They have the patterned waist band. I simply fold the band over on the inside so it can't be seen. Mine were too big so I had my seamstress take in the leg but left the waist band as is and it just sits nicely on the top of my hip. I am considering a second pair that Caro posted Thursday from French Connection that are more a pant than a legging :).
