Hi again Helen --

I think the purple is pretty close, really; photos definitely tend to flatten us out. Thanks, 2-D!

Plus the low contrast between skirt and legs does a great job of keeping you away from 1:1 territory.

I might try to treat your skirt like the bottom half of a dress. Where is your preferred waist with a dress?

Maybe a knit top with less texture or a blouse plus a belt if you wear them at the waist, then a cosy open sweater over if you need that? I find I can get away with longer open cardigans or jackets because they move when I do and create a less boxy feel. At least in 3-D life!

I think you are so right, Vix. Something about proportions, this is 1:1. I know I don't like my long sweater over it, although it is comfy and stylish, the total look ends up frumpy.

Hi Helen --

What a gorgeous shade of green and a beautiful shape on you!

You realize we non-knitters think that's an anything-but-simple work, right? Sorry about the shoulder woes.

The skirt shape creates lots of gentle curves, so I think the boxiness you mentioned might be due to the proportions of the sweater. [As much as I too love the purple/green combination.]

Maybe play around a bit with shorter and longer tops (or shorter with a longer cardigan or jacket worn over) and see what happens? Either way, enjoy!

The pleats just appear to be pleats. I just added more purls to the rounds once in a while. I'll give you some 'making of' pictures.
Picture 1: waist
picture 2: you can see the first place where I added new stitches to each section indicated by the red little marker. In picture 3 you can get an idea of how crowded the circular needles became, this is just before the 3rd addition of stitches. I didn't take a picture after that, but in the end I had many more stitches.

Helene, what a gorgeous skirt! I made a similar one a couple of years back but unfortunately it's a bit too short. I usually have to layer something under it which limits its use. So good call on the length!

That is amazing! You say you got that pleat effect with just knits and pearls? (Why o' why can't I finish a knitting project?!) The color is just beautiful, perfect for right now.

That is simply amazing! It does look pleated. Great color that is works as a neutral but is pretty also. I am just bowled over that you could do that.

Thank you all for the compliments! When I look at the picture I feel a little boxy, but I guess that is the nature of the fabric. And I just came home from grocery shopping.
It is much easier than it looks, it is not pleated, but a clever combination of (a lot of!) purl and knit stiches. I found the pattern through Raverlry.

WAIT A MINUTE HERE! You hand knit that tissue-fine intricate skirt? NO WAY! With accordion pleats? Are you serious? That's nothing short of incredible. (No wonder your shoulder nearly wound up in a sling!)

Ahem. Sorry for all the shouting. I love your outfit and the matching scarf too. It looks like you've been shopping in a very expensive boutique.

Remember my question regarding skirt length?
http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....t-length-3
I have had shoulder problems so I couldn't knit for a while. When the pain went away, I started knitting again, careful not to do too much at a time. Today I had the chance to take a picture in day light to show you the result. I had some left over yarn and I made that into the scarf! I rather like the combination with the purple cardigan.
