Donna - they're just teeny shoulder pads, and they're sewn in - I'd have to remove the lining to get at them.... I may give it a try anyway though - I'll get it would add enough room. Thanks for the idea!

Does the jacket have shoulder pads? If yes, removing them or changing them for smaller ones would give you some room.

Nothing irks me more comfort-wise than tight shoulders (other than tight footwear). I would hate that kind of stress. I agree with the suggestions you've gotten and to look for a better fitting jacket if nothing else works, because this a great dressy casual look on you. Plus a versatile black jacket can work in so many ways.

You look terrific in this outfit.
If the jacket really bugs you, maybe you should retire it and seek another, perhaps one a little longer, like the inspiration piece, in keeping with that whole "Amelia Earhart" thing.
The hair is adorable.

A successful look, all in all. That's too bad about the jacket making you tense through the shoulders though. If it can't be remedied, pass it on.

I do prefer wide-leg pants with a bit of a heel. You were wise to wear black shoes though, to balance out the jacket.

Thanks Inge! It's pretty rare that I "do" my hair at all - but I had a bit of extra time that morning, and so did. I guess it paid off!

Your pants are just right! Great job.

As for the jacket, sure you can try to stretch, but I am doubtful. I have very low tolerance for snugness in the shoulders, so take my words with a grain of salt. The one jacket I have that is like that drives me batty and I keep telling myself to put it in the consign pile. It happens to be a useful piece, though, so I keep it anyway....

I like the black and brown together! If the jacket doesn't stretch out, I would get rid of it. Being tense all day doesn't sound like fun.

Great interpretation Amiable! Your pant length is perfect and I adore black and brown together. Too bad about the jacket - definitely try the 3/4 sleeve option.

Ahh - great ideas on the jacket - hadn't thought of altering it to actually be 3/4 sleeve. I think I can do that pretty easily. Thanks! If my attempt at stretching slightly works, I'll keep this. (I have another black jacket, which while not as perfect, actually fits in the shoulders, so I may try that one with this combo too)

And thanks for the compliments. In thinking back over the weekend, I'm guessing that feeling old probably had more to do with circumstances than clothing, ha!

And yes, I did carry a structured, mid-brown bag, bigger than the models though (I have five kids - that's a much smaller bag than I need). I always forget to get the bag in the pic....

I really like your interpretation and I don't think it makes you look old. On the other hand, if that was how you felt, maybe you could try a bolder necklace or add an interesting belt or try it with a different top underneath the jacket - maybe something patterned? As far as the jacket is concerned, maybe you could have it altered - make the sleeves 3/4? I don't have any advice about stretching though, I've never tried.

Great job on the outfit interpretation. Too bad about the jacket because this is a really nice looking outfit. If this one doesn't work maybe you'll find a replacement?
To me the pants look fine, it really depends on how tolerant you are about hems touching the ground. The pants are a bit of a wider leg and those have to be long enough, it's one of those times where it's better to ere on the side of too long:-)
I really like this on you. The top and necklace are perfect.

I lengthened these brown trousers to be perfect for my brown boots. So this, my first wearing since, I wear them with black booties, and they're ever so slightly too long (at least they look that way in the pics to me - I'm not sure that they were touching the floor, and I never tripped on them....)

Anyway, here's what I wore today. I thought I liked it, but somehow it made me feel old. And by the end of the day my shoulders were aching from the jacket and my necklace.

The jacket had been in the "out" bin because the sleeves are short, but I pulled it out and scrunched the sleeves instead. But the shoulders are ever so slightly too narrow, and just made me tense up. So it most likely goes out, even though I got compliments in the outfit. I wonder if I soaked it and put it on wet, if it would stretch a bit to fit (it's wool - Pendleton again).

Enough rambling. Thoughts? Suggestions for improvement?
