Very pretty all around. I would keep the elastic in if it doesn't bother you. I especially like the last print mix!

Thank you SO much, Brooklyn! This is incredibly helpful and I will absolutely be playing with these formulas. I am so grateful to you for coming back and laying out those suggestions! And I do agree that those scoopnecks lend themselves to a short necklace. I have not done as much playing around with layering but you've given me some great ideas to get started.

I think some of the scoop necks you wear would look good with a shorter style necklace (16 inches or less). Either a chunky style necklace or finer pieces layered.

I think beads are pretty for Summer and they are generally easy to thrift. You could wear them long and layered or doubled over for a shorter effect. I like to wear them in 3s. So 3 long beaded necklaces (of slightly varying lengths) worn long, or 1 long beaded necklace doubled over to make it short with 1 short necklace in a plain gold or plain silver (depending on your preference).

Ooh, thanks for that tip, VioletMyra! Maybe I’ll throw that linen skirt in the wash whenever an opportunity presents itself and see if that softens it up some.

Love your linen skirt (pic #2) . . . I wash my new linen garments every chance I get - including putting clean garments in the wash if they're the colour of a load - as it softens them and they wrinkle less the softer they are . . . at least that is my experience. I wear a lot of linen (especially long sleeved white tops) as here (Queensland, Australia) the summers are long with high temps and humidity. Best wishes to all.

Brooklyn, yes! "Accessorize" is low-key on my list for a future week's challenge. I would LOVE to hear any suggestions you have! Not sure how to describe my jewelry style...I generally am drawn to secondhand/vintage (quelle surprise) and relatively lightweight for my work at home lifestyle. Grateful for any suggestions!

Super pretty outfits. The Liberty and Liberty-esque prints suit you so well. They look airy and Summery.

I don’t know about the elastic. I would remove if it bothers you. (It’s the sort of thing that would bother me).

What’s your jewellery style? A few of these outfits are crying out for a pendant (IMO).

Vildy "bugged by being dictated to by the top" -- you're making me think of Cee and her aversion to cowl necks. Maybe elasticated waists are my cowl necks!

Suz, yes, my summer capsule has long been a rather weak, haphazard part of my wardrobe -- in part because of the (former) lack of hot weather in Seattle. So I do feel that I am finally learning what works best for me, but I've had to sort of nose my way there...

Runcarla I guess I am having a bit of a paisley moment! I think I'll embrace it!

slim cat, thanks for the kind words and great idea about taking the paisley dress into fall. I don't have any denim jackets but I do have a navy cardi with sort of a similar cropped, boxy cut...you've just made me realize that cardi is "my" denim jacket and yes, I think it would work great with the dress as the weather cools. Maybe with my mary jane clogs? Very boho-back-to-school, I like it!

Nice outfits! More love for #2 and #3 , and I like outfit#7 - black skirt is probably essential for summer dressier looks ( I have one as a fav for work and after ). The skirt/dress in #8 works pretty well - would work with white denim jacket ( or darker blue one ) for fall maybe?..

You and paisley! The green blouson top and the skirt/dress are my favourite items, and #2 is my favourite outfit. The low contrast between the top and skirt gives it a long, lean, column look, and the skirt is short without being too short. Perfect shoes, too.

FWIW, I collect LRL (mostly via thrifting) as well ;-)

I love the elastic on this top for the blouson effect. But if it bugs you, by all means, remove. Just make sure you will not have to crop it too short if the elastic goes to get a hem that you like on it.

It's too bad about the top in #1 because I really like that look on you -- maybe you can find a new top to work with this. I also love outfit #2 on you--again, too bad about the skirt! But it does sound as if you are making really good discoveries about what works and does not work for you in summer weight fabrics and cuts -- you will be getting rid of stuff that isn't suitable and sifting through the thrifts for what you truly enjoy wearing.

I always remove elastic in the bottom of a top. It just works for me otherwise I am bugged by being dictated to by the top. :D I also remove elastic that's put into the waist of a fit and flare dress and also from any blouson dress and prefer that longer waisted.

Interesting to see the diversity of opinions on the green shirt/elastic! Several votes for keep, one of you says it's suboptimal with the black skirt and another that it's less good with the white. Hmm. I am pretty sure the construction of the shirt is such that I could snip the elastic in a way that enables me to stitch it back together if I want. I might have to experiment...my seam ripper is itchy!

Go ahead and curl up in your chair in the linen skirt! Linen is so cozy when it’s rumpled, and you’re focused on other things than what a family member who intrudes on your work might see. Besides, I love that color.

Sorry the pieces in 1 had to go, but given your recent post on sheer tops, yeah.

I like the current shape of the green top with the black skirt much better than with the white.

The print on the dress is great. Hard to tell about the shape under the cardi.

You pull off 'long over long' in the first look well - my lack of height becomes very apparent if I try to do that

Hmm I can see what you're getting at with the elasticated waistband on the green top - it doesn't look 'bad' per se but it looks a little 'heavy' when paired with the dark long skirt. Would you want to try it worn slightly higher up? I have precisely one elasticated hem & find it works because it hits right at my natural waist (so it also doesn't uncomfortably restrict my walking movements in any way) but YMMV.

No,I would not remove the elastic. I like elasticity in the bottom of tops to add a little structure without tucking. You will be glad for that elastic as your body ages. That may be a long way off. If so, remove it now.

Continuing my efforts to get back in touch with my hanging clothes closet downstairs! I am finding weekly-ish challenges are useful in focusing my creativity. So the brief here was “wear all the skirts you didn’t wear last week.” Here goes:

1: I quite liked this silhouette with the longer top and bias cut skirt, I also liked the mix of blue shades and the way the tennies casualized the outfit. Alas: the top was (you’ll be totally unsurprised to learn) too sheer (my husband actually remarked “Is that your bellybutton?”) and the skirt is too big. Both went to the donation bag.

2. I like a short skirt in summer as a substitute for shorts. (A skirt is not quite as practical for curling up in my writing chair but oh well.) I like the colors and proportions here very much. The skirt is 100% linen and not the much-ballyhooed European and/or vintage variety so it creases terribly: it’s on probation.

3-5. Black or white skirt + Liberty print top. You know I thought this was inspired by a couple of recent “Chic sightings” posts on The Vivienne Files but now that I look back I see that she was talking about something different entirely. Oh well, misremembered inspiration is still inspiration, I say!

6-7. Just trying things out — swapped the skirt/top combinations from above. I rather like the more unexpected dark/light combinations but they all work, to my eye. Also I didn’t really optimize the footwear here but let’s just take this as an indication of how versatile metallic sandals are!

8-9. One more hectic pattern mix! This dress is a recent addition to my closet. It was sold as a dress, but I’m pretty sure it is actually a skirt (it arrived strapless, I added bias tape straps which is a move I’ve been doing a lot lately, did the same with that black dress from the previous set of outfit photos). It’s quite voluminous, but I think I’ve decided to embrace it. I really like the print and the periwinkle background. The fabric is such nice quality too (brand is Lauren Ralph Lauren, which I’m now officially looking out for).

Oh hey: The green Liberty print top is the other (now only) top in my wardrobe with an elasticized hem. It doesn’t bother me as much as the tie-dye tank I bid adieu to last week but still…it’s a bit fussy. What do you all think, should I remove the elastic?

Thanks for looking and as always, grateful for any comments or suggestions!
