<p>Yes - that's right, and you wear slim trousers well (and trousers, generally)&nbsp;and a coat with long vertical lines like this one, and so on. I do note that you like rounded details (like collar shape and necklines) and those look nice on you. I think you are a blend, but not round-faced.&nbsp;</p>
<p>I do have that book but have not read it yet. I have it on a CD and need to plug in a drive to look at it. I have looked at the instructor manual, though, so I have some idea of the categories for analysis. It's interesting.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Lol! I definitely don't have Snow White colouring, I know that. Most of the colour reading I've done is about the 12 seasons, so no soft winter, but I can see that too. (Speaking of colours on that show, don't you wish Emma would get rid of that super light blonde hair?! She looked so much better on House w the darker hair.)</p>
<p>Can't you write your dissertation on OUaT? I suppose that'd be more sociology than anthro. hehe

<p>Hmmm, I see where you're coming from, but I would go with a soft Winter.&nbsp; I think she's just slightly washed out in those muted colors, but again, I think that's on purpose, to emphasize her character's mild/sweet nature, and of course to contrast her with Regina and Ruby/Red.&nbsp; (By contrast you glow in those colors.)&nbsp; Of course she is young and gorgeous and could wear burlap and look fabulous, but I've seen her in much more saturated greens and purples and think WOW. Hee, we both want Snow White to be similar to our own coloring!&nbsp; And I've got to apply this analytical nature to the Dis!&nbsp; Not a fictional character!&nbsp; </p>

<p><div>MG, I agree that they use the softer colours to contrast MM with Regina, but we'll have to agree to disagree on whether she's a winter or summer! I've seen her in some other movies/tv shows, and I don't think she has as much natural contrast as they give her in OUaT. Her hair is definitely brown, not black (in regular life, I think they dye it for the show, which makes her look a little pale &amp; goth, not shining like a winter would), and there are lots of brunette summers. And she doesn't look like Ruby, who wears those bright reds so beautifully. As I've watched OUaT, I've begun to think she's actually a soft summer like me! So after your comment I went googling and found <a rel="nofollow" href="https://www.facebook.com/permalink.php?story_fbid=10150442302616975&amp;id=156368781974">this discussion</a>. Not that it matters terribly much in the end I suppose! hehe &lt;/colour nerdiness&gt;</div><div><br /></div><div>Emma's badass style is such fun! Too bad your jacket didn't work out; maybe you'll come across one that does. I could definitely see you as EMWW in a leather jacket.</div><div><br /></div><div>Gigi, thank you! I agree that there are different kinds of ruffles and bows, and some won't be fussy. But I'm curious about how other people perceive them, so I do need to get that thread going!</div><div><br /></div><div>Thanks Beth Ann! I love the fit of this sweater; in fact, I'm modelling the cardigan I'm knitting now (my first one) on it. :)</div><div><br /></div><div>Thank you Ceit!</div><div><br /></div><div>LeopardLuxe, I love blue-greens and blues, so I'm glad they love me back! hehe Yep, the brooch is a hedgehog; I got her for Christmas and she's made a few appearances since then. I forgot to be more specific because there are always new members!</div><div><br /></div><div>Thnx Claire! I plan to keep the coat forever; I'm not a purger at heart! I agree; for me fussiness has to do with constantly adjusting/fixing the outfit. Being aware of my clothes as it were. But I wonder what makes an outfit look fussy to others too.</div><div><br /></div><div>Astrid, I think your outfits could be described as feminine but not fussy! So it makes sense you like the phrase!</div><div><br /></div><div>Suz, thanks so much for the feedback! My mother's always telling me I have cheekbones, but all I usually see is broadness &amp; horizontal lines. hehe So it's interesting to get someone else's perspective. I definitely have a pointier chin, though and a widow's peak that echoes it (which is sadly invisible with a bob). I just had Triumph of Individual Style out from the library (an ILL so I can't get it again) and ended up thoroughly confused at all of the face analysis bits, so I just skipped them in the end. I think you have that book too? When I told Joy I can't wear structure/straight lines, I was thinking of crisp button downs and pencil skirts, both of which don't work that well for me. But I suppose pleats &amp; pintucks are straight lines too, even boxy blouses, as boxes are straight lines, of a different nature! If full skirts woudl be considered softened straight lines, you're on to something there. Lots to think about; thank you.</div><div><br /></div><div>Ramya, I'm sure you're not failing miserably! This sweater is a bit old-fashioned, due to its shape (big welt, but boxier body, shorter hem): perhaps that makes a difference? I like to include at least one 'old-fashioned' piece (one that feels vintage or retro or something similar) in every outfit, if that helps.</div>

<p>What a gorgeous outfit. You've interpreted your inspiration beautifully! And you also match your room.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Although I disagree about your face shape. I see a sweet, girlish (and sometimes implishly mischievous) smile, complete with adorable dimples (like your inspiration!) but I also see angles in your chin, forehead and indeed, your entire face! Plus, I think you wear straight lines very well -- as long as they are not severe and sharp. Softened straight lines, maybe? You like a bit of fluidity, but that doesn't go against the idea of straight lines. And "feminine" comes from that fluidity and also the "micro" touches -- textures, detailing of fabrics, accessories.&nbsp;

<p>Great outfit, E! The pants actually look really good on you, not too tight looking. And the coat is a great color for transitioning to&nbsp;spring!</p>
<p>I look forward to your thread on&nbsp;"feminine but not fussy." To me, ruffles and bows aren't inherently fussy. I would say it has to do with how many there are and how big they are...and also what they are paired with. I think a person could get away with pairing a ruffled top with some really streamlined pants, for ex.</p>

<p>Mary Margaret would definitely approve; you look utterly charming.</p>
<p>You know I was surprised the 1st time you said that character influenced your style so much b/c her coloring is so different than yours (she's definitely a Winter).&nbsp; The muted colors they dress her in are meant to make her look dowdy I think, since they fight her natural coloring.&nbsp; But they look fab on you.&nbsp; Even as Snow White they tend to put her in muted, forest colors - unless they've got her in pure white, which is of course brilliant on her.&nbsp; </p>
<p>Don't tell anyone but I might have bought a red leather jacket like Emma's the 1st season of the show.&nbsp; It totally didn't work out, so I sent it back, but it's still simmering in the back of my mind ...

<p><div>Thanks Catnip!</div><div><br /></div><div>Joy, I love your views on feminine but not fussy, and they make sense to me. Thinking about your WIWs, you have definitely perfected the look. I'll be studying your combinations evne more closely in the future! My body tends to do best with a bit of softness instead of structure/straight lines though.</div><div><br /></div><div>SarahtheWhite, that is so crazy about the jacket! Clearly we have similar tastes, even almost 8 years ago! hehe</div><div><br /></div><div>Thank you JAileen! It's definitely a blue-green colour, although I'm never sure what to name the different colours…perhaps a muted robin's egg instead of brighter/lighter/greener mint? It's in the same family as my walls &amp; the belt.</div><div><br /></div><div>Thanks Shevia!</div><div><br /></div><div>Aubergine, interesting how feminine but not fussy seems to resonate with many! It makes me wonder what 'fussy' is; if we all have different concepts of it or not. Perhaps I'll post a thread on that!</div><div><br /></div><div>Thnx Thistle!</div><div><br /></div><div>Ahem, for everyone who hasn't seen the show, it is on Netflix streaming for easy viewing. hehe If you enjoy fairy tales or shows with strong female leads&nbsp;(it passes the Bechdel test), I'd recommend giving it a try!</div>

<p>Never seen the show, but love both the original outfit and your interpretation! I also really like the idea of&nbsp;"feminine but not fussy." I think that's what I gravitate to naturally, actually.

<p>I'm not familiar with the show, but I love your outfit, especially your raincoat. In the pictures it comes across as kind of slate blue rather than mint. Either way.

<p>I am so excited! Mary Margaret would be so proud. You look great! Believe it or not, up until about a year ago, I had that exact same jacket - I bought it in 2006 from Target. I loved it, but let go of it because I just didn't use it... of course this winter in Florida I could have. I love it on you and am so glad you kept yours.

<p>Wow, you nailed the outfit. It was a light bulb moment when I realized that one could wear feminine but not fussy clothing. For me that means simple classic cuts in feminine fabrics and/or colors...like a white eyelet buttondown shirt rather than peasant blouse or floral print pencil skirt rather than tiered ruffle skirt. My curveless body can wear the simple structured lines. I hope that makes sense.

<p>Toronto Girl's <a rel="nofollow" href="http://youlookfab.com/welookfab/topic/inspired-by-karmyk---tv-style-role-models">TV characters&nbsp;thread</a>, and SarahtheWhite's answer, reminded me of how much I love Mary Margaret Blanchard's style in the show Once Upon a Time (played by Ginnifer Goodwin), especially in the first season. She tends to wear muted colours, mix textures (especially soft ones), and wear clothes that have some type of added interest (lace, embroidery, etc.). Her tops tend to be higher cut (she's a teacher), her skirts with knee length hemlines, and she wears a lot of flats.&nbsp; She also has a fabulous outerwear &amp; beret&nbsp;collection, as befits a woman who lives in Maine &amp; seems to walk everywhere! OUaT started playing in the fall of 2011, when I began focusing on 'tightening up' my style, so her dressing was quite influential (we have fairly similar body types and 'cute' round faces), helping me pinpoint what I love about clothes &amp; outfits, which in turn allowed me to narrow down my silhouettes to just a few uniforms.</p>
<p>So today I thought it'd be fun to be inspired by her! Googling Mary Margaret Blanchard style resulted in this photo as the first result, and as we happened to be having an overcast/possibly rainy day in the 70s/20-25C, it fit the weather. I have taupe skinnies quite similar to those shown, so that &amp; my grey oxfords were easy. I don't have that fabulous coat (peter pan collar! French blue!), but I do have a muted mint rain coat. I've had this coat since 2006, when I was still in college and found it on super clearance at Target. It was the only one left &amp; fit me perfectly (the photos don't show how good the fit is), and 7-8 years later I still love the colour and style.&nbsp; It's held up very well!&nbsp;I could just see a white top peeking out of the coat, so I finished things off with my only warm weather sweater, which is conveniently a soft white colour. This sweater is short enough that it could reveal my waistband, it seemed like a belt would be a good finishing touch. Luckily, I have this thin mint belt, which also let me keep the colour in the outfit even without the coat. It felt like a hedgehog day, so my brooch &amp; a silver bracelet &amp; ring provided the finishing touches.&nbsp;I actually left the house today so did wear the oxfords and coat for more than just photos. ;)</p>
<p>I felt marvelous in this outfit, although photographing it was frustrating (I swear the wrinkles in the trousers aren't that dramatic in real life...and they're definitely not too tight; I think it has to do with my posture &amp; the lighting in my room). I recently came across the phrase 'feminine but not fussy,' which quite resonated with me (it reminds me of the 'girly tomboy' idea, actually), and while I'm still pondering what that means (are ruffles and bows inherently fussy? I'm not sure), I do feel this outfit would qualify.</p>
<p>As always, comments &amp; suggestions/critiques welcome! Any other OUaT fans? All of the female characters in that show have fabulous style, both in the regular world and fairy tale world; the costume designer is clearly very talented.
