I think we share some of the same flattery concerns, but I've got to say I absolutely love #3 on you, and #4 is a close second. I've figured out how to make skinnier jeans and pants work for me, but it's really hard to beat boot cuts for pure flattery. I'm just glad we have so many options now that look current!

You've distilled your evolving preferences really nicely. Doesn't that feel good?

Oh, and those blue/green booties are great!

Oh my...the green booties and the red oxfords are AMAZING! I love fabulous footwear and these are right up there.

I think you're very much on track with your style and it's funny how after experimentation we seem to loop back to where we were in the first place - just with more updated pieces.

It's great to see you in wider pants. They are actually trending so rock on. Loving #4.

I love #3, and find it extremely flatting. The most flattering of the lot, although #4 is high on the list too. You look very good with an untucked top.

I find baby bootcuts a little odd in general. Their width is neither here nor there. Whenever a client tries them on - we take them off and go for something wider or straighter at the hems. The flare doesn't fall that well over shoes. It's tricky.

You know I bat for Team Suits. Wear them and enjoy them if they are your cup of tea.

Hi Dianthus ~

Wow! I relate to so many of your observations! I share your love of wide-legs over skinnies, your pattern preferences, your love of neutrals, clean lines and simple shapes. I have tried other things, but like you, I always come back to these :)

You look great in these pics - especially #3 and #4. And I like the dress in #1 very much, too, I would just try a darker shoe or bootie, as already suggested by other wise ladies here.

I hope you post more WIWs - these are inspiring me!

Dianthus...agree on you take on proportions. I have resisted /still resist the drop waist top worn with baggy low riding pants because I feel too short in it without wearing heels but who wants to wear heels all the time!

I know when I wear those outfits, I am choosing between conventional flattery and looking current.

Ps. I stopped shopping for 11 months because I gain two clothing sizes last year. So I (along with many women here --see lisap's thread in off topic) commiserate with you.

Thanks Shedev. I see my thighs when I look at bootcuts and skinnies which is probably why I love the wider legs - than and the swish and movement.

Lisa, I felt fab in #1 until I looked at the pics. Just to clarify, when I wore this it was close to 30C so the sandals. The oxfords are Splendid Orlando and I ordered them online and it took a while for them to make it to Canada. I did try the semi tuck with the last shirt but it seemed too long in the back to drape properly. I will try again.

Aida, thank you. I love the watch. It is a bit chunky which I love and I have been wearing it quite a bit. It reminded me of my love for chunky watches and I've been wearing one almost every day.

Thanks BJ. I may give the bootcuts another chance and try them with a pair of red patent knee boots they will feet over.

Suz, I will add the booties here. I am usually an 8.5 but they didn't have them in green so I got the 9. They are a touch loose but work with socks and are VERY comfy. Nice cushioning so I would recommend them but I have lower volume feet (flat).

Thanks AG. You inspired me with your oil slick oxfords. I believe that was how I found the red patents.

Shevia/Carla, thanks. I am going to rework the dress. It has nice detail and is very nicely made and fits.

Interesting on the proportions. I find that the higher waist and tucked top makes the legs look longer when I am wearing flats and to my eye that is slimming. perhaps I am too weight focused to see things clearly but I have always loved tucked shirts. Perhaps I need to reserve that look for a mid-rise pant.

Oh yes, I ordered another pair of oxfords yesterday. they are a wingtip style in distressed pewter. Can't wait to get them.

You have great shoes!!!! Seriously, those green booties are so fab. Can you add the link again, please? I remember your posting it before and I was very tempted. Now I'm even more tempted. I also adore those Lord and Taylor pants and could kick myself for not trying harder to track them down last year. (They didn't have my size at our Bay).

Love the new red oxfords, too!

And every one of these outfits is great. Agree with Lisa about #1. You are being tough on yourself. Mind you, maybe it didn't feel comfortable, which is another issue. But if the comfort level was good, it's a good outfit!

I agree with Lisa about the proportion issue, also. I like the longer top better than the tucked one in #5. But I also really like both pullovers in 3 and 4 in terms of proportion and fit. (And I know they are a completely different size).

i am nodding my head at your comment "i like suits...don't care if they aren't "in" right now." i also LOVE pant suits and am in the market for one with wide floopy legs.

on to your outfits...love #1 esp with the burgundy jacket. still mulling the nude sandals. aida had a great idea (she's full of them!) to try with the green booties--which are so cool with the stingray textured back. #2 is cute--i do love plaid bottoms and these fit you so well. the bootcuts in #4 work so well because of the looseness. in #7/8, the bootcuts work here too, in a more structured way. i wonder if an almond toe rather than a round toe would make you like the jeans more?

Well wide leg pants are certainly wonderfully dramatic and well suited to you, so it doesn't surprise me that you enjoy wearing them. Have you tried the dress in #1 with the new green booties (which look really cool btw)? Totally love #3 on you, you look cozy and chic and tall. #4 is a look I definitely associate with your style, and I adore the light footwear with that one. #5 has such an impish, boyish charm to it. So fun! #7/8 looks good too, though I do feel the jeans are a bit short if they are bootcuts. The plaid shirt looks great, though! I'm tickled that you got the Fossil watch, how are you liking it? It's heavy and I love that about it ^^

Cheryl - first off, those red oxfords are SO great! Where are they from ? I need to check these out myself. I also love the green/blue boots - those are really cool, especially with the plaid pants. You have some really interesting footwear, and it adds such a touch to your outfits.

I don't understand why you don't like outfit #1 - in fact I quite like it, and think all it needs are some dark shoes or booties? It's such a lovely classic look, and the dress fits you well. Add some funky higher heels in black, and away you go! I also have to say I like the black flared leg pants in 7 and 8. What happens if you semi-tuck the shirt into the pants a bit? My eye favours the proportion of a longer top on you - as opposed to the higher waisted pant in 5. Just pure observation from a photograph though :)

I get my best thinking done while driving too, btw .

I have been doing a lot of thinking about my style and where I want to go with it. I posted about this a while back and received some great feedback including a link to a questionnaire from Suz.

I did a bit of thinking about what I like and what I don't think works for me and like many other YLFers, feel I have gone full circle.

A few of the observations/conclusions I have come to so far:

I much prefer a wider leg pant to a skinny pant and think it is much more flattering on my body. I also like a straight leg but not as much as the wide ones. I also like the feel of the movement of the pant leg.

I also think a slightly higher rise works better but I could be wrong on this one. Opinions are welcome on the proportions.

I like suits. I bought one a few weeks ago but haven't worn it yet and don't think I care if they aren't "in" right now. I especially like pant suits

I love plaid, stripes and polka dots more than other patterns. I don't mix patterns but like to mix a pattern with texture.

I will wear the skinnies and ponte but likely only tucked in taller boots to add a bit of volume at the bottom for balance.

I like neutrals and a few patterns but like to only have one color in many outfits. I think I will stick to my favorites of blue/green/fuchsia.

I like clean lines and simple shapes.

I like a few accessories. They can be a bit bolder if there is only one or two. I am also back to wearing my watches including the new fossil (Aida copy). I think silver and platinum look better on my skin but still like the fossil and will wear it.

I got the red oxfords yesterday and love them. In about 2002 I wanted a similar style shoe and wasn't able to find them in women's so I bought a good quality pair of men's black oxfords in the smallest size they came in (7) and wore them to death over the next two years.

Outfits
#1 not my best
black louben dress (I have the skirt and jacket too)
danier jacket
Purple shell necklace

#2, 3
New earth green booties. I found them for Sveta but bought them for me.
Lord and Taylor pants (Shannon twin)
Black gap merino t-neck (size M - important later)

#4
Gap merino wool sweater (size XL)
silk scarf
Jones modern fit pant
born booties

#5/6
Nygard pant from a few years ago
white cotton shirt with silver collar points and buttons
Splendid red patent oxfords (got them yesterday and couldn't wait to wear)

#7/8
gap plaid shirt (love the colors)
black stretch boot cut jeans - these may have been a mistake. Tony and the sales assistant loved them but I didn't so should have left them behind.

That is all. Comments and suggestions are welcome. I may add a few more observations later. I think of them as I drive but never remember when I type. LOL
