Thanks for your comments and ideas, everyone! I appreciate all the compliments on what's working and your ideas about what I can tweak. I like the idea of a "light support act" as Angie puts it and several of you suggest, for the wool trousers.
Sarah A, it makes me feel good to have drawn you out of lurking!
UmmLila, yes, perhaps the pants would look better fitted at the top, although this pair is not alterable that way. I saw the Paul Green Jano booties in taupe on eBay the other day. It's worth checking periodically if you want to find some. . .
I've been obsessing about finding some light colored shoes, as you suggest, Shevia. I wish I had some that were perfect to go with the wool pants. My taupe booties are too casual and RATE looking, I think. So I'm stuck with black pumps or booties for the time being, which is what led me to wear a blouse with black in it.

Knocking them all out of the park!! Love them all, Sharan. Your FFBO "green-out" is fantastic. You certainly wear greens to perfection. I love your trouvé sweater. Too bad it's a bit fussy, you can't tell. I like it unzipped in the first photo up past your waistband. Fab outfit. Everything looks great. Jeez the skinnies in stone look super nice, if it's more comfort you prefer I get it. But they look fantastic on. And the wide legged outfit is great. I love it. I have to admire these wide leg looks on others bc I simply have nowhere to wear them. Your legs look miles long

I love the sweater in l...I had seen you wear it before and I momentarily wanted one...I have to resist those momentaries...I do not see anything wrong with the look...The sweater fits you well and you look very chic and ready for the day...Stay away from the mirror and enjoy your look...

The suggestions re the trousers are just what I was going to say. The fit on those (and everything else) looks fabulous. The back zipped sweater looks fine, but I know what you mean about how things feel when you know something is off - I can't stand to have to fuss with my clothes. I love the color of that green jacket!

I do love to see you in those fab long cardi's and your own made items are as fab as ever. #1 is a great look and I am rather enamoured with the wide leg pants in #11. I like Denise and Angie's suggestions for helping you to feel happier wearing them.

Another great set of outfits firecracker. I love that sweater in the first one, just live it. I also can't see a problem with the back zip one, but you obviously know that it's making you fuss with it. But rest assured it doesn't show. I'm going to go against the crowd and agree with you that the pants aren't a 10. At least not from the front, I also agree the back look is good. (Great idea doing back views btw, I should start doing that too). I would try some of the suggestions here... I can't put my finger on what it is.

Whoa, I can't get past #4 - it is gorgeous on you! Love everything about it. in the photos I do not see any problem with the sweater but I do understand how annoying it is when clothes make you fuss with them. For looks, though, it is lovely. Amazing with the pants, too.

I also really like the pants in 11.

I like how you're adding your happiness factor to your outfits. I love #1 on you. Like a few others have suggested, maybe a cropped jacket would help your last look. And great job on your pants! I don't see anything that looks off in your second outfit. Do you have another top you can wear underneath it to try to keep it from shifting? Or have you tried not wearing a top underneath? You would have to keep the zipper pulled down the whole day, which might be a little difficult. Maybe you should scratch that last one.

The outfits with the highest happiness factor are my favourites, Sharon. Loving #1 and #4. Your DP boots are AMAZING, and perfect for our ghastly wet weather.

The new Hepburn trousers are gorgeous. I agree with Denise - try them with a low constant support act - or shorter high contrast jacket.

Always looking arty, polished and glam, you are. Much love. xo

I'm envious of your taupe booties every time I see them.

What if the wide leg trousers were more fitted on the top? So the widened started at the thigh not the upper hip.

Aha, Denise--thanks for the idea on the wool pants. A lower contrast top could help a lot. And perhaps the sweater looks better than I thought.

Rachylou, thank you! I have no idea, really. I feel like any success is rather fortuitous! I do think skinnies+fitted top+long cardigan is an easy formula for me lately. though.

Here are some recent outfits I've worn on mild, gloomy mid-winter days.

1-3 (worn for a day off): high happiness factor, despite the fact that I wish I had bought these corduroys one size up. (They aren't available this season.) Stone corduroy skinnies (Eddie Bauer); teal long-sleeved tee (Caslon); long teal plaid eyelash cardigan (Pleione); taupe nubuck booties (Paul Green Jano); gray and brown wool coat (made by me); taupe shoulder bag (Aunts & Uncles).

4-7 (worn to work): happy in this outfit. I really like this new sweater, except that it seems hang crooked on my body. If the shoulder seams are straight, the side slits are off, and if the side slits are straight, the zipper isn't quite down the middle of the back. I felt like I was tugging at it throughout the day. But it's not terribly off. What to do? The tags are off and thrown away.
Zip-back sweater in creamy oatmeal (Trouve) worn over scroll-print burnout tee in grays and blues (made by me); navy and white tiny pinstripe slouchy pants (made by me); silvery narrow belt; gray shimmer oxfords (Naot, Kedma); taupe trench (Calvin Klein); taupe shoulder bag as above. Photos 5 and 6 show the zipper opened different amounts. I didn't like it zipped all the way.

8-10 (worn to work): fast fallback outfit formula (skinnies, long sweater, boots). I might call this mixed greens, too. Green is my favorite color, and I've mixed my favorite shades here: sage, olive, and leaf.
Charcoal skinnies (Halogen); reptile-print silk tee in blues, greens, black, and ivory (made by me); sage merino boyfriend sweater (Halogen); olive distressed suede boots (Donald J. Pliner, Devi 3); green trench (Gallery); taupe bag as above.

11-13 (worn to work): felt good; wish it looked better. I like the outfit better from the back, actually. I think the wide-legged pants are fun for a change and love the idea of them. I'm not crazy about how I look in them, though. Maybe I just need a shorter top?
Stone wool tuck-front trousers (made by me); olive print silk placket front blouse (Nexx); gray leather collarless jacket (Hinge); black suede booties (Paul Green, Barbie); green trench as above; black satchel (Elliott Lucca, Olvera).

Thanks for looking! I'd appreciate any thoughts and suggestions.
