Isabel, I'm not sure there's much a stylist can do. But you are right, I'll probably hate it so much less in a couple of weeks.

Thank you all for the suggestions, I'm going to investigate and pick up some products and see if they help with the bits I don't like. Y'all are truly fab!

You might be not liking your stylist very much at the moment but maybe you could give them a chance to make things better? Tell them you need tips on how to make it look great on wash and wear days?
You really need to give it two weeks at least, it takes that long to really settle in to a new style.

This may be too boho for you, but a little twist with the front of my hair is how I deal with haircuts I don't like, or transitions in haircuts. It has an added benefit of giving a little wave to the hair when I take it down. That bit of intentional wave can make the rest of my mussy hair look more pulled together.

Another thing I really like is hair powder. There's a ton of different ones on the market right now, but they make my hair look and feel the way it feels the day after a really good trip to the stylist. It just gives a bit more texture and a kind of natural looking hold I've never been able to get with hairsprays and gels.

Finally, for curl enhancing, I've used this inexpensive cream before to great effect. It's not stiff, or globby. A little goes a long way. It just coaxes a bit more uniform curl out of the hair. I've bought it at Target before for under $5. https://www.amazon.com/Demert-.....U88CU?th=1

I'm guessing the shorter layers that wave are springing "up" and creating too much volume above the ears? So, you may have to use a product to weight them down more for humid weather. I use extra jojoba oil on humid days. I rub a drop or two between my hands really well, then smooth it lightly on the trouble spots, pinching hair between my fingers sometimes as I smooth downward, but being careful not to put too much as I don't want an oily look.

I find that my hair works best to wash/condition in the evening and don't "rub" it with the towel at all - then I let it air dry with almost no combing.
I have an extra large tooth comb just to slightly get any tangles out.

It's not always completely dry before bed, but usually it's pretty close.

I apply a small amount of heat protector serum and style with the big curling iron in the morning and after that I do a l little oil as above. I don't really use any other products.

I don't love having to straighten but I do a little with an extra large curling iron (flat irons don't work for me - they seem to leave a "crease" or something - or if I go too far they leave the hair flat). Maybe the next time you go for a cut you could specifically ask for a wave friendly cut - some stylists will even cut it dry (when it's dried naturally) so they can really work with the existing wave. I always cut mine when it's dry as my hair is quite wavy.

I like the wrap (and it works with the outfit!) but I feel your frustration. I also have wavy (ish) hair or at least it is wavy and porous with greater length. I found the flat iron was the best solution and really easy to use. I used what Bonnie referred to but I think you might have to experiment a bit as the type of humidity seems relevant in my experience -- travelling I would sometimes want a different kind of product.

I dried and straightened my hair for years, it's wavy, not quite curly and fairly thick. Yours doesn't look bad in the wrap, but straighteners do make a huge difference in controlling it. Mine stayed pretty straight unless it got wet and it did take some time in the morning. Now I let it curl but that isn't always fool proof either. Good luck!

I understand and empathize with your hair dissatisfaction. I have wavy, undefined frizzy hair. I've tried all sorts of things - unsuccessful until recently. I stopped dyeing my hair about a year ago after 22 years and since my natural hair started to show up I've been struggling with hair products and frizz - and things got worse when I chopped my hair medium-short. I'd been in the "nothing works" situation until recently I finally figured out I was trying to treat problems symptoms instead of treating its causes. When it comes to frizz, what really made all difference was discovering my hair porosity. Turns out most common cause for frizz is high porosity and most anti-frizz products aim to close hair cuticles, but low porosity can also be a cause of frizz and those products won't work if that is the case - they may actually make things worse. Have you tried to diagnose your hair porosity?

Your hair does not look bad at all in the picture! You have already received a lot of good advice, so I have nothing to add (my hair is like yours but at a certain point I stopped fighting against it and just gave up). I just wanted to say: don't hate your haircut! It's beautiful and flattering for you. The iron seems a good solution!

I know every time I come home from the hairdresser, my hair is fabulously soft, gentle waves with perfect highlights. Beautiful!!!

My hair is naturally wavy, but not wavy enough to look good, if that makes sense! Sometimes I blow dry it fully. Other times I let it dry naturally and then run the flat iron over it - it is pretty quick, probably quicker than blow drying I think. I do use a heat protector and often argan oil as well.
If it's any consolation, I really like the wrap on your hair !

My hair is wavy, but if I brush it back flat and let it dry that way, maybe put it in a tiny ponytail or wear a hat or something like the headband you've got, it dries flat... of course, that's a totally RATE way to style your hair, lol.

Jenni, I'm hoping I don't hate it as much when I get my hands on that chi iron. Once it's longer I won't mind the waves, but right now they make me have big blobs right over my ears and it's terrible LOL

I'm going to get my hands on some thermal protector spray and see if the straight iron solves the problem until it's long enough not to make weird blobs on the sides of my head

I had to work today, and I was grumpy because my hair was uncooperative. Hence the dirt on the clothes, and the expression on my face LOL

This haircut is kind of high-maintenance. Like, if I actually want it to look like anything I have to blow dry it straight and I really need a straightening iron (a friend is shipping me her chi iron that she doesn't use anymore, thank heaven for friends, right?) Today the humidity was brutal and I had to work so I bought an inexpensive jersey head wrap and I used it to hide the mess.

Any suggestions for hair goo? I am currently only using an organix moroccan oil smoothing/anitfrizz serum, and need suggestions on what to use when that chi iron arrives. My hair is thick and heavy and tends to get stupid wavy bits in it when it's humid (I don't mind the waves when it's long but they're the worst when my hair is short) I suppose I'm looking for something to help it stay straight on humid days and maybe add a little texture to it once it's straightened.
