Lisa, despite being far to the north, the western half of our state has a very mind climate: overcast and cold (but rarely freezing or snowing) in winter; very brief but lovely, warm (rarely over 80 degrees) summers; generally overcast, cool, and slightly drizzly most of the year.

I'm surprised the snow is a big issue for Seattle, just goes to show I have horrible sense of geography! You are looking fab in the snow. We just got a nice 4-6 inches today.

Kari, I'm glad you're all right after your fall! Yikes.

Those look like perfectly cozy outfits to me. I was planning on wearing a skirt with boots to work this week, but ended up staying home due to illness and then everything just shut down around town, schools, etc.

My husband is making fun of me because I haven't left our house since last week.

Those snowmen photos are cute!!

Great snow outfits and boots! I think I would be in tights and boots for work too or have to do the shoe change. We got a little snow (mostly ice yuck) last night. Nothing as pretty as yours, but I'm not complaining since around here they are crippled by the mention of snow. Thanks for sharing the photos and glad you were ultimately ok after the fall, that can be very scary and why I fear ice more than tons of snow.

Jane, I'm glad that I'm not the only one too. I know a lot of people might think it's silly to be commuting in a dress in snow, but I stayed plenty warm. Also, those rain boots, while stable, are a bit too small for my calves and I don't think I would be able to get my skinny jeans into them, whereas they work fine with thick tights.

Rachylou, I'm just using plain, thin cotton socks from Costco over wool tights. Not very warm but I've noticed that my feet stay quite toasty once I've walked a block or two. I've heard that Smartwool socks are great when you need true warmth, though.

Aida, they are actually just rain boots but have quite a bit of traction at the bottom - I snapped them up at DSW a couple years ago.
I loved the fun snowmen next to me - I especially loved the one at the far right, which was in front of the local firehouse.

I am doing okay after the fall. I actually twisted my left wrist quite badly and was a little worried on Monday that it might be sprained, but I kept it braced (I still have wrist supports from when I was having a lot of wrist pain a couple years ago) and by Thursday it was fine. Monday was the iciest day on the driveway for sure!

MNsara, we do usually get snow a couple of times a year (as does Portland) but not in great quantities. Usually when it snows, in the area I live in, we get a dusting, maybe as much as an inch. This time, I think we had about 7 inches or so where I live, and other areas further to the north and south of me had well over a foot (like Olympia, where Diane lives.) It was actually kind of fun, in spite of the inconvenience, to really be submerged in winter weather for a while. However, the ice building up on trees really wreaked havoc - weak trees and branches fell, causing a lot of damage and power outages. (Some of my friends have been without power for more than a day.)

Wow, Suz, that sounds immensely unusual! We don't get lightning here very often either.

Enginemom, I wish I didn't have to go in to work either. My boyfriend B's office was closed most of the week; unfortunately since I work at the global headquarters for our company, we really don't get snow days - the office remains open unless something extremely catastrophic occurs that would damage the actual building. I tried to work from home on Monday but wasn't able to access most of the resources I needed to be productive. I'm glad that you were able to stay home!

Needless to say I have not gone anywhere. Fortunately I work from home and don't have to.

Great outfits, Kari. I actually love the rain boots! When the weather gets like this, it's time to bring out the sense of humour (which I know you have in abundance) and these boots signal exactly that!

Cute snow pics, too!

Last night we had a blizzard AND lightning here in Kingston, Ontario. I never thought I'd see that combination.

Those of you outside the Pacific Northwest will have to bear with me - another Seattlite posting about the greater-than-normal snowfall this week. I have not been brave enough to take my car down my windy, steep driveway for a week so I've been commuting exclusively on foot. Speaking of footwear, mine has been decidedly un-fab: white rubber snow boots with an elaborate black floral print, though sometimes I've slipped into black leather ballet flats at work.

On Monday I stayed home after slipping and falling trying to walk down my driveway, and Tuesday I didn't have time to take a pic, but the photos in #1 are pretty representative of what I've been wearing to work: sweater dress, thick tights, boots, scarf, wool hat.

It's been actually kind of fun to commute exclusively on foot, in spite of the challenges I had today in trudging through up to 6 inches of slush. I've been snapping photos of my city with my iPhone left and right (#2), including photos of cute dsnowmen (#3.) in spite of the hassle it's been kind of magical.
