LOL, Pil! She texted me already, just last night, to let me know she's already made some friends. She chose a school over 6 hours away, where she knows not a single soul, and she wound up in a single, so no built-in friend via roommate. I was worried about that as she has a set of loyal friends here that she's known forever and ever. But I admire her for taking a risky step instead of staying with the familiar.

... sitting here thinking about it some more, and this dress would essentially work with pretty much every cardigan I own. I can't think of one that wouldn't work with it. It would also work with every shoe I own too. And every bag. That's the versatility of an LBD or LND.

Though as I consider it more, the navy may be somewhat more versatile than black. Why? Because I do not like to dress head-to-toe in black. (I've done it, but it takes a lot of balancing of textures, and a dose of pearls and cream, to make it work). So when I wear an LBD I'm more likely to choose burgandy or brown boots rather than black. Whereas an LND looks fine -- and interesting -- worn with black hose/boots. What's more navy is more friendly for spring/summer, when you are craving getting out of your winter blacks.

I think a pinstriped 3/4 wool navy sheath is now on my "want" list....one with a longer hemline, and more substantial for use through the winter...

Lyn, I bought this dress at the beginning of Spring, which was short this year as we quickly turned to summer temps. Before that, I wore it with the cardigan shown on this WiW:

http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....e-hot-pink

Along with Nine West wedge square toe tall brown boots. These boots are a little funky and have a somewhat mod style to them. I have had them for years and they are still going strong; as we hit Fall you'll surely see me wearing them in the WiW's. No hose -- just bare leg. Was just warm enough I didn't need hose. The boots gave the look a more casual "MOTG" tone. I carried a cream clutch. I wore it that way a couple of times; on one occasion, it was cool enough to layer on a leather jacket I have that is a butter color.

I also wore this dress to work, followed by a political event after work. For that occasion, I paired them with flat round toe black tall boots, subtle patterned black hose, a Theory charcoal boyfriend blazer, cobalt blue bag, and silver statement necklace.

And of course it works with both my blue denim jacket and my white denim jacket. It would work just as well with my cropped black pleather moto, but I haven't worn it with that yet.

To dress it up for night out, I've switched out the shoes for heels. I've worn it with Campers that look similar to this, but without the tassle, and in nude, not beige:
http://www.camper.com/en/eshop.....=21682-001 ... along with a cork clutch.

... and also with strappy snake print Via Spiga's and a cream clutch.

The dress also works well with this green statement necklace: http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....green-maxi
... in fact I was wearing this LND when I found that necklace, and liked the way they worked together!

You look great in your LND!
I don't see any "mid-section sins" at all. You look slim and trim as can be.
And the shades are doing their job of hiding any evidence of tears over the empty nest. :-(
Speaking from experience, it's an adjustment when they first leave, but at least for my DH and me, we quickly began to enjoy our freedom!

Now when our kids come home we're thrilled to see them, but we're not too unhappy when they leave again and we can enjoy our time with just the two of us.
There IS life after the kids leave, and it is good!

Even though it's a knit, the ruching and cut is very artful and flattering. You look cool, collected and chic! And I just LOVE navy. Such a nice variation on the LBD. Love your fresh white bag with it, too!

Not the best picture; it was horribly hot and sticky, and my face was all puffy from crying the night before, having said goodbye to my baby and leaving her at college.

This is my "Little Navy Dress." Purchased in the spring. I have gotten a lot of mileage out of this dress, wearing it with boots and a cardigan or white denim jacket when it was cooler. It works great in the heat too, shorter length works well with these gold/nude sandals or with silver thongs with silver necklace. The dress is a substantial knit, double layered. I like the "sort of" empire waist -- it nips in at my real waist just on the sides, and then in the back the waistband rests a bit lower. It's difficult to describe. Next time I wear it, I'll take a back view so you can see. I love cowl necklines, and I like the drapey effect because it hides a multitude of mid-section sins. Which are a lot, when you just ate a very big brunch, and your 47 year old body is retaining water like a camel because of the heat!

I don't know about you but the last thing I want to wear is a synthetic shaper when it's 90 degrees out. What is with that? A knit is cool in the summer, but it clings and shows every bulge unless you wear a shaper, which then makes you way too hot?

Sunglasses: I forget what brand. Maybe Cole Haan? Hiding my puffy eyes.
Dress: Theory
Sandals: really old but still going strong
Necklace: "borrowed" years ago, (and never returned!), from my older daughter.
