Thank you, Slim Cat!! I'm so glad you enjoyed the Angelica Huston photos I like finding inspiration from vintage fashion. She had such an alluring, dramatic sense of style. I have grown to love the 70s and 80s more and more, actually.

Jaime, oh thank you!! I really enjoy long lengths and tall necks and soft dramatic does make sense. I can't remember if you ever shared or discussed your Kibbe type?

As for soft dramatic, I remember having a little cute 1950s type dress 10 years ago or so. It was a fitted spaghetti-strap bodice with flared skirt just above the knee--all with horizontal stripes. (See photo below for the exact dress.) I felt very cute wearing it; it's a very bouncy, cute style in summer heat. And then I saw myself in a photo taken while wearing it. WHOA.... :O It wasn't my most flattering look, compared to other styles I've worn. I was cool all day in some intense heat and humidity, but I looked about 10-15 lbs heavier than normal. Obviously I still like that style because I just got a coral dress in the same silhouette and stiff cotton fabric. (HA!) That said, longer length, drape, and softness are much better on me.

Jenny H, thank you so dearly!!

Kibbe is interesting. I'm going to reply in length. Feel free to skip if you're not interested.

Kibbe adapted another system from much earlier in the 20th century, so not his entirely his system. (But then, all artists "steal" if you will.) His system is difficult for two reasons, imo. While he has a great eye, he isn't effective at teaching the concepts. (I was in his private FB group for a while; an experience to say the least.) On the flip side, one needs a "third eye" like an artist who can work with spatial concepts like shapes, proportions, and lines in a different way than just what we see in front of us. I feel Kibbe shines because of his use of proportion. It tends to make most gals look 10-20 lbs slimmer visually. BUT... it's really easy to feel boxed in by Kibbe's types and rules. It quickly became not fun and depressing for me. It's also easy to overthink it and miss the intuition part.

I could go on and on at length about Kibbe, both observations from the private FB group, personal experiences, and other such things. I will just leave it at that. He's an interesting character, as they say.

If you're interested in working on or studying proportions, lines, etc., I think The Triumph of Individual Style by Carla Mathis is much better than Kibbe. Her ebook version is only $20. It's terrific! She uses real art examples and is excellent at guiding and teaching the reader. You can buy just the ebook or do the webinar walkthrough with Carla guiding you for $63. Carla is only one of 10 or 11 master image consultants worldwide. She's in her 80s and still working, and she still has a great eye.

Lisa I never even thought about the stripe on the sneaker… this explains so much actually! I have always been drawn to wearing the top and sneakers together. It now clicks for me thanks to your eagle eye!

Star I’m so excited to see it jn action! I love Angie’s inspiration for you. Totally understand cold spring. We live in a mountain climate and just had a few days of snow and cold. It’s pretty normal for us to vacillate between warm, sunny weather and cold, snowy weather until May or occasionally early June. We need the snowpack and moisture but the cold sometimes gets old. I’m really ready for summer this year.

Jenni, I can see you being Soft Gamine. My quick guess was soft classic or soft gamine for you. You have a beautiful softness to you <3

You’ve been wanting to do color analysis for some time. I would try that first too, especially if there is an analyst near you. Sorry Kibbe’s new book is so expensive in NZ$ though. Maybe you can save up for it and get it for your birthday or Christmas this year?

Oh thank you Jenni

Actually, I delved deep into Kibbe in 2021 haha! You have a good eye: I’m a Soft Dramatic in Kibbe land. Kibbe is a rabbit hole. After about a year, I started feeling very boxed in and hyper-analyzing every outfit and detail. However, it did help me see that longer lines are usually better on me, I need some waist emphasis, draping, drama, and other nuances. I haven’t been able to seriously focus again on Kibbe. My hope is enough of it got internalized that it kind of integrates into my choices unconsciously haha. The recommendations do make a difference, but I do better kind of trusting my gut versus overthinking all the time. (Kibbe made me overtime everything lol)

What Kibbe type do you think you are?

Have you looked into Kibbe at all? I think you’ll be some kind of Dramatic probably. I realise it’s a rabbit hole but I did find it helpful myself even if I don’t always follow the guidelines for my probable type

Star, I so so agree about drape! Your cardigan sounds utterly killer! Did you ever feature it in a WIW post? (I probably missed it if you did.) Thank you for the split turtleneck love. Yes, loving spicy colors too. I don't know how I got so heavy into cinnamon, cloves, and other spicy shades. It wasn't intentional, and yet--here they are!

Carol, I'm just blushing!! Thank you for such lovely compliments! Had City Chic not had them, I'm not sure if I would have ever thought to pair bold print with palazzo leg pant. It's really thrilling me. OH! I'm with you about an uber long cardi like Angelica's. Where did such dramatic elegance go?!

Angie, thank you, dear lady! #3 is my favorite look of the two. I think I want to find (need to find??) a lighter cardigan/topper for #4?? The light background on the pants feels like it needs a lighter top half color. I also think I tend to do better with a column of color maybe? And the split neck turtleneck is just so exciting to me. I'm glad you like it!

Robin, thank you, sweet lady! I am really loving all of the length. As much as I want to wear short and cropped, I bat Team Long. Cropped tops are usually not that good on me.

Cookie, that's a lovely idea! I will have to try it with that skirt for sure. The olive skirt hasn't worked out as I had planned so far and I'm still figuring out if it's worth keeping or not. I'll try your suggestion!

ChristelJ, I find they do polish outfits up a lot. The only time it doesn't work for me is if the outfit is a crew-neck tee or is just very very casual.

Ket, you OWN this look! Awesome. I love both the cardigan and the split-front pullover. You do make the long sweaters look glam and chic.

I relate to everything you say about long cardis. Love the 70s feel and how they polish off so many outfits. You look wonderful in the brown cardi and the turtleneck both. You have inspired me to try a long cardi with my wide leg tropical print pants.

Beautiful! I would be intrigued to see the turtleneck with a skirt, like maybe the olive one.

Lisa, you are so kind! Thank you! I really, really love the split turtleneck. I feel very dramatic and luxe when I wear it. Most of the time, I'll pair it with my Leigh jeans and sneakers, and I feel very modern and trendy. It's kind of nice to have a singular piece that is so simple yet so dramatic. It does all the work for me in an outfit, if that makes sense.

You wear long cardigans and that shade of brown beautifully. I like it with both printed pants, can’t even pick a favorite, both outfits are just so good.

The split long turtleneck top is a real statement piece. It adds so much drama to a casual outfit, it’s a lovely piece.

My eyes glistened with joy when I saw Angie’s newest outfit formula post!

I’ve posted very few WIW examples wearing it, but I’ve been living in my knee-length clove brown cardigan for 2 years now. So much so, the cardigan is starting to look a bit worn. (Not enough to reserve for home only wear, but definitely not new looking.) I’m even considering whether to try knitting a replacement or not. It’s a light knit fabric, so not too warm; also, it’s sensual and drapey. It’s an easy, goes-with-anything neutral in a fabulous shade of brown. Easily tossed in a bag to take on a day trip or errands. It’s probably my most worn topper the last two years.

Photos 1-2. I’ve worn my lone long cardigan with just about every top and bottom I own in all four seasons of weather and fashion. A long cardigan with wide-leg pants gives me 70s vibes. Just ran across these photos of Angelica Huston modeling for Halston in the 70s. Her cardigan is even longer than mine. It’s really glam and chic!

Photos 3-4. My recent WIW outfits featuring my new tropical wide leg pants with said clove brown cardi.

Photos 5-6. Acquired in December is this calf length split-front turtleneck sweater from City Chic.(another sale goody!) Just now featuring it in an WIW post; I’m usually dashing out the door when wearing this and don’t feel polished enough tbh. It really ticks so many boxes! I have been a bit precious about wearing it, despite wanting to wear it to death. Not as versatile as a cardigan but I am tempted to knit/sew a summer version of it too!! I really love wearing it on a co-op day with my sneakers and slim Leigh jeans. Sorry for the small bit of tummy exposure. It's actually a nude camisole and because I'm so tall with such a deep rise, the deep slit can ride up a smidge. (Thus, the cami hehe!) Or maybe the sweater shrunk a bit? I washed it in cold water and dried it flat. But it is a viscose blend, and viscose and rayon are known to shrink with the best of care.
