Firecracker - I always seem to run cold these days! I remember when I used to run around with just a long sleeve T in the winter, and I would be fine. I am leaning toward short so the waist detail isn't entirely obscured.

Joy - That's a great idea. I actually have a short sleeved LL Bean one, but didn't think to try something like that. I also have a longer sleeved one that might work underneath without too much bulk, though I wonder if the neck on of that one is too high. The body of the dress is lined, but the sleeves are not, and that's where I felt the chill. I like the shape of the dress and the fit at the waist, which is another reason I rejected the cardis that I tried on top.

Angie - W00t! I'm Angie-approved!

rachylou - I have an important rule, which is I always blame the clothes, not the body in the clothes, when something doesn't look right. They're supposed to fit us, not the other way around. I find the fit and weight of the sweater matters a lot when I layer like this. The blouse is sleeveless in this outfit, too, which means there is no bunching at the arms; that also helps.

What a pretty dress!

How nice you look in the FBBO. I try to do this - jumper, collared shirt, trousers, and it never looks good. Wrong body I guess

The fall back outfit is great but I love the new dress. Instead of a topper, you could try a light weight silk underwear top under the dress for warmth without bulk. Lands End and LL Bean carry them. You could use either a sleeveless tank for a little more warmth or a 3/4 sleeve "tee" style for more warmth.

That's a great fallback formula in outfit 1. The color of the sweater is lovely, and the plaid shirt adds interest, bringing attention toward your face--nicely done!
The dress is super fabulous on you. I understand needing another layer for warmth--that's me, too. I agree a short topper of some sort (the jean jacket is a good idea) or a long one could work. I would lean toward short, to show more of the dress, but a cardi in the same length of the dress is on-trend, for sure.

Two work outfits from this week:

#1 - This is a winter FFBO for me: sweater layered over blouse or tee, with black trousers. The BR sweater here is at least 7 years old. I still really love it, and it's in great shape. (A gray v-neck that I purchased at the same time, in the same knit, is showing its age and will probably be retired after this season.) Meanwhile, I am beginning to think this JCrew blouse is layering magic. It adds just enough personality to an otherwise plain ensemble, and it goes well with everything. I did try leaving untucked, but it's very long (even longer on me than it is on the model in the Find). It looked goofy, so I retucked it. My trousers are a bit loose on me and require belting. I think I should have them taken in a bit so I can wear them without a belt; it would be nice not to have that bulk for outfits like this one.

#2 - New Loft dress. I thought about layering a cardi or jacket over it, but nothing I tried looked quite right. I think a top layer would need to be cropped or as long as the dress. Anyway, I ended up being a little chilly in my workplace, though I did get some nice compliments. I have recently ordered a denim jacket which might look okay over this until the weather warms up a bit more. We'll see when it arrives.

Comments, feedback, and ideas are welcome.
