Yes, I think my hair might be a combination of different curl patterns - so frustrating, lol! Haha I know how you feel - I'm now slightly regretting cutting my waist length hair to ear length at the end of 2017. I'm still paying for it with the sloooww growback!

You are so glorious in vintage and vintage-inspired finds. A great example of personal style and the timelessness of the best garments and silhouettes!

I'm particularly enjoying the quilted circle skirts (I've never seen one of these in person) and the hair conversation on the thread!

No worries, I completely understand! I like "swavy"; the Long Hair community also has "wavies" and "wurlies" because there's so many variations in curl patterns! And "long" is definitely subjective. In the US "long" used to be anything below bra strap, but now thanks to influencers/widespread use of extensions, longer than waist length hair is having a moment. I'm slightly irked since mine is MINE and it took a while to get here! :p Feel free to message any time if that would be easier to direct questions. Hair is fun but does require attention.

Ooh thanks for the links - guess I've got my 'internet rabbithole' reading sorted for this Valentine's Day weekend!

Yeah I have to be extra careful not to cause tangles or damage since I have 'swavy' hair (wavy in the front like yours, curly ringlets at the ends) & so I follow a modified CGM (curly girl method) too. My terminal hair length is waist length, so not 'too' long (though I'm learning even that's culturally subjective - especially in a place like HK, where many women wear pixies & bobs!) Don't think it's quite thick or long enough for the nautilus bun now though It's pretty though!

Anyway, thanks again for indulging me on this hair rant - it's not often I see people with a similar hair type to mine & *actually* know what to do with it, lol. Sorry for the thread hijack!

The hair forks I use the most are from 60th Street on Etsy. They post new items regularly, and occasionally listing for custom orders. I use 4-prong forks since they work best for holding larger but looser buns fairly well. There are many other hair fork/hair stick makers from around the world.

For how to use them, search YouTube. There's a whole community of long-hair people who've come up with ways to put up hair that doesn't damage it and uses minimal hair pins. A number of people have out a series of videos showing how to do various buns. I would search for "nautilus bun," find a youtuber whose style you like, and look at the other videos they've made. You can use pencils or chopsticks before buying more "hair toys."

Be warned - sometimes these buns take some pretty long hair to do! The thicker the hair, the more length is necessary. If you really want to dive deep, the Long Hair Community forum is the motherlode. It's been around for at least 20 years but is still very active. The resources are good, and if links are broken because of age, just google for the style you want to see.

Ooh thanks for the tips - I need to get more creative with my hair! Since hair bobbles/ bands hurt, I just either leave it out or use a claw clip lol. Time to learn some better tricks before the sticky, humid summer arrives!

Thank you, Erin!

Zaeobi, I usually pull back/up the front hair with Grip-Tuth combs. It's a name brand that holds amazingly well. I got mine on Amazon. Then I put the rest of my hair up in a twisted or looped bun of some kind and secure it with a large Ficcare clip or hair "fork." The exception is #14, since I had just curled my hair the night before. I used the combs, but then just gathered the curls and clipped the bundle higher on the back of my head. The rest of the length hung down and I bobby pinned them here and there to keep them from being too long.

The cardigans are from Emmy Design Sweden. I love their aesthetic and colors!

I like the first Amazon dress in particular - & where did you get the cropped cardigans? Great 50s silhouettes.

#13 skirt in detail. This is true vintage from the 1950s. No label, so it may be homemade. The print is a fantasy floral, since there are multiple kinds of leaves on various branches. Plus a hidden bird. The colors are bright baby blue and pink, toned down with cool light brown and gray-lavender. It’s very challenging to coordinate. Because it is corduroy, the backing seems to have very little loft to it. The corduroy itself and the quilting stitching give it plenty of body.

I love this skirt! It’s one of the reasons I made my navy and green skirts, although they aren’t quilted and aren’t quite full circles.

Bringing this up again to thank everyone for your responses. This is encouraging, as I'm both Doing My Own Thing in a very traditional way! A few mentions:

Rachy, I never dreamed quilted garments were so fantastic until I got my first of these skirts; they're warm and light but also voluminous! I have a fit-and-flare housecoat, too. Your Christmas dress sounds dreamy.

Synne, it's fascinating that you see an older era in my clothing. I've been honing my style for a while, so it must be subconscious at this point! Can you elaborate? I'm really curious.

Mary Beth, Vera-Ellen is a goal! She wore those styles so well. I've tried the turtleneck look, but it's not warm enough on me alone, and looks stifling when layered. The #13 skirt is an impressionistic floral, printed on corduroy of all things. I'll take a detailed picture, since it's hard to describe. And actually very hard to coordinate with.

MsMaven, I'm honored to remind you of your mother. I've had a few comments from elderly men, that I remind them of their departed wives. I get all choked up. <3

kellygirl, part of why I got into vintage is that it fits me better than current clothes. Sewing patterns as well. I still have to pick the right style; full skirts are necessary. But my upper body is pretty small-boned (shoulders, ribs, and waist) so I luck out. As long as the garment isn't actually petite!

Bijou, I fall more in love with that coat each time I wear it! The sleeves hang so beautifully, I had to document the crazy seaming that makes them work. And the #13 skirt is a treasure. I'm going to take a detail picture for Mary Beth in a little bit. It's a little too small in the waist but I moved the button slightly and it still works, whew!

Ginger, what an amazing collection of outfits. I can see why the shop assistant was sad to see you in jeans when you normally wear clothes like this! The coats are beautiful and fit so perfectly. I love how you have shown the sleeve detail on the red coat - the construction is amazing. #13 is perfection! The quality of the skirt is stunning. I love your collection of pretty cardigans in gorgeous colours and just the right length to show of those statement skirts and your tiny waist.

What a breath of fresh air you are! I look at your photos and can't help but smile! Radiant and fresh in every one (you have lovely complexion too btw.) You make vintage pieces shine and they look authentic to your style. Do you find vintage clothes difficult to fit? Not exactly vintage, but I remember trying on my mother's wedding dress when I was maybe 13 and 90# and couldn't even zip it--actually, it zipped but only because it tore away from the fabric...

Hands-down, though, #13 was my favorite, because of the skirt. What is the pattern? At first glance, I thought it was a pine/boxwood print.
