Thank you! Ikebana is a fun hobby-- I'm still a beginner. People create some really beautiful arrangements and they are much more minimal than typical American flower ones.</p> <p>A couple people suggested tucking my top into my underwear (<b>Roberta</b> and <b>Zaeobi</b>, which is a good tip and a quick try-on suggests it may help a lot.</p> <p><b>Jenni NZ--</b> Yes, if the underwear trick doesn't work, I think I will need to remember to give the shirt a tug after each toilet visit.&nbsp;</p> <p><b>Zaeobi--&nbsp;</b>I actually have a Beltaway, probably from when I used to follow the Wardrobe Oxygen blog 10+ years ago. I gave it a try with this outfit earlier. Unfortunately, the back of this top is super long and so I couldn't make it work (the top has a split hem, longer in the back than in the front). But I've never used my Beltaway like this and this is a tip that I really like and I think it will work with some of my other tops, so thanks!</p> <p><b>Sisi</b>-- Nice idea to swap out the purse. It's funny because I was pretty pleased with myself for switching out my purse. I have two purses that get regular use and I am bored of both of those (one is a black fanny pack that I wear diagonally across my chest, the other is gray and more utilitarian than stylish). Over the weekend, I grouped my wardrobe items via the Allison Bornstein book <i>Wear it Well</i> method: I took out all the clothing I never wear. I then further separated those items into three categories: 1) stuff to get rid of, 2) stuff I want to keep but don't want to wear right now, 3) and stuff I'm not sure how to wear. I spent some time experimenting with outfits for items in that third category.</p> <p>This top was an item I wasn't sure how to wear. I don't typically tuck in my tops as I find it fussy and difficult with my short torso and hips. But I was inspired by the outfit I posted that I wore on the 4th and although I didn't overlap any single item from that outfit, this one does follow the same formula. A swingy skirt, a tucked in top (this one in a bright color), a belt, and other accessories.</p> <p>I feel great! My only regret is that the bottom hem of the top bunches up under the skirt and because the skirt fabric is so thin, you can see a lump when that happens.</p> <p>I wore the outfit to my Ikebana club (the art of Japanese flower arranging) and then to my volunteer gig watering indoor plants at the Botanical gardens. I'm required to wear closed toe shoes for that, so that's why I'm wearing sneakers although I switched to sparkly sandals after that was through, which are more appropriate for today's weather.</p> <p>Bonus photos are the arrangements I made today at Ikebana club.</p> <p> </p>
