Yes, I realized it wasn't EF as soon as I typed it . Oh well. And I do get that the sweater may not work with skirted leggings either - which is exactly the trouble with classic cut knits. Not versatile enough.

Jewel tone sister, you're looking terrific (and I love the hug photo)!
I think the sweater in #2 might work better with:
1. a jacket topper
2. a semi-tuck
3. paired with white or light grey/light denim
4. scrunched sleeves and statement necklace.

Love the bright coat!

Thanks Suz and Diane!

Kkards, wearing that sweater with white is a great idea... I tend not to wear much white on the bottom in the winter, purely because the hemlines I have in white jeans aren't ones I can tuck in easily. But I will definitely keep that in mind for a drier day. And maybe pull out my turquoise booties too.

Lisa, thanks. It does feel good to know it's not just me (and Deborah ). You made a comment the other day about plaid flannel shirts being too "normal" for you, that really resonated. I got rid of my "normal" cardigans a while ago, perhaps it's time to evaluate my pullover sweaters as well. I used to be SO "normal". I guess I've moved on! This particular sweater isn't really long enough to wear with skirted leggings, unfortunately. Although maybe with the Motto ones... which are more skirt like... Hmm.... worth a try! Oh, and that sweater isn't EF, it's Halogen... far more affordable :). Keep an eye out at NAS next year!

Aida's suggestions are great - and yes, put the #2 sweater with your skirted leggings and OTK boots and add some jewellery at your neckline that reads really funky and modern. Because the colour is beautiful on you, I agree.

Haven't read all the comments yet, but I did notice Deborah's and I'm in the same camp with the two of you. I look like some sort of I-dont-know-what in classic knitwear. "Normal" sweaters don't like me and I don't like them. If you ever see me in a classic merino wool pullover or cardigan, please intervene because I'm off my medication. It takes a certain body type and look to wear them, and I'm glad it's not just me. I do like your layering looks, and those are new to me (seeing you in them). The all-ink (I too thought it was black) is super - love, love , love it. And I'm very envious of your EF asymetric sweaters. I need these! I love them every time you post them.

not usually a lover of brights with black, but you've done it really well, esp love how you've accessorized the brights in #5!
i like #2, but i'd love to see it with white denim….imo, i think it will take it from "fine", to unexpected (yes, i know that those of us on YLF, don't think of white as unexpected in winter, but IRL, i find it still strikes others as such) and can take a "fine" outfit to another level.

I understand that #2 may not be your favorite style-wise, but I LOVE that color on you. In fact, I was so impressed by all of your color choices -- you really know what looks great on you! Seems to me you could just put the sweater of #2 with the bottom half of #7 and you'd have a winner. The scarf from #1 wouldn't be out of place there, either -- tho maybe still too classic for you?

I really like your style. And the hug picture is so adorable!
My guess on the sweater is that it's too classic for you - your style has an element of edgy-ness that this sweater doesn't have. Just compare how great you look with the pink asimmetrical sweater.
I'd try wearing the cashmere sweater (the color is great on you) under a blazer or a moto jacket, with no shirt underneath. And some edgy footwear.

Wow, hard to pick a favorite! You've given me so much inspiration here. Love what you've done with the skirted leggings, and love how you incorporate white into many of your outfits. The clear colors you choose work very well with your hair and coloring.

Pic 1 drew me in because you look so absolutely fab in white!! But pic 4 is my favorite. That outfit just blows me away. Lots going on with it, and it all works fabulously.

Elizabeth, these are great! The color of #2 is fab. What if you paired it with the jeans from 8, ditched the collared shirt, and added the Stella and dot pendant? Would still be simple, but maybe a little more relaxed ... ? Your DD photobomb takes the cake!

Thanks Aida, those are excellent suggestions. I will play. Some mornings I just grab whatever... I realized this is an FFBO for me, from a few years ago. I doesn't feel right any more.

Deborah, you are so wise. I think you are right on. What a revelation! I'll play with some of Aidas suggestions, but maybe it's time to move the "nice" things on. Wow. The weather isn't really up and down, but spending hours on the balcony of a pool really does need summer clothing. My "synchro capsule" :)

Peri, I sure hope scarves aren't "out"! I don't wear them as often as I like, but they really complete some outfits.

Elizabeth I am finding I cannot where classic or conservative knitwear. I, and I think you also, need an added point of interest. An asymmetric hemline, or an uneven hemline, a split at the back or sides etc. That sweater in #2 is "nice" but nice isn't a word I attribute to your style;)

Like them all of course...but have to nod to #1 as my favorite because I am all over scarves and we are finally getting the weather to wear them.

I was going to do a post showing my scarf WIWs of recent days to ask if they are dated. I was sort of wondering because I just don't see many WIWs with scarves anymore. Then I decided...I probably didn't want the answer and I just didn't care!! I love them and I still feel happy to wear them, so I will. I think one perk of being 50 something is the right to not stay right on top of trends, so if the scarf trend is over, too bad!

So yay, back to you, glad to see you wearing a scarf!

Hmm I don't think you should try and un-classic a classic sweater by adding classic elements To me, if you wanted to keep this lovely cashmere piece, you need to pair with something from your trendy/arty side: kick crops (like the jeans in #8 + python booties), flares (when it's weather appropriate of course), slouchy soft pants, printed fun pants, moto jacket, over a sheer/semi-sheer soft loooong layer, etc. Straight legs/skinnies + boots/booties is pretty mainstream classic, and popping over a shirt is a preppy classic. That's probably why you feel a little off in it.

FUN to see lots of happy color! You look brilliant in navy/ink. #1, 6, 7, 10, and 13 really stand out for me. #8 was a total shock after all the wintery looks!

Thanks April. I do like the colour of this sweater, and it's cashmere, so is super cozy. But the style is VERY classic, which is why I wonder maybe if it's just not me. I find whenever I try to do the layered button down thing, the underneath shirt doesn't look long enough. I will try this with the one and only top that does seem to show enough shirt out the bottom. I like your other ideas... scarf and/or necklace.

Love all except #2, where I share your sense that it's not quite up to your level of fabness. Especially love #5 -- so sweet.

Let's see if we can figure out what has gone amiss with #2 before Angie chimes in and we go "DUH -- of course that's why! How come I didn't see that straightaway?"

I guess I would say that the sweater just doesn't look special. The color is great, but the length and style look ordinary in kind of a gear-ish way.

How could we rescue it? Infinity scarf covering the neckline area? A slightly longer and more floaty shirt beneath (untucked, as you have it, but a bit more of it)? Statement necklace?

We had a crazy weekend last weekend, which is the time I generally can squeeze in a post. So here's two weeks worth... photo overload! What I like about this is that I can see that I am wearing more colour than I probably was this time last year. This is a good thing.

1. OOF, but I think you can see the general shape of this.
2. I do not like this... it feels very "meh". I just don't seem to be able to wear "normal" sweaters. Sigh. Any ideas? Or is it just not my style?
3-4. To a conference/meetings. Took the wrap in case it was drafty, but it wasn't.
5. Photobombed for a hug :). Had to forgive her tracking snow though the whole house!
6. Second day of the conference/meetings... this is all ink, not black.
7. To watch a bit of synchronized swimming.... ie it's hot there!
8. A whole day at the pool. Loved the chance to bring this top out to play again :)
9. To work. My DH told me he "loved my get-up". Men!
10. A day in the office, no meetings, so went comfy and casual.
11. Work.
12-13. First time this year with this dress, not sure why, I loved wearing it! I wore the BR coat, first time in a while as it's been too cold. Got 8 compliments, 3 from total strangers. Must wear it more often!
14. Out to dinner with the family. Motto skirted leggings as it was snowing and I needed whatever was on the bottom to be firmly tucked into winter boots.

Comments on anything and everything welcome!
