You look elegant in the cream jacket and blouse with these trousers. And I like them with the coat, too. Very dramatic with the scarf!

They look great with the boots, blouse and jacket. Coat does look big on you but I like the way you draped the bag over it.

Your adorable dogs match your outfit! I really like the cream on cream look. I know what you are saying about not exposing ankle skin in the winter. I have a slimmer cropped pair of dress pants that fit over a pair of higher shaft booties that don't allow exposed skin. The booties fit close to the ankle so it works to keep me covered and warm.

I have to say that you brought back great memories for me with your Mom's belt from Marshall Field's. I miss my Grandmother taking me shopping to Marshall Field's on State Street. She loved that store and I did too. Still miss it.

Oh, thanks so much for all the feedback! I've wanted a pair of serious-looking charcoal grey pants for years, and while I thought I wanted a trouser-style leg I do find a narrow cut more flexible since it frees me up to play with volume on top. (I've also got a black pair, since an odd sale discount calculation made them ridiculously cheap.)

As for footwear, I don't think I'll ever bring myself to wear pumps--thinking dresses and skirts required them was what kept me in pants for decades. I see what you mean about the scrunch, and I'll probably go with different boots next time (and keep an eye out for a narrower bootie with a heel). Since I'm not into even an inch of bare leg in the late fall or winter I'll have a challenge styling these ankle pants in that regard.

The black-faced dog is Zin, and the one with a wide white stripe down the center of his face is Zephyr. They're getting a kick out of these outfit photos.

Those trousers are fantastic on you. I love the dressy look of the blouse and lace jacket with them. I find it hard to make out the details of the boot/pant look here (these colors are so hard to photograph), but I'm wondering with Joy if there might be a tad more scrunch than I might find ideal with the silk and lace on top; I would go for a sleeker look on the bottom half, perhaps a shorter bootie that does not interfere with the pants hem or a pump or perhaps a tall riding boot or over the knee boot. Stilll, this is a very picky point, and I think you look elegant. Going for the heels was a great choice. This outfit would be great for work-to-dinner or holiday gatherings. In my experience, a great pair of charcoal ankle pants is a total wardrobe workhorse.

The blazer looks great over the silky blouse and I like the pants tucked into the boots. The generous fit of the coat works in that style, I think and the pop of colour from the scarf is fab.

The lace jacket is beautiful and looks wonderful with the trousers and blouse. I'll let others comment on the trousers but wonder if there is a little too much scrunch for this outfit. I'm not good at this. Have you tried pumps as in the AT photo?

I really like the cream on cream toppers with your coloring. I can't see the boots that well on my screen but I like the shape of them. I think the pants would look good with flats for booties with a bit of skin showing (of course sometimes it is too cold for that). The scarf is very pretty on you. Who is that fury face sneaking into the pics?

In spite of my plan to spend winter in pencil skirts and sweater dresses, I recently picked up the Ann Taylor Kate Refined Ankle Pants, in charcoal, and tried them out today with the lace blazer I picked up at a consignment store. I went for a cream on cream look on top with a silky blouse--in the past I would have gone for more contrast, but I now like the idea of close enough colors. Gold accessories, including a metallic belt my mother probably picked up at Marshall Fields in the 1950s. The outfit looked just a little staid and matronly to my eyes, so I went for high heeled black boots--instead of my usual flat moto boots--for a little dash. I tucked the pants into the boots and to my surprise they stayed tucked in, but I'm not sure what I think about the tucked-in look.

Photos 5 and 6 are with outerwear--the oversized Trouve coat that I bought back when I weighed more and also I wasn't so picky about fit, together with the scarf that leapt into my hand this morning.
