<p>ShipsKitty, I’ve read a couple of the books, but it was years ago. I need to try the series again. I just love seeing a different world come to life via the tv series. And there aren’t many Aussie-set shows that make it to the States, so that’s nice too!<div><br /></div><div>Thank you Sharon!</div><div><br /></div><div>Astrid, I hope your silk dress arrives soon. It’s definitely an addictive fiber, as is wool, and I’m pretty sure I’m going to develop a linen addiction soon too. hehe</div><div><br /></div><div>Gryffin, I love smocking too, and you’re right that it’s sadly rare. There’s definitely a bit of similarity between Phryne &amp; Amelia; the first season of the show even has an ancient Egyptian themed plot in one episode.</div><div><br /></div><div>Aww, thnx TexStyle! I made sure my cropping kept her in this time. I hope February treats you better too!</div><div><br /></div><div>Thank you Ornella; these trousers are SO warm too. I didn’t realise just how warm until I ventured out in regular cotton skinnies &amp; a shorter coat; even with silk long johns underneath, my thighs were horrified. lol I hope you can watch the show!</div><div><br /></div><div>RachyLou, these are Ralph Lauren trousers, so it doesn’t surprise me they’d be right at home in a preppy ensemble! You made me laugh as always!</div><div><br /></div><div>Nebraskim, cheeky’s a great description for it. :)</div><div><br /></div><div>Thank you Missey!</div><div><br /></div><div>Tanya, thank you! The forum has definitely helped encourage me to embrace my feminine side more blantantly than I used to. hehe</div><div><br /></div><div>Thnx Avicennia! My off white capsule is sadly small, but I do have some blush skinnies that I can try it with. I believe they’re filming a third season, although I’m not positive.</div><div><br /></div><div>Thank you for all of the kind words Frannie! I’m glad you enjoy my posts. After mainly relying on b&amp;m thrifting, Ebay feels almost like cheating, as it’s so much easier to find just what I’m looking for. Of course, the fit risks are higher, but luckily sellers are usually happy to take all kinds of measurements for me, which I compare to my current clothes.</div><div><br /></div><div>Thank you so much Isabel! I try hard to stay out of costume territory (most of the time), so I appreciate your feedback. :)</div><div><br /></div><div>Thank you Angie!!! I’m sorry I can’t participate regularly all of the time; I love your forum. And the specific feedback is much appreciated, as is the pup comparison! :)</div><div><br /></div><div>Jackie, it’s a very fun show!</div><div><br /></div><div>Thank you Suz. I actually prefer the cold when I’m sick, as I end up spending quite a bit of time on heating pads, which is more pleasant when you actually *want* to be warmed up. lol And the snow just makes me so happy; I love watching it fall out of my window when I’m bed or chair bound!</div><div><br /></div><div>Thnx Beth Ann! I love that phrase, vim &amp; vigor: I’ll keep repeating it to myself like an incantation. :)</div><div><br /></div><div>Thank you for the styling suggestions Kiwigal: I think it will be fun to remix! And I agree that the fabric is just lovely; I felt very lucky to score it from Ebay!</div><div><br /></div><div>Thnx Approprio. I love period menswear as well, so I’m not sure which actor you were referencing in that link (I don’t watch the show), but they all looked wonderful. I’ll have to go back &amp; see if I missed some posts of yours inspired by the period!</div><div><br /></div><div>Jenny, yay for more Phryne fans! :)</div><div><br /></div><div>Ruth, I have chronic illnesses, so I’m used to being under the weather at this point, although I still haven’t gotten used to how it makes me less reliable. Oh well! My neck doesn’t get cold easily (I run warm except for my hands &amp; feet), so I was fine both inside and outside without any neckwear, since I buttoned my coat all the way up to the top, and this was a couple weeks ago so it was in the high 20s/low 30s and a still day. I do wear a scarf when it drops below that, or if it’s at all windy! I hate cold wind sneaking into my coat! &nbsp; And yep, Thistle knows the routine at this point. Although she clearly never understands why I need to stand around looking at the black box before heading out! hehe</div><div><br /></div><div>The show does a great job with all of the characters’ costumes, although they’re not as flamboyant as Phryne’s. The sets are great too; it’s really a feast for the eyes!</div><div><br /></div><div>Thank you Roxanna; I hope you enjoy it. :)</div>

<p>Sorry you haven't been well, and I hope&nbsp;you're feeling a lot better now. </p>
<p>I wasn't aware of the Miss Fisher Murder Mysteries - I've been missing out, to judge from the 2 photos you added.&nbsp; She looks elegant, and so do you.&nbsp; Your silk blouse is gorgeous with its smocking and pretty print. You wear the wide scalloped collar well. My neck would have frozen, but I guess you probably added a scarf or shrug for warmth.</p>
<p>It's cute that your doggie doesn't budge from her observation post until you've put on your coat and shoes - she clearly reads the signs!</p>

<p>You have done a fab interpreting her style for yourself. Well done. You look great!

<p>Beautiful! Proportions are spot on and the combination of the blouse with the pants evokes the era perfectly&nbsp;without looking like costume.&nbsp;</p>
<p>I've also been looking at costume drama for inspiration. My current icon is <a rel="nofollow" href="http://www.manners.nl/de-kapsels-en-outfits-van-de-peaky-blinders/">Peaky Blinders kingpin&nbsp;Thomas Shelby,</a>&nbsp;as portrayed by&nbsp;the devastatingly handsome Cillian Murphy.
</p>
<p>Hope you feel better soon.</p>

<p>I love the blouse, such a stunning fabric. &nbsp;I think it goes perfectly with the wide leg trousers, although it could also work with capri type pants or one of your fuller skirts.</p>
<p>Take care and hoping for a better February.</p>

<p>The waist definition is more subtle than a cinched waist but still very apparent, even without motion, wool and silk drape differently. You've distilled&nbsp;the style&nbsp;and left out a lot of the nostalgia which would've made it more costume-y or "period piece".<span>&nbsp;Beautiful combination of texture, print and color, lovely, lovely, outfit.<br />..and adorable companion..</span>

<p>E - Hoping February will be a better month for you.&nbsp; Wonderful outfit.&nbsp; Lovely print and smocking.&nbsp; Sad you don't see much smocking any more.&nbsp; I've never heard of the books for show but it sounds wonderful.&nbsp; Sounds like Amelia Peabody reincarnated!!&nbsp; What could be more fun!

<p>You've managed to capture the mood well! Lovely new blouse. I'm very much looking forward to that silk dress I've ordered and I've certainly become a wool junkie. So I can relate to the craving for even more lovely fabrics...</p>
<p>I hope February will be better for you health wise.</p>
<p>And it seems as if I have more books to put on my list.

<p>Gorgeous blouse and I love the way you have styled it. Definitely channelling Phryne. She is a favourite in our house, too.

<p>I love this outfit and think you have done a lovely job of capturing the flavour of Phryne's outfits.&nbsp;</p>
<p>I also LOVE Phryne Fisher. Also as a heads-up if you didn't realise the tv series was based on a series of&nbsp;books by Kerry Greenwood you should do yourself a favour and check them out. While the&nbsp;TV series was very good (and how gorgeous is Essie Davis!)&nbsp;the books are better IMHO.

<p>Apologies for disappearing again! I'll try to get more consistent with my participation, but my illnesses seem determined to thwart me. Hopefully February will go better. :)</p>
<p>Anyway, these photos are from last week. I fell in love with the Miss Fisher's Murder Mystery show when it first showed up on Netflix; it's set in the Melbourne of the late 1920s and features Miss Phryne Fisher, a 'lady detective' of independent means&nbsp;whose enjoyment of mischief is only equalled by her wish to help people and advance feminist causes.&nbsp;&nbsp;;) She came into her wealth late in life and now greatly enjoys indulging herself with a beautiful bohemian wardrobe full of drapey fabrics cut impeccably to fit her body. The show is full of sumptuous sets, marvelous acting, and is just a wonderful example of what television can achieve. The second season arrived on Netflix a few months ago, and ever since I've been craving even more silk in my life. So for my November thrifting money, I ended up getting 2 drapier silk blouses from Ebay: this floral one being the first. I thought the pattern and cut leant itself well to boho luxe, and the pattern reminded me of the types of florals Phryne wears (I added a couple of pics).</p>
<p>It's chilly around here, so I paired it with cosy wool trousers. Usually, I'd have tucked it in for extra waist definition, but Phryne Fisher and her 20s silhouettes made me opt for the more subtle option.&nbsp; Now, I love this blouse, and my sister loved it too (I brought it with me on my trip back home), but I don't think it's photographing that well. In real life, the fabric is cut on the bias, and along with the princess seams, it gives me just enough waist definition&nbsp;to be flattering. Movement is tricky to capture in a camera though.&nbsp; As the sleeves don't cover all of my arm, I pulled on some alpaca mitts I knit last year; these came on and off throughout the day depending on how my arms felt: looking at the pictures, I think I should have opted for a more delicate pair of mitts. Luckily I have those for next time! Believe it or not, those sleeves actually fit under some of my cardigans and all of my jackets too, so lots of layering possibilities for the future. I wanted to echo the beautiful colours of the flowers in my socks, but I didn't have any that matched perfectly, so instead I stuck with the jewel tone theme and wore my burgundy ones. The blouse didn't seem to need a brooch, and the mitts made bracelets &amp; rings pointless, so my only accessory was a simple barrette in my hair. I thought I'd lost these in my move, but I recently turned them up, so I'm looking forward to having an option other than bobby pins!</p>
<p>For outerwear, I needed to wear my navy bean boots, so I 'bookendeded' them with my navy coat. Only the burgundy beret really ties into my outfit underneath, but oh well! I was warm, which is the most important thing anyway.</p>
<p>This is a newer silhouette for me; I'm playing around more with drape &amp; wider leg trousers these days, instead of always opting for a cinched waist to balance the volume on bottom. Does this fall into the just-flattering-enough camp or should I tuck it in future? All feedback, criticism, etc.&nbsp;welcome as always!
