I love the back story of it as well. I have a red and black very 80s sweater that I bought shopping with my Mum in 1989- she bought a soft pink one the same day, they were both from a cancelled export order at the time. She later gave me the pink one which I wore when pregnant and stretched it rather, so I no longer have that. But it’s special to have the red and black since she died in 1999. I took a look at the Zara site — nothing that quite ticks all the boxes but I like the large scale of their patterns. It’s the only argyle I have anymore, besides some socks. Miraculously, it somehow still fits me now. It’s actually a cardigan, but I don’t care much for cardigans anymore so I turn it backwards and wear the button side on back. It sits pretty well this way. I layered it over a JCrew tissue turtleneck for a little extra warmth. </p> <p>Worn with my Nili Lotan jeans, which have proved to be such workhorses that they justified the high price tag. Also a pair of green Hispanitas boots that I bought in Spain. They are not quite four-miles of walking comfort but they work for a less strenuous day. </p> <p>I was struck recently by how similar this new Vince sweater is to my very old one! The tag from mine is long gone, but I remember it was one of Macy’s old house brands. It’s perhaps not my absolute best green — I favor cooler shades — but I still like it and it’s very sentimental. </p>
