JAileen, thanks! The sweater/jacket is moderately heavy because of the leather, which I think is what gives it the nice slouchy drape. It has more of the weight of a thick leather jacket than what one would think of for a sweater. It's warm, but because of the loose knit it's not as warm as a regular jacket would be. Which is perfect for SoCal cooler weather (low to mid 60's or so, worn over either a longer sleeve shirt or sweater).

ironkurtin, thanks! I can guarantee you would not want my curly hair once you experience humid weather for the first time (to say it goes all "frizz-ball" would be a massive understatement! ;-)

Liz A. Thanks! The green boots are by Lucky (bought them several years ago on Zappos because I loved the color and style. They are super comfy and perfect for airport travel as well because of the easy zip on/off on the side, instead of having to untie them.

As to the hair... for years I've been using those long stretchy circular combs to pull it up and back (essentially, piling it all on top of my head). I used to be able to pick them up at the drugstore but it seems they don't carry them anymore so now I get them on Amazon. They're great for "no-styling will help" hair like mine (the more you attempt to style it the more it just turns frizzy). Here's a link: http://www.amazon.com/gp/produ.....8;pf_rd_s=

alaskagirl, my love of the unusual extends to belts as well and I have several dragon, snake, skull and otherwise odd belts. I actually love how the gold dragon one looks styled over a simple tunic and skinnies with gold sandals in the summer.

What Torontogirl said. I couldn't imagine this as a look and then you did it.

But let's talk about the DRAGON BELT. Apparently I have missed out on a world of items I could only imagine!

I have to admit, at the first photo I wasn't sure how you would make the sweater work, but did you ever pull it off with style! What a unique and amazing outfit. The hunter green is beautiful on you. You show great style and originality and confidence!

I love the look you ended up with LL. I do really love the look of the green boots, yet they may have darkened your outfit too much, so I glad you went with the lighter option. I think you have a penchant for some of the colours I like also Your belt, necklace and ring are fab btw.

Those green boots are TDF. I want them on my feet right now. But I do like the light boots with your outfit.

Off Topic: How do you pull your hair up like that? Not sure my chunky waves would do that, but I'd like to try.

I like the outfit with the light shoes. I think you were correct in choosing them out as they bring out more of the colors from the sweater. Cool hands belt too, and I also agree that that would have been too much.

I really love how you've styled all this. It's a jump away from my style but you carry it off beautifully. Also, I wish I had curly hair.

The pendant is really cool! Your sweater sounds really interesting. Is it warm? Is it heavy? I don't have a sense of what something knitted from leather is like. The colors are really pretty.

So around a week ago I posted a few photos of some of my flea market finds that Sunday, including this vintage 80's knit sweater/jacket in my beloved earth tones. What sold me on it was:

it was "my colors"

I loved the slouchy look and how it draped (even though it is clearly too large/oversized on me it is not overly long on my petite frame)

it was quite weighty so it would work well as a warmth layer

the fact that it is woven entirely out of strips of leather!!! I looooove leather

it was cheap

Yesterday, after getting it back from the cleaners, I wore it to the office. I initially thought I'd go with the whole simple column-of-color look to counteract the oversized/slouchy effect of the sweater. I wore a long sleeve hunter green t-shirt under it and paired it with a pair of hunter green wax coated skinny jeans and a pair of deep green chunky heel, lace up boots.

When I put it on I felt like, even though the woven leather sweater is a bit of a "statement piece" because of the fringes and material, the outfit felt unfinished. I then tried a pale belt and pale boots. I didn't like the belt because the vintage clasping hands buckle on the belt were just "too much" when combined with the sweater.

I did like the pale boots, though, even though it broke up the column-of-color effect. I thought the lighter beige and taupe of the boot brought out the same colors in the sweater (and I like the fact these boots look a bit like WWI military boots). So the pale boots stayed even though the green boots were probably more flattering in terms of leg-lengthening effect. Ultimately I decided on a darker brown vintage belt. Which I thought made the outfit look complete but didn't visually chop me in half.

I've included photos of both the belt and boots that "didn't make the cut" and the original photo of the sweater on hanger when I brought it home from the flea market.

So what do you think? Should I have stuck with the green boots or do the pale boots work even though they're not as conventionally flattering?

Either way I knew the pale, clasping hands belt was a definite no, but provided a photo anyway of it (where it hangs out on one of my antique dress forms when not in use because it is a freakin' cool vintage belt). When I wear it, though, I usually keep everything else super simple and let it be the center of attention (ignore the vintage gold dragons belt above it. That was never an outfit contender with this outfit. It just hangs out on the same dress form with the hands belt).

Vintage knitted leather sweater: via flea market
Hunter green long sleeved tee: Splendid (via Zappos)
Hunter green wax coated skinny jeans: Juicy Couture (via consignment)
Leather and Suede boots: Restricted (NWT via ebay for a whopping $25! Woot!)
Enameled Cicada Bug pendant necklace: vintage thrifted (although some new retailers are now reproducing this design. The new ones are really tinny and cheaply made compared to the original)
Wood & Brass Nouveau Style Ring: Jan Michaels (via flea market at same time as I bought the sweater)
Copper Earrings: via Artist's boutique in SF years ago
Washed leather messenger bag: Campomaggi (via ebay)
