That jacket is too small for you. You deserve a more flattering jacket.

Love that top, the taupey stripes scho your hair.

It is frustrating when an outfit does not live up to your expectations!

You look great, and I think the shirt is the statement piece, and really suits you. I love the boots too! I can also have problems with skirts twisting, which is a reason I have ALMOST given up on them (own four, but only wear one regularly).

Thanks Dianthus! I think the jacket is a little disproportionate for me... The waist sits higher than my waist too. It does button, but since it's made from a stretchy knit that's not really saying much, right? And yes, I've worn the blouse half tucked with black jeans and felt fine. That was with just a bra. So, maybe look for a natural fiber cami and retire that jacket stat.
Thank you ladies... I feel that relief one feels leaving the doctor's office, RX in hand!

I wonder if it is the shoulder fit in the jacket. If you look closely you can see a bit of pulling in the shoulder and upper arm area. If so, it could just be the cut of the jacket isn't right for you. I find jackets a real challenge and if they don't fit just right, I feel like I am in a straight jacket.

The top is really pretty. Perhaps try it with a pair of slim pants and a cardi for a softer feel.

Yes, Aida, the skirt really isn't too short but it's a very lax ponte knit & it was fine in the summer, but now in autumn I've been slipping in a spanx type cami for warmth and all of a sudden it's wriggle central with the skirt: up, down, side to side. Must be the slick cami fabric. And the blouse felt funny too. Should have changed the minute it felt funny. ~sighs~ Live & learn.

I know what you mean Suz. I had my iPad all set up for solo picture taking but when apple went to OS8 everything shot or saved after that point stopped uploading to YLF, there's a format incompatibility I can't seem to change. Fortunately I didn't update my phone so the iphone photos still work. And for that I need my little iphone monkey! Hahahaha. I'll look into one of those mini tripods for the phone.

Ah yes, I know those outfits. I find that the fabrication of shorter skirts in particular makes a big difference in whether they stay put, and also their lining (or lack thereof). And as Suz said, sometimes comparing both the photo and the feel will help you to identify just what the issue is (and how you can perhaps fix it!).

Ah, the all-important FEEL. It is so, so crucial. But weirdly, taking photos (or getting DDs to take photos) can really help with that, I've found. You think it is all about the look, but looking back, you can analyze more easily what made you feel bad.

If it is only looks, I really like the zebra top on you. But if any item doesn't fit right or doesn't fit right under or over the others, it's horrid, especially in a role like teaching.

By the way, for my first 18 months to 2 years on YLF my DD was my constant photographer. I used to pay her a little bit to take the pics! Then I asked for a tripod for Christmas. It worked out cheaper in the end, and was much more obliging.

Thanks Aida... I think the finished outfit just wasn't all that comfortable. The pieces kind of pulled this way & that, and the skirt felt kind of twisty. But I lasted the day in it! Sometimes an outfit seems better when I think about it and then I'm disappointed by how it feels IRL... This was one of those instances.

Looks like a nice transitional outfit. The jacket, booties, and moody neutrals help keep things feeling autumnal. You say the happiness factor was only moderate, what about the outfit isn't feeling quite right for you?

Another day with DD as photog... I could get used to this!

This is a little air hostessy with the jacket, but I only wear it for the first hour or so in the classroom. These pieces were part of my 14 piece summer school austerity capsule, but now I have my new chelsea boots. One thing I have learned is to keep my dots and stripes low contrast. This zebra pattern uses an ecru with a khaki shadow stripe for the light bits.
Not my best outfit, but serviceable in this transitional weather. Happiness factor: moderate.

Jacket: Some Ross no-name label; needs replaced.
Skirt: ATLoft, methuselah worthy.
Blouse: F21
Pendant: Heather Hawkins 'goddess' horn.
Boots: NineWest via TJMaxx. New!
