I really like the dress, and it doesn't look dated to my eye. It looks like a blank canvas that shows off your amazing physique. It's thrilling to think that this simple dress could have some 'costume' options - Gatsby, medieval, or possibly 40's retro swing dance, with some Oxford heels.

And if you ever tire of that ruffle, you can remove it, and have a fantastic minidress for going out and dancing.

I can see it. I prefer the original version. Or without the belt. Belt is too low. It looks like a great cardi but it's too long. Do you have one that would stop where the tulip hem starts, or a bit higher? Still in love with the stockings in boots idea! :)

I like your original styling and the floppy hem, but agree with Celia that at least in the photo, the top of the dress looks a bit big on you. It may just be the way you are standing to get the photo.

Curious, for me what is bothering me on the dress is the top half, it seems too loose on you.
You have a lovely figure who deserves a better fitting dress, imho.

Thanks for the comments, gals! I guess the flippy hem is a bit dated, but it's precisely that hem that made me fall in love with this dress. So even it's dated, I don't mind: I find it so romantic! Plus it reminds me of the 20's flapper's style, which appeals to me.

Well, I am back home now and I've tried what krishnidoux suggested... I am more belt challenged than I thought! Hahaha!

I tried the belt up and down on my waist, and I didn't like either: specially after lunch (Austrian portions can be way oversized!), the belt makes me even more self-conscious about my waist. Is it what you had in mind @krishnidoux? (Or should I belt only the dress? Or should I use a shorter cardigan? I've a regular waist-long one with a v-cut and or a black or light grey with a u-cut on the collarbone as options.)

I love socks peeking out of boots like that also. Overall, you have a great figure and the dress suits you. I agree with Krish that the tulip hem might be a bit dated. I think a straighter cut would look more mod, but certainly this dress is still a good look!

I see a slender, lean silhouette and a dress that flatters - but good for you for exercising and eating more mindfully.

Love the look of the socks peeking out of the boots and the contrast with the feminine look of the dress's hem is fun.

I don't know if it is dated or not -- but I like the simplicity of the top of the dress, almost severe -- combined with the flippy hem. It's the kind of thing you can dress up or down quite well (as you've showed here) and I imagine I would enjoy wearing it, personally.

Good for you on running!

No bulging midriff in sight at all, only a svelte, lean silhouette.

About the dress: I love the LL inspired thigh stockings peeping out of the boots. The skin showing between end of stockings and dress's hem creates a very sexy, casual, mod look.

But I'll be frank: I am not a fan of the tulip style hem, to my eye, it looks dated. But maybe I'll be proved wrong by someone else here? In both inspiration pics, the dress is rectangle in shape. One's fit is maxi, the other is fitted. The maxi one worn by LL is especially cute with the stockings, and worn without any adornment except arm candy: it lets the dress have the centre stage. The second one, despite being fitted, still retains some movement at the hem and neckline. Also the hemline is shorter. So maybe if you added a belt, puff out the top a little to shorten the dress, add extra long cardi and let only the tulip shape bottom show?

That's what I'm wearing for lunch at a heuriger today. This is the dress that prompted my change in eating habits and forced me to begin exercising - both good things, but hey... don't tell me that when I am sweating all over after 3km running! (I can't run more than that yet. But my goal is 5km and a city run by September!)

I am usually mega self-conscious about my mid-riff on this dress and so far I've worn it only with heels (red or grey pumps). That's the first time I am trying it with boots (today it's raining outside). (After I saw this pic: http://www.shoewawa.com/lilosocksboots.JPG, I thought I would try my chocolate boots with this grey dress... Lindsay Lohan shouldn't be a style inspiration/role model, but she does look OK on this pic, doesn't she?)
