I pick up a bunch of 5 th graders every Friday and take them to a practice. Despite the cold, one boy was in shorts with THREE pairs of varying heights and wild colors and mismatched socks. I chuckled and he said he did it to be " sexy " for the kids with Down's . He further explained that he pretended to be Jesus !!!! During gym. I asked why ( as I tried to not bust a gut laughing ) and he answered, " Because, who can resist Jesus in sexy sox.....I knew the kids would love it ". So I had to ask, since he is 10, what sexy meant and that I didn't think Jesus aimed for sexy......he said he didn't know, it was just the first adjective that popped into his mind. I said, " if Jesus in sexy, mismatched socks made kids with Down's happy, He would be all over it." Then everyone in the car nodded and smiled. We were confused as all get out, but we nodded anyway ! Today is World Down Syndrome Day 3-21.... Standing for 3 copies of the 21st chromosome. To bring awareness we are encouraged to Rock Your Socks.....or wear mismatched funky socks so people will ask and we can use it as a platform to raise awareness.</p> <p>If you don't know, my husband and I have 5 children, three of whom have Down syndrome (one bio, two adopted), so this is my purpose and passion in life!</p> <p>So, I thought I would show you what I am wearing and tell you about my life's work in one fell swoop! Bonus shot of my kiddos with fun hats and chocolate we gave them as surprises when we came back from our trip in Chicago! </p>
