Laura - Yes! I have a ponte blazer, too, and I really love it. The one here is 97% cotton/ 3% spandex, so it's not super-stretchy. Just enough.

Really nice and the proportions are great on you. The stretch factor is why I fell in love with ponte blazers when they arrived on the scene a couple years ago. I have some embarrassingly large number of them now.

Great to see the ditsy bird blouse in action! This is a great outfit, casual yet pulled-together. Sounds like it was practical for your day, too.

A great formula! This is a very nice smart casual look. Good idea to use a stretch blazer with the woven top; having one of those items stretchy goes a long way, and certainly gives you more range of motion than both not-stretchy (less comfy that both stretchy but more structured and polished looking). Agree that silk can be quite durable, as long as the quality is at least decent. I know your wardrobe is smaller but perhaps it's worth having that one delicate pretty blouse for less active days? LOVE seeing that cheerful yellow paired with olive, a favorite of mine and not one I see often.

abc - The Eddie Bauer blazer can be difficult to style (at least for me) because it's such a classic cut in a very casual fabric, but it is beautifully made, especially given the price. It's unlined, but all the seams are bound, and pretty much everything is double-stitched.

Hey! I want a stretch blazer, thanks for the find, now I know where to look.

I echo Angie's comment, you wear earth tones so well.

I am with you too, I struggle with the way some blouses feel when layered over. I think part of it is me and my tolerance level. Sounds like you are kinda the same.

Elly - Definitely not in my head. I could see some slight fabric pulling at the back seam after a single day of wear (I stabilized it with some fray check). Every silk blouse I've ever owned has eventually died from a tear. :(

Now, the silk skirts and pants I wore in my belly dancing days definitely were surprisingly durable, so I know it's really just a matter of fabric quality/weight.

Great outfit-- it also might be in your head-- if you haven't been wearing light silks the need to "protect" delicate fabric may be ingrained. Silk is surprisingly durable.

WL - It's definitely been a problem for me in trying things on. These Lucky tops are blousy enough, it's not too much of an issue, but I think I've tried a dozen polka dot button-downs and they've all felt constrictive.

Another winner!

I think the lack of stretch is (part of) what has me avoiding woven fabrics for tops.

My layering formula #4 is a cotton blazer over a silk blouse.

It was 48/9° when I left the house for coffee with friends yesterday morning, and 86/30° by the time I left the school after volunteering for the afternoon. (Photos were taken in the HS... that mirror on the brick wall takes me right back.)

I forgot to take a photo without the blazer, but I spent all day in and out of the topper, dependent on whether I was outdoors/indoors and in heat or AC. The long sleeve silk blouse was perfectly comfortable, even in the hottest outdoor weather after school, and everything stayed breathable with the layers on. Almost perfect.

My one issue with this outfit was that the top felt a little precious. It was comfortable, but the silk is very light and I didn't feel like I could be all that active in it. I'm sure I'll still wear this a lot, but I think, in the future, I should look for high-quality silk blends with a small stretch content.
