These are all nice. I like to wear graphic tees and cardigans as well. It was one of my favorite outfits last winter. I think the striped dress and denim jacket in #4 looks great. Too bad the dress is getting too big (although congratulations on the wieght loss). The red shoes are cute with it.

Angie - Thank you! I was relieved the Boden blazer still fit well after I'd waited so long to actually wear it. I'd also noticed the denim jacket in #4 was a little boxier than I thought. I think that was one of those things where I clicked on my usual size rather than my new actual size. Replacing it isn't in the budget at the moment, but I'll keep my eye out for something that's a bit more fitted.

Joy - Thank you! Alas, I am shrinking out of the striped dress, though it's not so obvious when I wear it with a topper. (It's a little loose around the waist, but getting quite loose around the armholes.) I really like it, though -- it even has pockets! -- so I'll have to keep an eye out for a replacement. Fortunately there are a lot of black and white striped dresses out there.

Rachylou - I wasn't sure about the necklace, so thanks for the feedback! I kept trying things that didn't quite work, which is maybe a sign I should have just gone without one entirely. :)

I think #3 and 4 really come together. The tee in #1 and the blazer in #2 - those are great pieces. I maybe wouldn't wear a necklace that so closely echoes the tee's neckline in #1. The white blazer, reminds me of an outfit of Jessica Alba's. She's was doing white jackets/tops, black bottoms, which I thought looked fantastic...

You have a wonderful way of putting things together. You look especially good in skirts. That one is my favorite outfit

Your reasoning for prefering jeans to trousers makes complete sense. You might like to try pants styles that are high in the waist with ease in the thighs like upscale joggers. Those tend to fit quite well.

I like the proportions in #3. If you wanted to extend the leg line, black high vamped footwear is a good option. Semi tucking the top would also lengthen the leg line from the hips up.

The pointy flats in #4 look lovely with the skirt. You might be shrinking out of that denim jacket too.

#2 is great. Nice blazer fit.

Some casual and work outfits from the last week:

#1: Afternoon for a lazy Sunday - ran errands, took a walk, read a book. I am highly amused by my new t-shirt, which I think of as my stealth crazy cat lady shirt. From far away, it looks like an abstract pattern. Up close, kitties! The outfit needs a bit more color for spring/summer, I think, but this was fine for what I recall being a gray day. Threadless tee, Eddie Bauer cardi, LE jeans.

#2: Weekday work outfit, and first outing of my Boden Blenheim blazer. I ordered this late last summer, but returns to get the correct size took forever and then it was fall. I don't mind wearing white in winter, but the broderie felt more like a spring/summer material. The pants are getting pretty loose at the waist and will need replacement sometime this year, but I'm trying to hold off until fall for budgetary reasons. Boden blazer, old Loft shell, old Gap pants.

#3: Saturday work outfit. I work the occasional weekend, and I tend to be a little more casual on those days since I don't generally have important meetings. I felt great in this outfit, even though I don't think it photographed as well. It was airy and comfortable and fun. Loft cardi, J Crew blouse, LE pants.

#4: Sunday (today) work outfit. Finishing off the weekend with a Target striped dress, ON denim jacket, and cute red shoes from Sole Society. The shoes don't have a ton of support, so I think of them as half-day shoes rather than full-day shoes. Lucky our Sundays are half-days!

I find myself in the fortunate (but expensive) position of needing new pants again soon-ish due to continued weight loss. This is partly because I've lost more weight since I last purchased them in the fall. One thing I've realized is that I should always try on one more size down, since I tend to reach for one that's too big. I didn't do that last time, and it meant my recent purchases didn't last as long as they could have.

Another thing I've realized is that it's actually easier for me (who is hourglass/pear-shaped) to buy skinny pants/jeans than trouser fits. This was totally counterintuitive for me, but here's why. When I try on skinny pants/jeans with stretch, I can find some that fit at the waist and hips because they're supposed to be fit closley at my thighs. In contrast, trouser cuts are supposed to skim over the thigh, and to achieve that with my thighs, I generally need to size up, which almost always means the waist is too big and will need alteration or belting.

Comments/ideas/suggestions welcome!
