Asingh, thank you and I wore these red pointy beauties again today and wish I could replace them at J. Crew if they had them!

Caro, I love being inspired by YLF forum members; thank you! :)

Beth Ann, your color analysis is one of the best I've ever read and I really learned a lot from your post. I can't thank you enough for taking the time to share your wisdom. It all makes sense and I hope I can make it work in my life as you have done so well. You've really inspired me to look at my closet with a new pair of eyes. :)

crutcher, keep making nonsense, because I love it and your online smiles, as well. :)

rachylou, sometimes I think we're sisters from another mother, because I so relate to you! I love what you say, and as for button-down wearing tips, I just tried something new today at Zara and bought an oversized, boxy, white blouse/shirt (depends on how you look at it!) and for this one, I plan to button it up right up to the neck. Other times, I let one or two buttons fly, but I'm not generally loosey-goosey, unbuttoning too many buttons. At the moment, I'm into oversized and my earlier Brooks Brothers are feeling way too tight on me. ^_^

Vicki: You have a a warm, vibrant presence that allows you to many different colors beautifully. It's not just an issue of coloring or skin tone -- it's personality, too. Generous spirits do well with generous color! Even so, as a color girl I sometimes desire a bit of a calm restraint -- a peacefulness --- in my clothing. I also feel a need for a focused approach to color and style which allows my clothing to work better in ensemble (rather than lots of outfits) and keeps the size of my closet manageable.

I find it works best to work with 2 or 3 main colors that are surging in the stores. Cobalt is the biggest color in my wardrobe right now, with secondary colors or aqua/turquoise in warm seasons, darkening to more teal for winter, and hot pink to raspberry in winter, darkening to dark red and deepest purple in winter. Over a few seasons, I'll notice myself moving out of a color and transitioning into another, as fashion changes.

Sapphire (between cobalt and ink) and deep, blue purple have always made my features pop more than any other colors. They are very dramatic, of course, but I always look to have a bit of them in my wardrobe. Over time, as my coloring changes, this could change, I'm sure. Most yellows and oranges, as well as warm browns and greens, are horrifying against my skin, hair and eyes. I enjoy them on others and, when they're trending, I remember that "the butt doesn't have a season." This means that I will wear khaki and olive on my lower half. I'm learning to love the earthy "grounding" that comes to my jewel/floral tones when paired with olive and grey, and to explore tonal combinations across the light/dark specturm (aqua with teal, for example).

I bet, if you look in your closet -- your already have a dominant color story and a couple of "supporting" colors. Focusing on these, and just incorporating outlying colors as wildcards for fun, might give you the editing you desire.

Oh --- and, btw, you look elegant and AWESOME!

So happy you liked the orchid color on me and isn’t it great to get inspiration from both YLF and nature! I really appreciate your feedback and experience on color for your wardrobe and thanks for your expertise.

Marley, hello online, and, YES, we need a visual meeting SOON, as I’m flying off the cuff when it comes to color. I’ll channel Audrey any day.

Windchime, orchid is THE color, isn’t it, rather than fuchsia, because there is a difference. Happy you liked the way I wore my shirt.

Shannon, thank you, and it’s always fun to wear inspirations from ladies on the forum. You may be next.

Fathenry, I appreciate your comments and these colors felt good with each outfit.

Shevia, I admire your style so much and I’ve been wearing these flared jeans over and over again, because they’re so comfortable.

Suz, you’ve been, and continue to be, an inspiration and there’s no doubt I’ll be copying you again. Hey, I’m a proud member of Team Copycat. That is so ridiculously funny that you had the orchid shirt ready to donate, and, I AGREE wholeheartedly that the color is something special. It’s hard to describe, because the color is berry, berry rich, but also toned down in a way not to be screaming and shouting and wearing the person. So, if you ever get a lead on something close, please keep me in the orchid loop. ☺

Sarah, thank you for your sweet and wonderful comments; I’m glad you liked the black one, because I did, too, and that’s hard for me to say, since I don’t wear a lot of black. Loved your comments on “that feeling” when you look into your “closet and reach for or ignore certain colors.” This is such wise and useful information and your sweet spot, a perfect description.

Lucy, you explained your color world so beautifully and it’s the way I’d like to go. You’re enjoying the worlds of neutrals and bolds.

T, thanks for the white denim love. I bought these Hudson jeans last year and while they flare is wider than I’m used to wearing (I’m generally into skinnies and thinner silhouettes), these were a nice change.

Lyn, what a great assessment you shared. Thank you so much and it really helped as you explained how you chose your neutrals and then your accents and developed the range of colors to move through the seasons. Outstanding!

Crutcher, you make me smile and are good therapy for me. I don’t know “why” I’m limiting my colors, but I think it’s more that I was all over the map with them and I would buy things out of interest rather than what really worked “on” me. So, there were a few mistakes in my closet. Now, about that pretty orchid: Thank you! The orchids are bought at a deep discount at Trader Joe’s and the best way to water them, Orchid Mom, so you don’t hurt Ms. Orchid, is to water them once a week consistently, and that’s it. They’ll last a very long time and are so beautiful to give your home a “pop of color.” Also, when you buy an orchid, some are curved, which can be very pretty visually and also look for two stems, so you double your bloom pleasure. *Smile*

Deborah, you are amazing in your style and I love being inspired from all corners of the world and the color wheel. I’ll take another helping of Audrey. Thank you.

Ceit, you make me feel so good that I was able to take inspiration from the two who inspired me here and make them my own. I’m doing the happy dance.

Jackie, thank you and I’m glad you enjoyed how I turned the top around. Now, if I could only do a plié, I may actually look like a ballerina. Guess I’ll just have to dress like one.

Angie, thank you always, and in every way, for your wisdom! Knowing that you like this shade of fuchsia on me gives me the orchid light to use this as an accent color. Color me ecstatic!

Claire, you have seen these white workhorses (two legs!) IRL, and, yes, they are a summer staple. I think the J. Crew sweater, was lighter and more “neon” perhaps. This color is a bit deeper. I’ll show you next time. So happy you like the chic black and red outfit. I’ve been wearing these J. Crew shoes so much, the tips are getting a bit banged up. Grrr. What would Audrey think? I think a color analysis may be a great idea. Would love to have you there.

N-Marie, you’re inspiration for me, because I didn’t realize the orchid shirt was still available online at BR. I agree, it is a bit tight in the bust area, but if it’s the same color, it’s great. I think I’ll take a look and consider sizing up if it’s similar to what I have.

Neel, I’ll take being called a style diva by you any day. Thanks so much!

Fantastic copies of two our style divas by another style diva :). I think you look gorgeous in both colors and neutrals. The pop of red in the shoes and the clever reversed tee really make the outfit a 10/10! And outfit 1 is obviously a perfection!

Vicki, you look beautiful and I will never, ever get tired of seeing you in those perfect white jeans. They have been a real workhorse for you this summer, haven't they? That's a great "inspired by Suz" outfit that you put together. Is that orchid shirt a bit more bright than the J. Crew sweater that you returned? The shirt looks really good on you, and I remember feeling a bit meh about the J. Crew sweater. I wonder why that is?

The "Deborah inspired" outfit is so sleek and sophisticated. How brilliant was it to turn your Burberry T around backwards? I love the plaid cuffs. So chic, and there are those red pointy toed flats that I love so much.

Getting a personal color analysis might be a good idea for you. It would give you a professional opinion about what your best colors are, and that might put to rest some of the questions you've had. I only wish there was a way I could go with you to the appointment. It would be so interesting to watch. :)

Vicki, you look just stunning in both outfits. I am flattered and a little awestruck to think I may have been a source of inspiration:). You have such an innate sense of style and you work colours and black with the same amount of panache. I love the black outfit and it is so Audrey! I would love to copy this myself.

You, my dear, are LA cool...I just love the way you wear...The colors are a boost but I am not sure I understand why you are limiting your colors?...I think you are just spot on with the neutrals and a burst of color when you feel the need...I am not the one to advise as I prefer the neutrals...
(Off the subject...your orchid plant is TDF...I just received one and I am the nervous first time Mom trying to not do anything to hurt Ms.Orchid...If you have any tips or a page where I might find some good tips...I would appreciate your input..smile...)

Vicky, you look so radiant in that Suz alike (radiant:-)) orchid and that Debs alike all blacks (yes, radiant, too:-)) with a pop of red!

Now about narrowing down your accents, or pops of colors...It occured me that preYLF I was at the other edge of the line, when all was neutral and even lack of much contrast in my wardrobe, so I craved colors and even new neutrals(black and whites). But it did take me time, to get a cohesive appearance day by day. It's so hard when you do only have one piece of a color, and so much easier when you have a true capsule of it. I think Ramya and E have been thinking alike aiming to buy several pieces in that same shade, for making it work.

Now, I think you do have your favourite colors, and others, that are still great, but not that gorgeous. I will decide on my neutrals first, and then narrow down the accents to those which make your heart sing and see if I have a true capsule out of them. Then I will keep these capsules updated. That's all.

For me it was the coral first. As it was going with all my neutrals, including my old mushy taupes and greys, and worked accross all my seasons (very important!). I now have all kind of clothing items and accessories in the same shade of (bit fadded or even bright) coral for summer, and some burned oranges for winter. It was all good for years, but now, I start craving about those new, deep reds:-)...so will see how it evolves.

My second love of me was citron-still building that capsule at the moment for making it work accross different seasons, which is key to me, as I have all of them(and more:-)).

Now, I do have a color I love, but had some troubles with, the BLUES. I love and have navies(but that's a neutral, yes?) and I look good in shades of bright blues (turquoise, mid blues) in summer. Still, I feel like the cobalt wears me, which is sad, as it would be the shade for colder weathers-so that experience went all wrong to me.

And the GREENS. Deep(forest, jade) greens do look good on me for fall and winter, but I cannot bare on me the summery versions of it(mint, or emerald). So what did I do? I just mixed them up all together and called them my blue-green capsule, blues for summer, greens for winter:-). I really do have only a few items in this one but still find it usefull when crave variety.

I love the colors in outfit #1. It looks so fresh & lovely. I wish I would find a pair of white denim quickly. I have been on the hunt for months, but all I can find is jeggings here
Red accessories are my weak point, and I think you look smashing in #4.

Oh my gosh! Two inspiring ladies and then your own version, which are just as inspiring! The fushia look is gorgeous, and one of my favourite shades too. But the black took my breath away! YLF.
I have a lot of black, grey and navy clothes, which I find allow me the versatility to have a few pops of colour, mainly in shirts, though I have two bright blazers as well. I tend to go with cobalt, fushia, purple, red and orange. I never even try to mix them, just wear them with neutrals, and this seems to allow me to have the best of both worlds.

I have enjoyed every outfit that I have seen you post, and I think you look sophisticated and beautiful in the first outfit. The color is really great on you! And then I scrolled over to the black outfit and... WOW!! I am so blown away by the simplicity and ease of this on you. It is just so wonderful. I am SO impressed!

I don't have a whole lot of wisdom for you in the color department. I tend to rely on instinct. I do listen to what I hear from others - I take note when someone compliments me, but what I rely on is that feeling I get when I look into my closet and reach for or ignore certain colors. For instance, I do get compliments on colors such as cobalt and fuschia, but I will pass them by every single time. The sweet spot for my color choices is where the flattery and my heart instersect.

Vicki!! You are absolutely stunning no matter what colour (or neutral) you wear. What a delight to see you post. And I am beyond flattered (blushing!!) to have been an inspiration.

You look radiant in that radiant orchid, berry, fuchsia, or whatever the heck it is. And it sounds as if it was just as striking in real life. You are making me want to turn around and copy YOU all over again, LOL. I even have the same MK belt I could use! (I think I had a different leopard belt in the original pic, not sure.)

Here is something funny. Do you know that I had consigned my own orchid shirt to the donate bag not long ago because it is starting to feel too fitted with all the fluid fits now? But in the end I just could not part with it -- the colour is too special. I can only let it go when I find another top in the same shade. So we are even twins in that.

I also love your all black with a hint of red. Isn't that the most elegant neckline? Genius on you.

Thank you so much for honouring me with your imitation. :)

As for narrowing your colours -- I honestly don't know what to say. Some people have had luck by doing the drapings -- Caro in Oz recently had hers done and felt good about the result, and I believe Deb has done it, also. I did, too, before YLF, but didn't really learn much I didn't already know. However I did get reminded of a range of tones I'd been forgetting about -- including this kind of purply pink, as a matter of fact! :) And it definitely confirmed me in my love of blues.

And you look equally wonderful in the black outfit, Shades of Deb. Rolling the sleeves gives nice structure, and you are brilliant to think of turning the shirt around for a flattering neckline.

I may not live close to these two lovely YLF'ers and I’m not even close to their countries, but I certainly enjoy shopping my closet and dressing to inspiration, when it strikes, as it did this week.

When I first joined YLF, I was buying a kaleidoscope of colors, and not being very selective with what truly worked for me. I was a bit like a child in a candy store, and the colorful candy I was buying wasn’t necessarily very good for me (think M&M's in orange, green and the wrong blue!). Watching others here has been so helpful and I am beginning to find my way.

What I do know is that when I wear neutrals for too many days, I crave a burst of color and that’s what I wanted for my first outfit here (hello fuchsia!). It also addresses a text discussion Marley and I had on our capsule of colors, from neutrals to accents to pops of color and how similar these may be from season to season. Marley has really done a great job of narrowing hers down and that’s a definite style goal for me.

#1-2 (with inspiration from nature) and #3 (Suz) Suz-inspired, this is a close copy of one of Suz’s and I don’t have the original link, only a photo, so here's my version: Hudson white flared jeans, Michael Kors reversible snakeskin belt, Banana Republic fuchsia blouse (sadly, I bought a size too small as my size wasn’t available, so this will need to be replaced when I can find the perfect color. I like this, because it’s bright, but a muted bright, if that makes sense), Zara cream and navy boatneck Breton tee, Vince Camuto Eliana bootie, Kate Spade grey and black tote. Happiness factor was high with this outfit (thank you, Suz) and when I bought some Dior nail polish at Nordstrom, the SA gave a me a compliment that really wowed me and I walked out of there a little taller than my 5’3” frame appears. ☺

#4-6 and #7 (Deborah) Deborah-inspired, generally, I don’t wear too much black or all black, but then I began thinking of a three-quarter sleeve tee that I asked my mother to pick up for me at Nordstrom Rack (out of the area) and I wanted to wear it right away (Team Wear). Deborah wears black so beautifully (thank you, Deborah) and the universe aligned even more when I read a snippet about actress “Kate Hudson in black jeans and top with lipstick red heels.” The article went on to say “She looked so polished yet cool. She was like the ultimate L. A. girl dressed that way.” Now, I’m not L. A. cool, but I do like to look polished. I also don’t wear high heels and I don’t own a pair of red heels. So, adjustments were in order. But, the article “For denim, a return to the dark side,” and “Black jeans are definitely in style — for men and women here: http://www.latimes.com/fashion.....story.html made me realize that black denim is still very relevant for the coming season.

I paired my J. Brand black skinnies with my Burberry tee and J. Crew pointy-toed red flats. The tee is scoop-necked, something that doesn’t work well with my long neck. I turned it around and wore the bateau-style neckline of the back, in front. The muted logo at the hemline was in the back, but I liked that for its quirky factor. This, too, was a comfortable outfit and I liked the tiny bit of red in the plaid cuffs that matched the flats. Deborah has her signature red lipstick and I have my red flats!

Fine-tuning my colors is still a work in progress, and I would love some help in this area, either with suggestions to stretch from my neutrals of white, cream, navy, blue, camel, taupe and black (with a wide assortment of the aforementioned and interspersed kaleidoscope of colors). I also have quite a few prints in the form of shirts. If you found a way that helped you with defining your color choices, I’d love to know more. Thank you for looking and also for your help. ^_^
