I'm with Angie on the pants -- they look like a good fit to me. If the puffiness around your thighs is all in the pants, perhaps they need some altering? Maybe they need to be taken in a bit right there on the sides? That said, agree with everyone that untucking may make all the difference here.

And I'm with Claire on the idea of a belt!! You have a figure made for belts!! Before chucking that twinset, can you try untucking, and adding a belt to define your teeny tiny waist? I have this hunch.........

Hi Thistle! I just want to give you a great big hug! Great advice here, maybe keep the twinset around but wear the pieces separately? The scarf looks wonderful and I love your defined waist. Do you like belts? They would look smashing on you.

I usually get my GV at Kohls.com (or less frequently, in store) for around $25-$35. These are the ones I tend to buy the most of - http://www.kohls.com/kohlsStor.....s+Plus.jsp They say 'tapered leg' on the tag, but are actually a 'straight leg' They carry them at Sears, JCP I think, and others, as well. One thing I really like about her line is that they *tend to* run the same in sizing cross the names, at least in the Amanda, Mona and her great ponte pants lines so once you know what you usually wear in her things you can safely order them online, which normally has a far better selection of colors I wear a 16W and have a 40 inch waist and 49 inch hip, for comparison sake....good luck!

Hi Thistle great to see another Pretty Pear posting. I agree with the others the pants are fine and will look fab with a different pair of shoes even a slight heel will help. Untucking your top will be an improvement but as Angie says a longer floatier top would be even better. I find wide leg & bootcut pants flattering and empire line tops. The scarf is spot on to add interest to your top half. I find necklaces & big ear rings also help create interest on the top half. Brighter colors work well on top with darker colours on the bottom.

Congrats on your first WIW! It is hard at first, but the feedback is so useful. Have you tried wedges? I have several pair of aerosole wedges that give me a little heel but the wedge makes them wearable. I also bought my first pair of animal print flats from aerosole thanks to this forum I agree with the others about untucking the blouse and buttoning the middle part of the cardigan.

Thank you all so much for the feedback!

Biscusitsmom - Where do you usually find Gloria Vanderbuilt? I have heard the name, but sadly, my shopping life is pretty limited with DD.

Zapotee - I can wear low heels, but not much more than that. I try to stick to qualty, comfy shoe makers (Born, etc.) and then I can do a little more of a heel. I agree, I love the look of trousers with heels.

Angie - Thank you for the guidance. I love the idea of animal print shoes! I need to acquire some romantic tops.

Yeah you posted - the first time is the worst:) Everyone here is very helpful & I've found posting pics really sharpens my eye for what I like & don't about an outfit.
I agree try the top untucked or the cardigan partly closed (leave the top & bottom buttons open).

Great to see you post again, Thistle!

I think the trousers are a good fit. It's the twin set that is making them look off, although I like the colour. I vote pass on the twin set and try a romantic top with these bottoms. How about a pair of animal printed shoes to go along with them?

Hi there!
It took me a year to post a WIW and I still cringe. You are so much better than me:) I think the issue is the pants. Trousers are the hardest to get right, It is also very hard to get them to work without some type of a heel. Do you wear heels at all? Even a little one? I also think you should experiment with a wider leg trouser.
Do you wear petite or regular sizing? Perhaps we can direct you to some brands you might want to check out.
Try the twinset untucked and without the scarf, perhaps a necklace can act as a third piece, if you feel you need that finishing item. Sometimes is good to uncover the neck, it helps elongate the figure.
The scarf is really pretty!!!

I totally agree with Sarah. The colors look very pretty and probably are very flattering.

I love shoes and I think they can totally change the look of an outfit. A killer pair of shoes add pizazz to an otherwise basic outfit.

I love the color of the twinset, but agree untucking may work better for you...I have a lot of the same issues with pants as you, and Ive found that those pants that have a strong crease-line usually arent as flattering as those without them, also the pocket placement is super important (front as well as back) cuz those 'slant front pockets' do tend to stick out, making the hips look wider.... have you tried any of the Gloria Vanderbilt line of pants? She has some really nice ones, in different fabrications, from size 4-24 I love a lot of her things and they are priced very reasonably, as well...I really like your scarf too! Im trying to wear more scarves also Congrats on your photo post! I still havent done my first, lol

Congrats on posting. Everyone here is supportive, I find even by posting what I am not happy with, I get lots of constructive criticism on how to make it into something I like. It helps to have other eyes looking at it.

I think the trouser cut isn't the kindest to you. You have a lovely defined waist, but the trousers aren't showing that, and are poofing out on your hips. I think untucking the twinset would help too, right now my eye jumps between your waistband and the edge of the cardi. Or even try buttoning a couple buttons just under your bust?

YAY! Welcome to WIWs. This is such a great learning opportunity and it is wonderful to have you aboard!

The paisley in your scarf is right on trend. And these are lovely soft colours that from what I can tell must look nice with your complexion.

It sounds as if you're not happy with the fit of the pants. Has Talbot's been a "go-to" for you? The quality is often nice but sometimes the cuts can be less than wonderful. But it's possible the pants could be altered if the fit bothers you?

I have been meaning to post a WIW photo for some time. Everytime I take one, however, I decide I would really rather not post it.

This is another time, but I need to eventually bite the bullet so I can get the help I need.

Twinset: talbots - a little concerned it looks dated although it is not terribly old.
Scarf - Echo
Pants - Talbots Slim Fit (this was supposed to be my version of more tailored, closer fitting pants, versus most of mine are straight leg). The puffiness around the thighs is all the pants.
Shoes - Wolkies. They really do nothing to help the outfit.

I think my favorite part ofthe outfit is the scarf, and I have just started wearing them based on Angie's advice for pretty pears to do so.
