This dress challenge has reminded me of that same preference for myself, and I had just been thinking I was in the minority on that thought. I really like your summer styling of this dress, it looks super. Printed tights in a lighter weight might be the way to go if you were to try a more wintery styling of this dress again; they'd add some whimsy and lightness. I'm not sure on your feelings for tall boots+visible leg (I seem to recall you liking to see leg between the hem and boot) but very tall boots could also be fun with this dress. Or possibly a very long jacket (and a belt underneath). Sometimes I think all this winterizing gets a little out of control! I think you guys are right and even my "better" version is still a little too voluminous. Plus something funny is going on with my dress/slip/leggings so it's not swishing but sticking, which feels annoying. I need more drape for this much volume to work, I think. </p> <p>Lyn, I like the idea of a fitted pullover with this dress... (The waistband of the dress is slightly too big and has some ugly gathering that I don't like, so I need to cover it/cinch it up.) All of my really cropped blazers don't close, and I never button my cardis. (Also, I think I got rid of all my simple short cardigans since I wasn't wearing them. All I have left are long styles like the black one in #2 and complicated handknit ones.)</p> <p>I like this dress but it's kind of a pain to style. Because it's a lightweight cotton, I needed to layer with it for the cold day today. My first try with a belted long jersey cardi (#2) was a dismal failure - I felt wide, frumpy, and lumpy. Second try (#1), which was what I ended up wearing, was a lot better with a shorter, fitted jacket. </p> <p>This dress is a lot more green IRL than in the photos - it's like a true, super saturated emerald green. My camera hates it.</p> <p>Anthro dress, Ines Raspoort blazer, Gap leggings, Frye boots. </p>
