I, too, like your cardigan placement, silver & gray pairing, and the camisole detail. I'm not sure what to tell you re:neckline because that's just the sort of romantic piece I'd be drawn to and then fear I'd never wear for modesty!

The botanist in me could not go past your title.
I adore your homage to nature in this outfit. I love the quirky juxtaposition of lace with the geometry of the neckline.
Your colouring is softly enhanced by these woodland tones.
We used to call lichen "gnomes' knitting", cute hey?

I enjoyed reading your thought process so much. Both the inspiration outfit and the outfit are beautiful. I love the play with different shades and textures and although it sounds busy it's actually very calm, serene outfit because everything is in perfect tonal harmony.

Your WIWs are so engaging and I especially admire the quality of your photographs!! It shows that you are using a fine piece of equipment and with great skill.

You asked about the cami so here goes --
I would ditch the scarf as it doesn't really provide any more coverage to the cute lace cami. When wearing such a garment (cami) you need to embrace it. It's not vulgar especially on someone like you with such a trim figure. There's no cleavage or sideboob or anything. Sure you might get extra male glances but that happens wearing a skirt or tight jeans anyway.

Although I love how the scarf intellectually and color-wise ties into this outfit concept, and I also love how it looks in the close-up shots, when seen with the entire outfit it seems like that one extra item the French advise us to take off before leaving the house.

That looks like the perfect utility jacket. I like the slightly oversized look on you. The cinched waist keeps it looking fitted. Can't wait to see the updates.

I picked up a lichen covered branch the other day and was wishing I had the silvery green to bring the colors to life in and outfit. So happy to see these colors on you!

Stunning pictures, and I love how you translated them into an outfit.

For some reason, I'm wondering if a silky blouse of some kind might be another option for wearing under that lovely top. It might end up looking too busy, but I could also see it being a good match for the dressier feeling of the top.

I always wonder what to do about tops like that, too. This one is so pretty and I can really see how it reflects the inspiration. Gorgeous photos, by the way. And I like the skirt, as well. Looks suitably "woodsy" and also warm.

I think for at home wear the top is perfectly fine. Is it the kind of thing that could "peek out" from a closed blazer? Or would that not work? I'm not sure it ever works on me with my body shape -- maybe a person has to be bustier or round vs. elliptical for it to work...I've never really understood it. But worth a try, perhaps?

Alexandra, that's a good point about the cardigan. I left it further out so that the lace/embroidery detail wasn't covered up, but it does make things less modest! I love that you called it a demilitarised jacket. hehe

Carambola, thank you! I'm probably a bit too reliant on belts as a fit/style crutch, but oh well.

MG, those are interesting links! I will definitely keep them in mind when I'm shopping again. :) Really I should probably just donate the tops I find too low cut (they're all a couple of years old, so I must be getting more sensitive with age), but I can't part with the beautiful details. I'll have to try some of my layering tees underneath and see how that works out...it's tricky with this one because of the neckline detailing, so I can't just button a cardi up top without covering that up too. And it's so delicate, I'm guessing a regular cotton tee will look weird.

Lovely outfit as always, but what a stunning camisole! I often switch out the buttons on coats and jackets - can't wait to see your altered jacket. Also since you've mentioned wishing a necklines were higher a couple of times, I wonder if you'd like something like this to cover up the decolletage a bit:

E, another beautiful outfit! I love those colors on you. I like how you styled the cardigan away from the center front and used the scarf for a little extra coverage. I wonder if maybe bringing the cardigan a little closer to the center would help you feel less exposed.

I can't wait to see the demilitarized jacket. I agree that as it was, it didn't appear to be quite you, or at least not quite the style you've been showing here.

Wow, what a wonderful process of translating your nature inspiration! Those are amazing colors for you and your outfit is as cute as can be! For the top--it depends, I would say, on where you're wearing it. I personally wouldn't wear it to work, at least not my work. But out and about in Texas or California--quite fine!

This is actually my Wed wiw! (Too busy yesterday to do a post.) On my Tues walk, I was in awe of the beauty of the silverly crepe myrtles among the almost sage-y green of the woods I was in. I also loved the colours in the lichen growing on tree bark. So the next day I decided to dress inspired by them! I only have one top anywhere near a silvery green colour: this jade tank with lace overlay. I adore the delicate beauty of this top, but it's fairly low cut, and I can't raise the sleeves, because then the bustline would obviously hit in the wrong spot. So I added a little grey scarf to feel more covered up (I spent a couple of years looking for a small grey silk square scarf; I finally found one two or three months ago and have reached for it so often since then). Luckily, the print is nature themed! I then pulled out this wool skirt, which is a very subtle mix of greys, browns, and even greens, much like bark. When I thrifted it a year and a half ago, it fit in the waist, but at that time I was on (medically prescribed) steroids which had thickened my midsection. My body is finally recovering from the last round, so now the skirt is a tiny bit too wide and blocky. Until I get the chance to take it in, that means a belt to the rescue! I picked a silver one to keep with my inspiration. And finally I needed a cardigan and tights for warmth: this grey cardigan is delicate and has subtle colour gradations, so it seemed like the ideal choice, and I just added my grey tights to stick with the theme. Between the belt, the lacey top, and the silk scarf, it seemed like I had enough accessories already so I just added my little silver snake ring and called it a day. I felt wonderful in this outfit and colours!

For errand running, I decided to wear my utility jacket, that I thrifted several months ago inspired by Angie's blog post about them (and had to wait to wear since it was insanely hot). I love how this one is more of a dark sage green than warm olive tone, that it has pleated pockets, and an internal cord to cinch up the waist. However, I felt a bit off wearing it, and once I saw the photos I realised why: the buttons & the epaulets make it seem more military than field scientist. So last night I replaced the buttons and removed the epaulets; I think it's much more me now! I'll have to wear it again soon so I can show you photos. For the first time since the weather's gotten cool there was no rain forecast, so I could wear my grey faux suede boots. These are a much more yellow grey than most of the greys I wear, and looking at the photos I think I should've gone with my dusty brown mid calf lace up boots instead. But oh well! They were comfy at least.

I quite enjoyed building an outfit around a specific inspiration, and I think I want to try copycatting a la Angie's recent post next! As always, all comments/suggestions/etc. welcome. Do let me know if the top is just too low cut for even a scarf to save it (eta: for casual wear, not work attire)! And what you think about the jacket fit: it's actually a size 10, but between my broad shoulders, the waist cinch cord, and my penchant for things a bit oversized, I think it's alright. Not positive though.
