belts the best??

I am glad your new woven shirts are effectively fighting the Fuss Factor - I *hate* the fuss factor! If a top won't stay tucked, or if it rides up underneath a sweater vest, I just feel unkempt and looney all day. I honestly don't know if it's a fit, style, or fabrication issue (possibly depends on the item in question), but I know it sure puts me off certain styles!

After bemoaning my poor feet and the fact that I had to return a pair of heels, I cheered myself up by going to Last Chance and buying 3 pairs of flat shoes (thanks for the idea, Anna)! They were all $18.99 each. These are Sam Edelman Gigi sandals, and they reminded me of the St. Tropez style in Parisian Chic. I also got some Franco Sarto Jesus sandals (don't know the make) and some Me Too pointy-toed leopard print flats (pony!), complete with a flat rectangular bow on the vamp. They are all final sale, which in a weird sort of way is good for me, since I do so much returning.

Today was our last meeting of book club before we break for the summer. I wore:

New tan sandals
Old Navy printed and pleated blue skirt (via Goodwill)
NYC&Co. charcoal and white seersucker button front shirt (Goodwill)
New blue braided belt (F21 $2.50)
Straw bag (Goodwill)
Half way through the meeting I put on my Old Navy Chanel-style cropped denim jacket, since my friend keeps her house cooler than I keep mine. :)

I have upgraded to woven shirts for the summer (mostly) and now I'm learning how to wear them. Many of my skirts are low-waisted, so they need to be paired with a longer shirt so that I don't expose belly flesh. Only one of my skirts is high-waisted enough for tucking in, so expect to see a lot of the belt over untucked shirt formula this summer. I have found a bunch of inexpensive belts in trendy colors and patterns that I'm hoping will bring my second-hand skirts and shirts together. I feel like the belt makes my outfit more maximal, defines my waist, and lengthens my legline. It's also easy to take off at home when it's hot. Some of you are really rocking the soft blouses untucked, but I don't think it works well with this type of shirt, on me anyway (I tried).

Wearing woven shirts for everyday is a huge change for me (thank you Angie and Queen Mum--miss you-- for leading the way). So far, I've found them much cooler than knit T's, but at the same time they're more comfortable in cold A/C because of the neck/shoulder coverage.

While I'm at it, I'm coining a new term (unless someone else already has) called the Fuss Factor. I found this outfit pretty fuss-free. With knit T's I'm always pulling them down every time I stand up. Tops that have a wide/low neckline constantly need adjusting on me as well. So I'm enjoying my button front shirts, I know I can move around and they will behave themselves. I'm not exposing my chest, bra straps or my midriff. If the collar gets messed up, that's just part of the charm (I'm learning to leave it and *try* to appear nonchalant, lol). What are your thoughts on the Fuss Factor? Are there certain items of clothing that you find yourself fussing with, or is it just a sign of poor fit?
